Download or read book Roles of Government in the Land Use Planning in the Great Plains Classic Reprint written by Herbert Hoover and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Roles of Government in the Land Use Planning in the Great Plains The status of land use legislation was reviewed at the federal and state levels of government. There has been much committee action at the federal level the last few years but few bills have passed and the prospects for l976 have not improved. Although Wyoming enacted a statewide land use bill, l975 saw a shifting away from sweeping land use proposals toward more limited and specific proposals to protect the environment, regulate floodplains, guide development of key facilities and require cities and counties to prepare local land use plans. Activities at the federal level have been toward more inter and intra-departmental coordination of land use planning programs. Major land use problems and current legislation were summarized for the ten Great Plains States. The most often mentioned problems were soil erosion and sedimentation, preservation of prime agricultural land and the subdivision of rural lands. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Land Use Experience in Southern Great Plains Organic fertility and physical structure must both be renewed at appropriate intervals In class IV lands to compensate for the naturally rapid rate of deterioration these soils 'undergo when put in cultivation. Otherwise they will quickly become class VI or even class VII lands. The only means now known for effectively renewing productivity to maintain such lands at a satisfactory level is the use of soil -building crops with rest periods. It is highly important to cease cultivation before the soil structure breaks down to a stage beyond control, so that the sod cover can be regained while the soil is still stable and moisture conditions are favorable. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Four Hundred Million Acres: The Public Lands and Resources The Federal Government has assumed many new responsibilities since Lincoln's time, and will probably assume more in the future when the States and local communities can not alone cure abuse or bear the en tire cost of national programs, but there is an essential principle that should be maintained in these matters. I am convinced that where Federal action is essential then in most cases it should limit its responsibilities to supplement the States and local communities, and that it should not assume the major role or the entire responsibility, in replacement of the States or local government. To do otherwise threatens the whole foundation of local government, which is the very basis of self-government. Book Land Use Planning Under Way Classic Reprint

Download or read book Land Use Planning Under Way Classic Reprint written by U. S. Bureau Of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Land Use Planning Under Way UP and down the land during the last year, farm men and women have organized themselves into community and county land use planning committees. In counties in 47 States they are sitting down with representatives of Federal, State, and local agencies to develop agricultural plans, policies and programs for their counties. These committees are planning for action by individuals, by groups, or by public agencies. What sort of problems are the committees tackling? How are they trying to solve these problems? What results have they achieved? Where are the committees located? What about the size and composition of the county committees? Of the community committees? These are just a few of the questions that have been asked since the United States Department of Agriculture and the land-grant colleges agreed to cooperate in sponsoring land use planning by farmers. This publication has been prepared to answer many such questions. But first it is necessary to consider briefly a few more basic questions. What is county land use planning in the first place? How did it come about? How does it work? Let us start with the question, What is county land use planning? It is a cooperative effort on the part of representative farmers, various agencies of the Department of Agriculture, the land-grant colleges, and other State and local agencies to work out agricultural plans and policies that will (1) aid in coordinating various agricultural programs so that they will fit together into a well-rounded whole, (2) help them function most effectively toward long-time as well as emergency goals, and (3) develop any new programs that are needed.
