Book Engineering Properties of Rocks

Download or read book Engineering Properties of Rocks written by Lianyang Zhang and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More often than not, it is difficult or even impossible to obtain directly the specific rock parameters of interest using in situ methods. The procedures for measuring most rock properties are also time consuming and expensive. Engineering Properties of Rocks, Second Edition, explores the use of typical values and/or empirical correlations of similar rocks to determine the specific parameters needed. The book is based on the author's extensive experience and offers a single source of information for the evaluation of rock properties. It systematically describes the classification and characterization of intact rock, rock discontinuities, and rock masses, and presents the various indirect methods for estimating the deformability, strength, and permeability of these components as well as the in situ rock stresses. Presents a single source for the correlations on rock properties Saves time and resources invested on in situ testing procedures Fully updated with current literature Expanded coverage of rock types and geographical locations

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KWIC Index of Rock Mechanics Literature, Part 2: 1969-1976 is an index of subjects in rock mechanics. The KWIC (keyword-in-context) index is produced by cyclic permutation of significant words in the title of the publication. The text covers materials in rock mechanics and geomechanics published around the 70s. The book will be of great use to students, researchers, and practitioners of geological sciences.

Book Soft Rock Mechanics and Engineering

Download or read book Soft Rock Mechanics and Engineering written by Milton Kanji and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-24 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a practical reference guide to soft rock mechanics for engineers and scientists. Written by recognized experts, it will benefit professionals, contractors, academics, researchers and students working on rock engineering projects in the fields of civil engineering, mining and construction engineering. Soft Rock Mechanics and Engineering covers a specific subject of great relevance in Rock Mechanics – and one that is directly connected to the design of geotechnical structures under difficult ground conditions. The book addresses practical issues related to the geomechanical properties of these types of rock masses and their characterization, while also discussing advances regarding in situ investigation, safety, and monitoring of geotechnical structures in soft rocks. Lastly, it presents important case histories involving tunnelling, dam foundations, coal and open pit mines and landslides.

Book Geotechnical Descriptions of Rock and Rock Masses

Download or read book Geotechnical Descriptions of Rock and Rock Masses written by William L. Murphy and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geotechnical descriptors for rock and rock mass are suggested for use in the field that can be readily understood by geotechnical engineers and contractors. Geotechnical applications include tunnel support. slope and foundation stability, and rock excavation. The descriptors are rock type, strength, discontinuity characterization, weathering, rock quality designation (RQD), ground-water conditions, and rock density. The rock name or type should be retained in field description but uncommon rock names should be accompanied by a brief definition to enable the user to relate to more common rock types. Rock strength should be described quantitatively by the point load index test. Descriptions of discontinuities should include measurement and classification of aperture and a determination of whether the discontinuity is open or tight; filling thickness and composition; wall asperity or roughness; and orientation of individual discontinuities; sets and systems. Use of stereographic projection and unambiguous azimuthal notation to describe discontinuity orientation is recommended. Bieniawski's classification of rock weathering is recommended. Field recognition and description of seepage and groundwater conditions along discontinuities based on simple observations of the amount of water present and estimates of discharge are recommended to precede and augment the design of more elaborate pore pressure and seepage analysis investigations.

Book Physical Properties of Rocks

Download or read book Physical Properties of Rocks written by Jürgen Schön and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1998 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interpretation of geophysical data in exploration geophysics, well logging, engineering, mining and environmental geophysics requires knowledge of the physical properties of the rocks and their correlation. Physical properties are a "key" for combined interpretation techniques. The study of rock physics provides an interdisciplinary treatment of physical properties, whether related to geophysical, geotechnical, hydrological or geological methodology. The book is a comprehensive and concise systematic presentation of the physical properties of rocks. It is focussed on the problems of applied geophysics with respect to exploration and the expanding field of applications in engineering and mining geophysics, geotechnics, hydrology and environmental problems, and the properties under the conditions of the upper earth crust. This volume contains theoretical and experimental results relating to the main geophysical properties density, magnetic properties, natural radioactivity, elastic and anelastic properties, electrical and thermal. It also presents the correlation between the individual properties as a basis of modern interpretation methods, including relationships between geophysical and geotechnical properties.

Book Engineering Rock Mechanics

Download or read book Engineering Rock Mechanics written by John A Hudson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-06-12 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering rock mechanics is the discipline used to design structures built in rock. These structures encompass building foundations, dams, slopes, shafts, tunnels, caverns, hydroelectric schemes, mines, radioactive waste repositories and geothermal energy projects: in short, any structure built on or in a rock mass. Despite the variety of projects that use rock engineering, the principles remain the same. Engineering Rock Mechanics clearly and systematically explains the key principles behind rock engineering. The book covers the basic rock mechanics principles; how to study the interactions between these principles and a discussion on the fundamentals of excavation and support and the application of these in the design of surface and underground structures. Engineering Rock Mechanics is recommended as an across-the-board source of information for the benefit of anyone involved in rock mechanics and rock engineering.
