Book A Ticket to He

Download or read book A Ticket to He written by Wanda Schnebly and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Ticket to He . . . is the true story of how Wanda Schnebly and her family's lives were thrust into turmoil and grief because of medical malpractice and what they did to survive and find joy again. There are three powerful elements in her story. One is the medical fiasco that destroyed Kelly Schnebly's life and the resulting malpractice lawsuit. Its award of $1,044,000 was the largest judgment to a minor in the nation and was a catalyst for the medical malpractice panic that started in the seventies and continues yet today. The second is the inspiring struggle of how Wanda led volunteers in her community to build a pilot exemplary educational and residential program locally for children like Kelly. It started in her home as a day care program for four children and continues today in six Iowa communities serving nearly two hundred persons. Its 2008 annual report lists income of $12,601,936 with expenditures for services of $12,184, 063. See www.krysilis.org. The last is a series of powerful and mysterious paranormal events. She doesn't ask the reader to agree with her; rather, she shares the fears and wonderments of these up-close encounters of life, death, an inner voice, Jesus, nightmares, and other paranormal events, such as the unfinished last word in the title of this book, A Ticket to He . . . Perhaps the finest hours of her story are the ones that share how Kelly's spirit broke through his profound and multiple handicaps and touched others. He has a legacy few people achieve. He was a hero, and he inspired others to be heroes too.

Download or read book Business and the Roberts Court written by Jonathan H. Adler and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the Supreme Court appears to have taken a greater interest in "business" issues. Does this reflect a change in the Court's orientation, or is it the natural outcome of the appellate process? Is the Court "pro-business"? If so, in what ways do the Court's decisions support business interests and what does that mean for the law and the American public? Business and the Roberts Court provides the first critical analysis of the Court's business-related jurisprudence. In this volume, prominent academics examine the Roberts Court's handling of business-related cases, through a series of empirical and doctrinal analyses. Issues covered include securities law, antitrust, labor law, preemption, and environmental law, among others. Business law and regulatory cases touch on many important legal doctrines and can have far-reaching effects. Understanding the bases upon which the Supreme Court decides business-related cases is of tremendous importance to practitioners and academics. It can also further greater understanding of one of the nation's most important government institutions. These issues are of interest to academics, but also of practical importance to Supreme Court and business practitioners.

Book From Biblical Book to Musical Megahit

Download or read book From Biblical Book to Musical Megahit written by Juanita Karpf and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many churchgoers will recognize the name William Bradbury, a nineteenth-century American composer of popular hymns still sung at Sunday services. Bradbury’s name may also bring to mind Esther, the Beautiful Queen, his choral setting of a text based on the biblical Book of Esther. The uncomplicated score became enormously popular almost immediately after its initial publication in 1856. In From Biblical Book to Musical Megahit: William B. Bradbury’s “Esther, the Beautiful Queen,” Juanita Karpf traces the work’s rich performance and reception history. Bradbury emphatically stated that he intended Esther to be sung as an unadorned religious and educational piece. Yet many music directors exploited the potential for his score, producing elaborately staged events with costumes, scenery, and acting. Although directors retained Bradbury’s original music, they nonetheless facilitated Esther’s rapid entrée into the realm of music theater. This stylistic transformation ignited a firestorm of controversy. Some clergy and religiously pious citizens condemned theatrical representations of biblical texts as the epitome of debauchery, sacrilege, and sin. In contrast, more tolerant and open-minded theater enthusiasts welcomed the dramatic staging of Esther as wholesome entertainment and as evidence of a refreshingly enlightened approach to biblical interpretation. However heated this debate seemed at times, it did little to quell the continued rise in popularity of Esther. In fact, by the late 1860s, Bradbury’s score had worked its way across the continent, north to Canada and, eventually, to Great Britain, Australia, Asia, and Africa. With performances recorded over a century after Bradbury published his score, Esther became, by any measure, an international megahit.
