Book Rock Solid Living in A Quicksand World Rewind

Download or read book Rock Solid Living in A Quicksand World Rewind written by Alfred McGowen and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock-Solid Living in a Quicksand World is an extremely critical conversation Jesus is having with twenty-first century nations and people regarding the importance of looking back in order to actually have a future. At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, we hear Him teaching us to look backward in Matthew's Gospel (chapters 7 through 5,) and He says, "Embrace these teachings of mine, and actually live by them. Then, when the CAT-5 hurricanes of life pummel you, you will bear up under them! Choose otherwise, and you will collapse in a melodramatic way!" The USA and Western culture are on the path of Rome and Greece. Our foundations are crumbling in much the same way the foundations of these ancient superpowers turned to dust and ruin. These once-great historical titans now stand as crumbling ruins, viewed by today's tourists. They are seen as once great mighty nations that once were but never more shall be. Likewise, our foundations are turning into quicksand. Within the pages of this book, Jesus is calling us back to his teachings, which served us so well. Yes, it is in these teachings that we find personal, national, and cultural salvation and hope for a future. Here in his teachings, we will find the rock-solid foundation for our ever-increasingly crumbling quicksand world.

Book Redeemed to Overcome

Download or read book Redeemed to Overcome written by Pope and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2005-12-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drexel L. Pope, Sr. offers hope and motivation to those who are suffering, and helps readers understand what it takes to battle through and overcome the problems they face today. To do this, Pope says, readers must remember that God measures success differently than man. To become an overcomer, readers must learn to turn away from all elements of self-will, independence, self-centeredness, and isolation and embrace total dependence upon and trust in the Lord. The greatest hindrance for Christians to live an overcoming life is neither a charming world nor a clever devil. Instead, it is the deceitful carnal nature of a fallen self-life. Pope offers an insightful scripture-laden study of what and how Jesus overcame so we may gain understanding on how to follow His lead. It is not an easy task, one that is full of challenge and promise. The challenge is to overcome evil for the glory of God. The promise is that if we do so, we will sit with Christ on his throne. About the Author In 1992, Pastor Drexel L. Pope Sr. and his wife founded an independent charismatic church in the Phoenix, Arizona., area. He also leads and moderates a unique community Bible discussion group using the expository approach to Bible study. Pope, who was born again in April 1953 while attending the Church of God in Clovis, New Mexico, retired from teaching after 29 years in 1988. Recent Release: Christ Glorious Bride

Book Disasters in World History

Download or read book Disasters in World History written by Benjamin Reilly and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disasters in World History surveys the development of disaster studies as a discipline as well as presenting historical case studies and theories used by historians to understand disasters. Disasters, here defined as the complex interaction between natural hazards and specific human vulnerabilities, have frequently left a mark on human history. Cataclysms have toppled dynasties, fueled massacres, and shaped the culture of societies frequently affected by natural hazards. This volume fosters understanding of such events by considering both social science theory and the natural science concepts relevant to disaster studies. In addition, the text makes heavy use of an emerging psychological theory relevant to disaster studies: the behavioral immune system, which helps to explain why xenophobic behavior and even violence often erupt in the aftermath of disasters. Chapters consider specific examples of disasters: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, climate change (including modern anthropogenic climate change or global warming), and tropical cyclones. This book is an accessible resource, ideal for undergraduates and instructors in world history, environmental history, and disaster studies courses.

Download or read book I Love Jesus But I Want to Die written by Sarah J. Robinson and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
