Book Robert Emmet a Survey of His Rebellion and of His Romance 1904 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Robert Emmet a Survey of His Rebellion and of His Romance 1904 Classic Reprint written by Louise Imogen Guiney and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Robert Emmet a Survey of His Rebellion, and of His Romance, 1904 The following unscientific monograph, a sort of little historical descant, is founded upon all the accurate known literature of the subject, and also largely on the Hardwicke MSS. These, in so far as they relate to Emmet, the writer was first to consult and have copied, last winter, before they were catalogued. But while these sheets were in press, several interesting fragments from the MSS. appeared in the Cornhill Magazine for September, 1903, thus forestalling their present use. This discovery will condone the writer's innocent claim, made on page 60, of printing the two letters there as unpublished matter. The portrait is after Brocas's hurried courtroom sketch, made the day before the execution. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Robert Emmet: A Historical Romance I have called this book a historical romance. Romantic, certainly, the story is in itself, but it is a romance of fact. Not merely in the broad outline, but in every detail of the narrative, (with a single exception, of no great historic importance, duly avowed in the note which I append, ) this is a faithful recital of things which happened in the year 1803. The names are the real names of the actors in those scenes; and I have used little more imaginative licence than was conceded to historians who assigned to generals and to politicians speeches suitable to this or that occasion. How far it is justifiable to give the colours of fiction to a historical narrative, my critics, if I have any, must decide. At least, there is no attempt made in these pages, to dissect the character of a national hero. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating book is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins. While most people in the United States today have no British ancestors, they have assimilated regional cultures which were created by British colonists, even while preserving ethnic identities at the same time. In this sense, nearly all Americans are "Albion's Seed," no matter what their ethnicity may be. The concluding section of this remarkable book explores the ways that regional cultures have continued to dominate national politics from 1789 to 1988, and still help to shape attitudes toward education, government, gender, and violence, on which differences between American regions are greater than between European nations.

This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 2385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American poet and essayist Louise Imogen Guiney was a prominent figure of the Boston literary circle of her day. She is chiefly known for her lyrical, Old English-style poems, recalling the conventions of seventeenth-century poetry. Informed by her religious faith, Guiney's works exhibit a concern for the Catholic tradition, while emphasising moral rectitude and heroic gallantry. By the end of the nineteenth century, Guiney was regarded as a major contributor to American literature. In later years, she turned to scholarship, concentrating on neglected poets. The Delphi Poets Series offers readers the works of literature’s finest poets, with superior formatting. This volume presents Guiney’s complete works, with numerous illustrations and the usual Delphi bonus material.
