Book Frequency Domain Design of Robust Controllers for Space Structures

Download or read book Frequency Domain Design of Robust Controllers for Space Structures written by William Howard Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Phase 1 effort was to investigate and demonstrate the feasibility of a new class of computational algorithms for the design of high performance control laws for flexible space structures based on frequency response modeling and to consider advanced techniques for the implementation of real time control for precision (wide bandwidth) applications. Typical applications requiring advanced realtime control of flexible space structure include vibration suppression and isolation of payload subsystems. Performance of vibration suppression and isolation systems are critical factors effecting achievable levels of performance for space based optical systems. In the Phase 1 effort, a prototype software code was developed for testing computational algorithms for spectral factorization, causal projection, and coprime factorization-critical steps in frequency domain design of precision control laws. Keywords: Computer programs; Mathematical models; Algorithms.

Book Design of Robust Controllers Frequency Domain Methods and Their Non Linear Extensions

Download or read book Design of Robust Controllers Frequency Domain Methods and Their Non Linear Extensions written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accomplishments were to extend H(infinity) control in new directions: (1) non-linear control. Theoretical work gave algorithms for determining in real time key properties (the state) of a system one tries to control. Purely numerical work gave a "turnkey" methodology for designing optimal controllers for the compressor stall problem. Mathematically related was numerical solution of the extremely hard path planning problem, biped motion, a "5-link robot". (2) Computer algebra methods appropriate for systems which are aggregates of smaller systems (commercial computer algebra packages now do not do this). (3) One of the most common techniques now used for performance optimization (co-ordinate descent applied to matrix inequalities) and show that it gives the wrong answer with probability one. Also results give a test to see how far off (local optimum) this is.

Book Robust Control Design

Download or read book Robust Control Design written by Theodore E. Djaferis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To a large extent, our lives on this earth depend on systems that operate auto matically. Manysuchsystems can be found in nature and others are man made. These systems can be biological, electrical, mechanical, chemical, or ecological, to namejust a few categories. Our human body is full ofsystems whose conti nued automatic operation is vital for our existence. On a daily basis we come in contact with man made systems whose automatic operation ensures increa sed productivity, promotes economic development and improves the quality of life. A primary component that is responsible for the automatic operation of a system is a device or mechanism called the controller. In man made systems one must first design and then implement such a controller either as a piece of hardware or as software code in a computer. The safe and efficient automatic operation of such systems is testimony to the success of control theorists and practitioners over the years. This book presents new methods {or controller design. The process ofdeveloping a controller or control strategy can be dramatically improved if one can generate an appropriate dynamic model for the system under consideration. Robust control design deals with the question of how to develop such controllers for system models with uncertainty. In many cases dynamic models can be expressed in terms oflinear, time invariant differential equations or transfer functions.

Book Robust Control of Time delay Systems

Download or read book Robust Control of Time delay Systems written by Qing-Chang Zhong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-28 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, there have been significant developments in robust control of time-delay systems. This volume presents a systematic treatment of robust control for such systems in the frequency domain. The emphasis is on systems with a single input or output delay, although the delay-free part of the plant can be multi-input-multi-output, in which case the delays in different channels should be the same. The author covers the whole range of H-infinity control of time-delay systems: from controller parameterization implementation; from the Nehari problem to the four-block problem; from theoretical developments to practical issues. The major tools used are similarity transformation, the chain-scattering approach and J-spectral factorization. Self-contained, "Robust Control of Time-delay Systems" will interest control theorists and mathematicians working with time-delay systems. Its methodical approach will be of value to graduates studying general robust control theory or its applications in time-delay systems.

Book System Identification and Robust Control

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology impacts all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies, ... , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. The present text Steen T0ffner-Clausen deals with both system identification and robust control. It provides a very comprehensive tutorial introduction to some of the most difficult topics in robust control theory before considering applications problems. Traditional Hoo robust control design concepts for multivariable systems are first considered and the problems of robust stability and performance are discussed. The following chapter introduces the idea of the structured singular value and applies this to both analysis and synthesis problems. The author manages to provide a very straightforward introduction to this subject and also introduces some new ideas.

Book Robust Control in Power Systems

Download or read book Robust Control in Power Systems written by Bikash Pal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-02 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robust Control in Power Systems deals with the applications of new techniques in linear system theory to control low frequency oscillations in power systems. The book specifically focuses on the analysis and damping of inter-area oscillations in the systems which are in the range of 0.2-1 Hz. The damping control action is injected through high power electronic devices known as flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controllers. Three commonly used FACTS controllers: controllable series capacitors (CSCs) controllable phase shifters (CPSs) and static var compensators (SVCs) have been used in this book to control the inter-area oscillations. The overview of linear system theory from the perspective of power system control is explained through examples. The damping control design is formulated as norm optimization problem. The H_infinity, H2 norm of properly defined transfer functions are minimized in linear matrix inequalities (LMI) framework to obtain desired performance and stability robustness. Both centralized and decentralized control structures are used. Usually the transmission of feedback signal from a remote location encounters delays making it difficult to control the system. Smith predictor based approach has been successfully explored in this book as a solution to such a problem. Robust Control in Power Systems will be valuable to academicians in the areas of power, control and system theory, as well as professionals in the power industry.

Providing a range of solutions to control and signal processing problems, this book: * Presents a comprehensive introduction to the polynomial systems approach for the solution of H_2 and H_infinity optimal control problems. * Develops robust control design procedures using frequency domain methods. * Demonstrates design examples for gas turbines, marine systems, metal processing, flight control, wind turbines, process control and manufacturing systems. * Includes the analysis of multi-degrees of freedom controllers and the computation of restricted structure controllers that are simple to implement. * Considers time-varying control and signal processing problems. * Addresses the control of non-linear processes using both multiple model concepts and new optimal control solutions. Robust Industrial Control Systems: Optimal Design Approach for Polynomial Systems is essential reading for professional engineers requiring an introduction to optimal control theory and insights into its use in the design of real industrial processes. Students and researchers in the field will also find it an excellent reference tool.
