Book excerpt: From the foreword by Thomas Huang: "During the past decade, researchers in computer vision have found that probabilistic machine learning methods are extremely powerful. This book describes some of these methods. In addition to the Maximum Likelihood framework, Bayesian Networks, and Hidden Markov models are also used. Three aspects are stressed: features, similarity metric, and models. Many interesting and important new results, based on research by the authors and their collaborators, are presented. Although this book contains many new results, it is written in a style that suits both experts and novices in computer vision."

Book Computer Vision ECCV 2002

Download or read book Computer Vision ECCV 2002 written by Anders Heyden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-05-17 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Premiering in 1990 in Antibes, France, the European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV, has been held biennially at venues all around Europe. These conferences have been very successful, making ECCV a major event to the computer vision community. ECCV 2002 was the seventh in the series. The privilege of organizing it was shared by three universities: The IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Copenhagen, and Lund University, with the conference venue in Copenhagen. These universities lie ̈ geographically close in the vivid Oresund region, which lies partly in Denmark and partly in Sweden, with the newly built bridge (opened summer 2000) crossing the sound that formerly divided the countries. We are very happy to report that this year’s conference attracted more papers than ever before, with around 600 submissions. Still, together with the conference board, we decided to keep the tradition of holding ECCV as a single track conference. Each paper was anonymously refereed by three different reviewers. For the ?nal selection, for the ?rst time for ECCV, a system with area chairs was used. These met with the program chairsinLundfortwodaysinFebruary2002toselectwhatbecame45oralpresentations and 181 posters. Also at this meeting the selection was made without knowledge of the authors’identity.

Book Robust Recognition via Information Theoretic Learning

Download or read book Robust Recognition via Information Theoretic Learning written by Ran He and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Springer Brief represents a comprehensive review of information theoretic methods for robust recognition. A variety of information theoretic methods have been proffered in the past decade, in a large variety of computer vision applications; this work brings them together, attempts to impart the theory, optimization and usage of information entropy. The authors resort to a new information theoretic concept, correntropy, as a robust measure and apply it to solve robust face recognition and object recognition problems. For computational efficiency, the brief introduces the additive and multiplicative forms of half-quadratic optimization to efficiently minimize entropy problems and a two-stage sparse presentation framework for large scale recognition problems. It also describes the strengths and deficiencies of different robust measures in solving robust recognition problems.

Book Data Segmentation and Model Selection for Computer Vision

Download or read book Data Segmentation and Model Selection for Computer Vision written by Alireza Bab-Hadiashar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-13 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume explores several issues relating to parametric segmentation including robust operations, model selection criteria and automatic model selection, plus 2D and 3D scene segmentation. Emphasis is placed on robust model selection with techniques such as robust Mallows Cp, least K-th order statistical model fitting (LKS), and robust regression receiving much attention. With contributions from leading researchers, this is a valuable resource for researchers and graduated students working in computer vision, pattern recognition, image processing and robotics.
