They would all one day become rodeo broncs. A long time ago in a big red barn is where the story of my life begins. The big red barn was set on a hilltop, surrounded by grass so high it would tickle my belly. The trees were so tall they hung over the rooftop. I remember how the morning sun rising above the mountains would make the sky turn bright red. The days started with the allure of new adventures to experience My name is Haystack. I am a horse. I remember playing with Boots the dog and Specs the rooster behind the barn in the field where my mama, Libby, would watch us. Wesley, my owner, tells the story of the day they were rounded up, told to him by the old man who helped in this endeavor. His story went something like this: On the morning the horses were gathered up the trees were frozen from the frost; the wind blew so cold, it was like we were at the North Pole. So, rounding up these horses quickly was the task at hand. We parked our trailers at the top of the canyon wall, in hopes we would find the Mustangs at the bottom of the cliff, warming themselves against the rocks where the sun had been shining.

You'll do trial renderings of key sections of a picture, plan the direction of your strokes, and make corrections. You'll also practice drawing the head, hands, and figure; learn how to handle perspective, compositions, shadows, and textures; and find advice on using photographs and other drawing aids. Book Women on the Edge

Download or read book Women on the Edge written by Samantha Dunn and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As White Oleander author Janet Fitch explains in the introduction to Women on the Edge, the stories in this collection achieve the ultimate outland status in the point of their creation, which is the edge of the continent - Los Angeles. For Los Angeles writers, the boundariness is taken to the furthest extent - for what could be more peripheral than serious short stories written in a town known predominantly for its big screens and action figures and silicone-enhanced placticine femmes? writes Fitch. Some of the women who have contributed to this collection are well-known figures in the literary landscape - Aimee Bender, Carol Muske Dukes, Lisa Teasely, Rachel Resnick - while others have little publishing experience. All, however, contribute compelling stories that are fresh in their approach, immaculate in their execution. This exciting, unexpected anthology is not a best of but rather a gathering of escritoras, a handful of voices singing in Los Angeles at a particular moment in time, their characters walking wide, weird worlds with an ear to the shifty ground.

Book Not by Accident

Download or read book Not by Accident written by Samantha Dunn and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Samantha Dunn used to live for the feeling of wind blowing in her hair and the powerful intoxication of her horse's steady gallop. A tug of Harley's leathery reins could instantly eradicate mounting bills, unfinished work, and the reality of a troubled marriage from her mind. But one day, as she was leading Harley across a stream in a picturesque California canyon, he panicked, knocked her to the ground, and trampled her—nearly severing her leg in the process. Dunn had always been “accident prone”—but in the aftermath of this incident, she began to analyze the details of her life and her propensity for accidents. Was she really just a klutz? Or could there be some underlying emotional reason she was always putting her life in danger? A blend of personal narrative and of research about what drives some people to have more accidents than others, Not by Accident is an insightful, incisive memoir that helps bridge the gap in understanding that exists on the concept of accident proneness.
