Book Rocket Sled Blast Simulation Feasibility Study Volume Iii Environmental Development

Download or read book Rocket Sled Blast Simulation Feasibility Study Volume Iii Environmental Development written by Cary A. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of environmental tests was conducted during the development of the Rocket Sled Blast Simulation Technique. This technique used a rocket sled to propel a full-scale reentry vehicle through simulated nuclear environments. Three free-air TNT detonations and six Freon 114-filled, explosively driven plywood shock tube tests were conducted and the results are discussed. The results of conventional shock tube tests that verify how well Freon 114 (as a test gas) conformed to theory are also presented. (Author).

Book Rocket Sled Blast Simulation Feasibility Study Volume I Feasibility Study

Download or read book Rocket Sled Blast Simulation Feasibility Study Volume I Feasibility Study written by Cary A. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear blast effects on full-scale reentry vehicles (RV) and interceptor missiles required a sophisticated simulation technique. This technique employed a rocket sled with speeds of Mach 6, and the capability of separating and free-flying the structural model through simulated nuclear environments. The nonnuclear environments consisted of large free-air TNT detonations and dense, gas-filled, explosively driven, plywood shock tubes. All aspects of the 4-year experimental program are summarized in this volume of a five-volume report including what was simulated, the environment used, the sled design plus related techniques, and the instrumentation systems developed. The results of all experimental tests are included plus procedures, planning, and conducting future blast vulnerability studies, impacts, and full-scale proof tests. (Author).

Book Rocket Sled Improved Velocity Measuring System Feasibility Study

Download or read book Rocket Sled Improved Velocity Measuring System Feasibility Study written by Walter Naumann and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been performed to determine ways to more accurately measure rocket sled velocity. Extreme accuracies of + or - 0003 meter/sec up to 600 meters/sec (0.001 ft/sec up to 2000 ft/sec) are desired in order to adequately test guidance systems. Measurements are desired every millisecond along the 15 kilometer (10 mile) length of the track. After an extensive search, optical interferometers of 2 types were selected for further study. The first of these looks ahead to a sequence of mirrors mounted next to the track. The second looks vertically down at the rail surface and uses fore and aft scattered light from a laser illuminated spot. An improved version of an existing optical beam break system was also selected as a lower performance, lower cost option. Areas of investigation have been the high levels of vibration on the sled, alignment fluctuations due to sled flexing and yaw, and signal-to-noise ratio including sources, paths and detectors. Other investigations concerned variations in the speed of light, limits of angle resolution and methods of referencing the velocity to a shock mounted guidance package. Experiments are recommended to obtain data on the ambient environments, the sled environment, and several environment controlling and instrumentation techniques. (Author).

Book Feasibility Study for a Large Blast Simulator volume i

Download or read book Feasibility Study for a Large Blast Simulator volume i written by A. H. Wiedermann and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this research program is to determine the most feasible means of obtaining a nuclear blast simulator which will reproduce the transient flow field associated with the 500 psig. overpressure range of large nuclear weapon detonations. The blast simulator is of the general purpose type and is characterized by a traveling shock wave followed by a flowing gas. The test section is of the order of 25 x 50 feet in section and contains, in addition to the gas flow region, a soil container or region in which air induced stress waves can be generated. Two concepts were considered the most feasible. One is the standard shock tube concept which consists of a long tube, closed at one end, in which explosives are distributed over a large region and detonated. The other is the space variable energy input shock tube concept which consists of a long tube, open at both ends, in which explosives are distributed in a non-uniform manner. The resulting detonation yields longitudinal pressure gradients which are similar to the wave forms of interest. Both of these concepts simulate the overpressure and dynamic pressure variation in the test section satisfactorily. Cost estimates for these two concepts were made for a variety of facility sizes and blast wave parameters. (Author).

A large number of potential blast simulator concepts were evaluated and their performance char acteristics were determined. Preliminary designs were made for those concepts which possessed the best over-all performance characteristics and estimates of their economic feasibility were established. Volume II consists of several appendices that are referenced in Vol. I, which give the details of the feasibility study analysis. (Author).

Book Facilities and Techniques for Aerodynamic Testing at Transonic Speeds and High Reynolds Number

Download or read book Facilities and Techniques for Aerodynamic Testing at Transonic Speeds and High Reynolds Number written by North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. Fluid Dynamics Panel and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 1968, the FDP of AGARD held a specialists' meeting in Paris on transonic aerodynamics, in recognition of the fact that the absence of adequate theoretical methods and wind-tunnels of high enough Reynolds number had already led to costly shortcomings in the transonic performance of certain combat and transport aircraft. Since projected aerospace systems, military, civil and space-oriented, would involve flight at Reynolds number of up to 100 million, the FDP undertook an examination of the requirements of NATO nations for wind tunnel facilities for testing large models at high Reynolds numbers.
