Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victors & Victims unveils the truth that people who find success and joy in life are those who know who they are and give it, versus those who know what they want and take it. Success in life comes in many different forms. Profitable careers and businesses come to mind, but what about happy marriages, well-raised kids, loyal friendships? Success, no matter what its form, has the same foundations. Mastering them means mastering life. We all have different core passions. Some cry for freedom, some for security; some dwell on the past and some on the future. Our core passions dictate how we communicate and what messages and beliefs we listen to and follow. When you understand your own core passions as well as those of the people around you, you can communicate successfully and form powerful relationships filled with joy and promise. And how you understand yourself, God, and your passions will determine whether you live your life as a victim (always wanting and taking more), or a victor (joyously giving more, thus receiving more). In this book, Ken Harrison draws from his powerful experiences fighting violent criminals as a police officer in Los Angeles, running and selling international companies, and his 24-year marriage to his high school sweetheart in order to give the keys to turning ambition into success.

Book The Lost Cinema of Mexico

Download or read book The Lost Cinema of Mexico written by Olivia Cosentino and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lost Cinema of Mexico is the first volume to challenge the dismissal of Mexican filmmaking during the 1960s through 1980s, an era long considered a low-budget departure from the artistic quality and international acclaim of the nation’s earlier Golden Age. This pivotal collection examines the critical implications of discovering, uncovering, and recovering forgotten or ignored films. This largely unexamined era of film reveals shifts in Mexican culture, economics, and societal norms as state-sponsored revolutionary nationalism faltered. During this time, movies were widely embraced by the public as a way to make sense of the rapidly changing realities and values connected to Mexico’s modernization. These essays shine a light on many genres that thrived in these decades: rock churros, campy luchador movies, countercultural superocheros, Black melodramas, family films, and Chili Westerns. Redefining a time usually seen as a cinematic “crisis,” this volume offers a new model of the film auteur shaped by productive tension between highbrow aesthetics, industry shortages, and national audiences. It also traces connections from these Mexican films to Latinx, Latin American, and Hollywood cinema at large. A volume in the series Reframing Media, Technology, and Culture in Latin/o America, edited by Héctor Fernández L’Hoeste and Juan Carlos Rodríguez Contributors: Brian Price | Carolyn Fornoff | David S. Dalton | Christopher B. Conway | Iván Eusebio Aguirre Darancou | Ignacio Sánchez Prado | Dolores Tierney | Dr. Olivia Cosentino Publication of this work made possible by a Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Book Victim to Victor

Download or read book Victim to Victor written by Christopher McKeon and published by Tőteppit Press. This book was released on 2024-01-06 with total page 1413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the mighty (rich) fall. Remember the Moonie-inspired assassination of Japan's former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, in July 2022? In late 2023 the Japanese government asked the courts to dissolve the Japanese Unification Church and mulled legislation to strip its assets for victim reparations. A timely moment to reflect on a powerfully new, now self-destructed, religious experience by an eyewitness. In 1981 Sun Myung Moon's message of unconditional love revitalizes an idealistic, embittered disabled veteran. But it's more a Bushido-flavored Imperial Japanese Caesarism than God's individual liberty. Broken on the rack of faith, Chris locks horns with victimocracy's blame game. He hits rock bottom then an agonizing but liberating rebirth from guilt, domestic violence, fanaticism, excommunication, shipwreck, a shattering depression, imploding faith, near suicide, and shirking. Snarky. Exciting. The first to analyze the nuts and bolts of America's Unification Church from its missionary and business trenches to its top leaders told by the shark's meal charging headlong down its gullet. Chris' 21-year odyssey gravels along from recruitment to serial rejection, street hack to lauded manager, livid victim to joyful victor. If you were ever a Unificationist or some stripe of idealogue; a domestic violence victim or maybe a perpetrator; a near-suicide feeling crushed 'neath life's ironshod boot or love's heartless hate; or just can't stop shooting holes in your feet, this book might open your awareness to paralyzing, scapegoating victimism and a path of transitioning to your own life-giving victorism. It couldn't hurt.
