Book Robust Adaptive Control for Control Reversal

Download or read book Robust Adaptive Control for Control Reversal written by Jeffrey Arthur Lewis and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive control is inherently fault tolerant, but it very often becomes unstable under control reversal which manifests in the dynamics as an opposite to expected sign of control. Control reversal has a history of occurrence via mechanical failure, misrigging, or potentially through software faults. It is effectively a 200 percent difference in expected control and presages quite severe upsets, often leading to hull loss. In addition, not all attitude parameterizations are acceptable for large attitude upsets. An overview of contemporary adaptive control architectures and techniques including model following, dynamic inversion, control allocation, and pseudocontrol hedging is provided. First, an explanation of how current adaptive control techniques cannot be guaranteed to satisfy current fixed point matching condition assumptions is offered. Then, a novel adaptive control approach and robustness modifications for control reversal is described. Finally, a novel robust attitude parameterization with desirable properties will be found for large attitude errors such as those encountered during control reversal. The novel adaptive control technique, inverse gain switching adaptive control (IGSC) is proposed via reformulating the dynamic inverse nominal plant to include an additional adaptive gain in order to be able to match the severe modeling errors incumbent in a reversal. A robustness modification is included to prevent Zeno behavior (chattering) near the zero crossing switch and this is shown to guarantee robust behavior under certain conditions. A direction preserving control allocation is also used in order to preserve fine attitude adjustment post fault and a limited authority fault tolerant attitude guidance law is implemented to prioritize recovery of level flight. The attitude feedback problem for large attitude errors is analyzed and a new shortest distance rotation vector feedback attitude parameterization is presented. Simulation results are provided for a right swashplate actuator reversal for a small single main rotor helicopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in both forward flight and hover using the Penn State - Georgia Tech UAV Simulation Tool (PSU-GUST). The controller recognizes the opposite to expected sign of control and switches within approximately 0.5 seconds. It continues to adapt and has conservatively recovered to tracking the previous trajectory within 10-25 seconds. Using the existing neural net adaptive control law only, the vehicle crashes within less than 10 seconds. The new controller is also suitable over a wider class of faults including a general loss of control effectiveness and an incipient (slowly occurring) reversal. All of these occur using estimated states via a navigation filter from emulated sensors, limited authority actuators, and no direct knowledge of the fault in the controller. Work on fault tolerant adaptive control with IGSC and large attitude errors is a stepping stone to advancing more fully autonomous aerospace systems. This work largely contributes to fault tolerant control which is a means of maintaining stability and handling qualities under faults and disturbances. It is a necessary precursor for more advanced, envelope preserving, integrated fault tolerant autonomous architectures spanning across complex guidance, navigation, control, and flight management tasks. Many future research challenges and opportunities remain in the years ahead.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the applications of robust and adaptive control approaches to practical systems. The proposed control systems hold two important features: (1) The system is robust with the variation in plant parameters and disturbances (2) The system adapts to parametric uncertainties even in the unknown plant structure by self-training and self-estimating the unknown factors. The various kinds of robust adaptive controls represented in this book are composed of sliding mode control, model-reference adaptive control, gain-scheduling, H-infinity, model-predictive control, fuzzy logic, neural networks, machine learning, and so on. The control objects are very abundant, from cranes, aircrafts, and wind turbines to automobile, medical and sport machines, combustion engines, and electrical machines.

Book Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional Order Systems with Disturbance and Saturation

Download or read book Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional Order Systems with Disturbance and Saturation written by Mou Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A treatise on investigating tracking control and synchronization control of fractional-order nonlinear systems with system uncertainties, external disturbance, and input saturation Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional-Order Systems, with Disturbance and Saturation provides the reader with a good understanding on how to achieve tracking control and synchronization control of fractional-order nonlinear systems with system uncertainties, external disturbance, and input saturation. Although some texts have touched upon control of fractional-order systems, the issues of input saturation and disturbances have rarely been considered together. This book offers chapter coverage of fractional calculus and fractional-order systems; fractional-order PID controller and fractional-order disturbance observer; design of fractional-order controllers for nonlinear chaotic systems and some applications; sliding mode control for fractional-order nonlinear systems based on disturbance observer; disturbance observer based neural control for an uncertain fractional-order rotational mechanical system; adaptive neural tracking control for uncertain fractional-order chaotic systems subject to input saturation and disturbance; stabilization control of continuous-time fractional positive systems based on disturbance observer; sliding mode synchronization control for fractional-order chaotic systems with disturbance; and more. Based on the approximation ability of the neural network (NN), the adaptive neural control schemes are reported for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems Covers the disturbance estimation techniques that have been developed to alleviate the restriction faced by traditional feedforward control and reject the effect of external disturbances for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems By combining the NN with the disturbance observer, the disturbance observer based adaptive neural control schemes have been studied for uncertain fractional-order nonlinear systems with unknown disturbances Considers, together, the issue of input saturation and the disturbance for the control of fractional-order nonlinear systems in the present of system uncertainty, external disturbance, and input saturation Robust Adaptive Control for Fractional-Order Systems, with Disturbance and Saturation can be used as a reference for the academic research on fractional-order nonlinear systems or used in Ph.D. study of control theory and engineering.

Book excerpt: Adaptive control is no longer just an important theoretical field of study, but is also providing solutions to real-world problems. Adaptive techniques will transform the world of control. The leading world practitioners of adaptive control have contributed to this handbook which is the most important work yet in this field. Not only are techniques described in theory, but detailed control algorithms are given, making this a practical cookbook of adaptive control for both control professionals and practising engineers. The book presents the most advanced techniques and algorithms of adaptive control. These include various robust techniques, performance enhancement techniques, techniques with less a-priori knowledge, nonlinear adaptive control techniques and intelligent adaptive techniques. Each technique described has been developed to provide a practical solution to a real-life problem. This volume will therefore not only advance the field of adaptive control as an area of study, but will also show how the potential of this technology can be realised and offer significant benefits. - Practical cookbook of adaptive control - Contains important research

Book Applications of Adaptive Control

Download or read book Applications of Adaptive Control written by Kumpati S. Narendra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control Applications of Adaptive covers the proceedings of the 197 Workshop on Applications of Adaptive Control, held in Yale University. This book is organized into five parts encompassing 18 chapters that summarize the potential application of adaptive control to many practical problems. Part I contains tutorials that bring together important result s in two of the most studied approaches to adaptive control, namely, self-tuning regulators and model reference adaptive control (MRAC), with a particular emphasis on the importance of error models in the stability analysis of MRAC. Part II examines the algorithms used for adaptive signal processing, while Part III describes the types of power systems problems that could benefit from application of adaptive control and how to apply adaptive control algorithms for controlling large electric generators. Part IV highlights adaptive control in aircraft systems. This part also considers how adaptive control fell into disfavor in the flight control community, illustrating the existence of residual negative bias. The desirability of cost elimination of air data sensors in less-sophisticated flight control systems is also discussed. Part V addresses the application of process control to chemical processes and to electromechanical systems. This part also shows the robustness and superior tracking and regulation properties of model reference adaptive control applied to liquid level control. Discussion on various classes of model reference adaptive controllers in a common framework from the viewpoint of microcomputer implementation is also included. This book will be of value to control system theorists and practitioners.
