Download or read book Rockbursts in Coal Mines and Their Prevention written by Gerhard Braeuner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preventive methods described have proved highly effective. They comprise laying out the workings in such a way as to minimize dangerous concentrations of ground stresses, and early elimination by means of blasting, drilling, or water infusion. An account of these methods as applied in German coal mines, the deepest in the world. Contents: Rockbursts & similar phenomena; Conditions of occurrence; Influence of rock stress; Bursting & nonbursting coal; Long-term prevention; Direct prevention; Borehole patterns for direct prevention; Destressing methods; Case histories.

Book Monitoring Assessment Prevention and Mitigation of Rock Burst and Gas Outburst Hazards in Coal Mines MAPROC

Download or read book Monitoring Assessment Prevention and Mitigation of Rock Burst and Gas Outburst Hazards in Coal Mines MAPROC written by and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of MapROC project has been to field test and develop a number of rock burst and gas outburst prevention techniques based on stress and pressure relief principles and evaluate their performance through continuous microseismic monitoring at mine sites. It was established that large diameter stress and gas pressure relief boreholes used at barrier pillars, and the borehole blasting practices extensively tested at Coal Mine Velenje were very effective. As a result, these measures have now entered in Coal Mine Velenje's statutes and will be implemented at all development sites against increased rock burst hazards. Extensive field microseismic monitoring carried out at two mines and near-real-time assessment of this data on a weekly basis led to the development of a number of risk assessment techniques which were validated for their future use by the industry. A catalogue of short term risk evaluation models aiming at forecasting the risk levels of rock bursts and coal and gas outbursts in terms of different evaluation indices. Furthermore, a number of numerical modelling methods were also developed and validated. Utilising all the learnings from MapROC, a generic risk assessment methodology was developed and validated using to a representative number of mining scenarios utilising site-specific data and the laboratory and field studies conducted in the MapROC project. The generic methodology is believed to be applicable to most European coal mines with different geological and mining conditions. The state-of-the-art best technologies report describing the monitoring, assessment, prevention and mitigation of rock burst and gas outburst hazards in coal mines can be used by the industry in Europe and internationally.

Book Introduction to Rock Mechanics

Download or read book Introduction to Rock Mechanics written by Richard E. Goodman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1991-01-16 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduces a new approach to rock mechanics called ``block theory,'' which formalizes procedures for selecting proper shapes and orientations for excavations in hard jointed rock. Applies block theory to rock slopes and underground excavations, and covers the Q theory of rock classification, the empirical criterion of joint shear strength, rock bolting, properties of weak rocks, statistical frequency of jointing, an empirical criterion of rock strength, and design of underground supports. Contains many new problems with worked-out solutions.

Book Rockburst in Extra thick Coal Seam Mining Mechanism and Prevention

Download or read book Rockburst in Extra thick Coal Seam Mining Mechanism and Prevention written by Sitao Zhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2024-07-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed introduction to the mechanism of rockburst in extremely thick coal seam mining and explores the mechanical mechanism on why the critical depth of rockburst in extremely thick coal seam mining is significantly smaller than that in thin to thick coal seams, it also proposes targeted monitoring, warning, and treatment technologies. The prevention and control of coal mine rockburst is a global problem, attracting engineers and scientists from various disciplines such as mining, geology, geophysics, and civil engineering to conduct research. This book provides multiple case studies of rockburst accidents in mining of ultra-thick coal seams and provides a detailed analysis of the mechanisms and treatment technologies of each rockburst accident. It aims at graduate students, researchers, and on-site engineers who are interested in the mechanism of rockburst occurrence, monitoring, early warning, and treatment technology. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. The present version has been revised technically and linguistically by the authors in collaboration with a professional translator.

Book Rockburst

Download or read book Rockburst written by Xia-Ting Feng and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rockburst: Mechanisms, Monitoring, Warning and Mitigation invites the most relevant researchers and practitioners worldwide to discuss the rock mechanics phenomenon related to increased stress and energy levels in intact rock introduced by drilling, explosion, blasting and other activities. When critical energy levels are reached, rockbursts can occur causing human and material losses in mining and tunneling environments. This book is the most comprehensive information source in English to cover rockbursts. Comprised of four main parts, the book covers in detail the theoretical concepts related to rockbursts, and introduces the current computational modeling techniques and laboratory tests available. The second part is devoted to case studies in mining (coal and metal) and tunneling environments worldwide. The third part covers the most recent advances in measurement and monitoring. Special focus is given to the interpretation of signals and reliability of systems. The following part addresses warning and risk mitigation through the proposition of a single risk assessment index and a comprehensive warning index to portray the stress status of the rock and a successful case study. The final part of the book discusses mitigation including best practices for distressing and efficiently supporting rock. Designed to provide the most comprehensive coverage, the book will provide practicing mining and tunneling engineers the theoretical background needed to better cope with the phenomenon, practical advice from case studies and practical mitigation actions and techniques. Academics in rock mechanics will appreciate this complete reference to rockburst, which features how to analyze stress signals and use computational modeling more efficiently. Offers understanding of the fundamental theoretical concepts of rockbursts Explores how to analyze signals from current monitoring systems Shows how to apply mitigating techniques in current work Identifies characteristics that should be measured in order to detect rockburst risk
