Book Experimental investigation of relevant road surface descriptors for tire road noise measurements on low absorbing road surfaces

Download or read book Experimental investigation of relevant road surface descriptors for tire road noise measurements on low absorbing road surfaces written by Pinay, Julien and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ihrer Arbeit in der Originalsprache: This work aims at identifying relevant road surface characteristics to mitigate tire-road noise of free-rolling tires using a systematic approach. As using open porous roads is already known as an efficient measure to reduce tire rolling noise, this study will focus on compact road surfaces which have a low acoustic absorption. Measurements on standardized ISO 10844 test tracks and on public roads are used to study the norm's representativity and its completeness.

Book Characterization of Road Surfaces Using High Resolution 3D Surface Scans to Develop Parameters for Predicting Tire surface Friction

Download or read book Characterization of Road Surfaces Using High Resolution 3D Surface Scans to Develop Parameters for Predicting Tire surface Friction written by Ryan J. Walton and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being able to accurately predict the coefficient of friction between a tire-surface pairing is highly desirable. Accurate coefficient of friction values would find use in tire models, highway safety applications, and motorsport competitions. The work in this thesis seeks to accurately measure road surface texture at high resolution, and examine the influence of surface texture on the friction response. Friction measurements were obtained with skid systems using ASTM standardized tires, and a British Pendulum Tester. Great effort was taken to keep the tire or rubber used constant such that the isolated effect of the road surface texture on the coefficient of friction could be observed. Friction measurements were collected on seventeen unique road surface types. Each of these road surface types were then cored such that two representative samples of road texture could be measured at high resolution in a laboratory setting. From the surface texture measurements on each core, eight surface parameters were identified and computed. These surface parameters were investigated with respect to friction using single and multivariate linear regression models. Additionally surface texture stability was conducted in order to investigate surface measurement practices. Each surface texture data set was subsampled and subdivided in order to better understand minimally acceptable scan size and resolution with respect to surface texture.

Book Automotive Tire Noise and Vibrations

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automotive Tire Noise and Vibrations: Analysis, Measurement and Simulation presents the latest generation mechanisms of tire/road noise. The book focuses not only on tire/road noise issues from the tire/road structures, materials and dynamics, but also from a whole vehicle system. The analyses cover finite element modeling, mathematical simulations and experimental tests, including works done to mitigate noise. This book provides a summary of tire noise and vibration research, with a focus on new simulation and measurement techniques. Covers new measurements techniques and simulation strategies that are critical in accurately assessing tire noise and vibration Provides recent simulation progress and findings of CAE on analysis of generation mechanisms of the tire/road noise Features a Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) and model of a multilayer trim to enhance the sound absorption of tire/road noise

Book Vehicle Tire Road Dynamics

Download or read book Vehicle Tire Road Dynamics written by Tan Li and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-11-24 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicle/Tire/Road Dynamics: Handling, Ride, and NVH presents the connection between NVH and conventional vehicle dynamics where both tire and road play a key role. In this book, there is a chapter for handling dynamics that provides an introduction to ride dynamics and a chapter for ride dynamics that provides an introduction to NVH, presenting better coherence and synergy between these major areas of vehicle/tire dynamics. Accompanying the fundamental theories, case studies are given to facilitate comprehension. In addition to the experimental implementations, the state-of-the-art approaches to simulating vehicle/tire dynamics are presented from the viewpoint of both industry and academia. This new book bridges the gap for experts in tire or pavement NVH (also tire-pavement interaction noise) and those who are experts in vehicle dynamics. Conventional vehicle dynamics (e.g., handling/braking/cornering) is focused on low-frequency performance while NVH (noise/vibration/harshness) is focused on high-frequency performance. There is also another area called "ride" (comfort/stability) which focuses on mid-frequency. Presents a closed loop system for vehicle dynamics, covering handling, riden and NVH. Provides insights into how intelligent tires will enhance autonomous vehicle control and optimize multiple performances, especially for electric vehicles. Demonstrates how pavement characteristics could greatly influence vehicle handling/ride/NVH and improve/balance these performances.

Book Field Evaluation of Tire Road Noise Using a New Close Proximity Method

Download or read book Field Evaluation of Tire Road Noise Using a New Close Proximity Method written by Dae Seung Cho and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new close proximity (NCPX) method has been proposed and applied for the tire-road noise characterization of highway traffic. The implementation of NCPX is based on a set of surface microphones that is attached to a vehicle to directly measure the tire noise. To consider a combined effect of vehicle and road factors, a comprehensive field test has been performed with seven vehicle types at nine pavement sections of the test road. Testing parameters also include a vehicle speed ranging from 50 to 120 km/h, and two driving modes are applied at each speed: coasting and steady. It is found that asphalt pavements are quieter than all concrete pavements irrespective of testing conditions. Among concrete pavements, an 18-mm longitudinally-tined surface exhibits the quietest noise level, while a random transversely-tined surface is ineffective in minimizing the tire noise. Finally, the effect of a heavy axle load on the tire/noise generation is discussed.

Book Effectiveness of Tire road Noise Abatement Through Surface Retexturing by Diamond Grinding for Project SUM 76 15 40

Download or read book Effectiveness of Tire road Noise Abatement Through Surface Retexturing by Diamond Grinding for Project SUM 76 15 40 written by Lloyd Allen Herman and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A portion of I-76, near Akron, OH, had been reconstructed by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) using concrete to replace the previous surface, which was constructed of asphalt. In the process of reconstruction, the concrete surface was textured with random transverse grooves to comply with the current ODOT specification. Subsequent to construction, residents living in the project area as far as 2600 ft (800 m) from the roadway, perceived an unfavorable difference in their noise environment, which they attributed to the new concrete pavement used on the reconstruction project. Therefore, a project was initiated to re-texture the pavement surface by diamond grinding. The transverse grooves were replaced with longitudinal grooves. Traffic noise measurements were made before and after grinding at five sites in the project area, at distances from 7.5 m to 120 m from the center of the near travel lane. The average reduction in broadband noise at 7.5 m was 3.5 dB, and the average reduction at15m was 3.1 dB. Spectrum analysis showed the greatest reduction in noise occurred at frequencies above 1 kHz and that the retexuring had little to no effect on frequencies less than 200 Hz.
