Book Tire Use Survey

Download or read book Tire Use Survey written by Jack L. Harvey and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The review summarizes the results of two surveys of the physical condition and use of passenger car tires in the continental U.S.A.Based on the compiled evidence, some conclusions are drawn concerning the physical condition, use, and abuse of passenger car tires in service during these years, particularly with regard to tread depth, inflation pressures, and degree of overloading. The various estimates of tire disablement rates are compared, and contributions of tires to motor vehicle accidents explored. The report includes several recommendations directed toward upgrading the level of quality of passenger car tires in service, and reducing their abuse, with the hope and expectation that service performance will be improved, and contributions of tires to highway accidents reduced.(Author).

Book TIRE FAILURES AND EVIDENCE MANUAL

Download or read book TIRE FAILURES AND EVIDENCE MANUAL written by R.W. Rivers and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At-scene traffic accident investigators and reconstructionists have a responsibility to determine whether or not a tire contributed to a vehicle accident. This manual will prepare investigators and analysts to meet the high standard of performance and expertise expected of them in these investigations. The text covers a wide variety of tire failure investigation topics, including the manufacturing, markings and identification, tire and wheel nomenclatures, tire load and speed ratings, tire-roadway behavior, at-scene investigations, and evidence recognition, collection, and interpretation. Each chapter and a comprehensive appendix provides clear definitions of and statements about the topics the manual contains, with graduated commentary and copious diagrams and photographs arranged so as to present a natural development and understanding of the subject matter. The manual also addresses the importance of an at-scene investigator knowing his or her limitations in making tire failure determinations and knowing when a case should be turned over to an expert for laboratory analysis. This unique text is designed not only for use as a handy reference manual, but also to be of assistance as a training document for use in police training schools that teach tire failure examinations as part of their curriculum or as a special topic in field training programs.

Book Tire Related Factors in the Pre Crash Phase

Download or read book Tire Related Factors in the Pre Crash Phase written by Eun-ha Choi and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focuses on tire problems as experienced by light vehicles in the pre-crash phase. Of special interest are tire problems such as blowouts or flat tires, tire or wheel deficiency, tire or wheel failure, and tire degradation. The effect of crash factors on a vehicle experiencing such tire problems in the pre-crash phase is examined. Tire tread depth, tire pressure, driving experience, vehicle familiarity, rollover, aggressive driving acts, rollover, vehicle body type, and climatic and road conditions are the candidate factors. The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Survey (NMVCCS) data from 2005 to 2007 is used in the statistical analyses. This data, collected at the crash scene, provides information about what happened immediately prior to the crash.

Book The Effect of Vehicle Characteristics on Road Accidents

Download or read book The Effect of Vehicle Characteristics on Road Accidents written by I. S. Jones and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Effect of Vehicle Characteristics on Road Accidents investigates whether vehicle characteristics related to handling and stability contribute to road accidents. Using multiple regression analysis, this book addresses driver and vehicle effects separately in order to define both the magnitude of the handling/accident causation problem as well as the relative importance of the various performance measures. This monograph is comprised of six chapters and begins with detailed studies of accidents to determine the circumstances which lead to loss of control or overturning of a car on the road, and which accidents are likely to be influenced by the handling and stability characteristics of cars. Accident rates for these types of accident are then examined for the more popular models of car. Measures of vehicle handling and stability related to accident rates are also discussed. This text will be a useful resource for motorists and road engineers as well as transportation officials.

Book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods

Download or read book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods written by Raymond M Brach and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2011-04-12 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for the experienced practitioner, this new book aims to help reconstruction specialists with problems they may encounter in everyday analysis. The authors demonstrate how to take the physics behind accidents out of the idealized world and into practical situations. Real-world examples are used to illustrate the methods, clarify important concepts, and provide practical applications to those working in the field. Thoroughly revised, this new edition builds on the original exploration of accident analysis, reconstruction, and vehicle design. Enhanced with new material and improved chapters on key topics, an expanded glossary of automotive terms, and a bibliography at the end of the book providing further reading suggestions make this an essential resource reference for engineers involved in litigation, forensic investigation, automotive safety, and crash reconstruction. Police officers, attorneys, and insurance professionals will also find the book to be a definitive resource in reconstructing accident scenes. New Topics: • Event data recorders (EDRs) • Frictional drag coefficients for sliding tires • Railroad grade-crossing collisions • New practical applications of mathematical methods Enhanced Features: • Expanded glossary of automotive terms • Bibliography with further reading suggestions • Improved chapters on tire forces, rollover accidents, crush energy, pedestrian collisions, vehicle dynamic simulation
