Book Molecular Pathology of Liver Diseases

Download or read book Molecular Pathology of Liver Diseases written by Satdarshan P. S. Monga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 920 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cellular and Molecular Pathology of the Liver is extensive, complex and ranges from the understanding the basic molecular mechanisms that dictate everything from liver homeostasis to liver disease. Molecular Pathology of the liver is complicated due to some of the important functions inherent and unique to the Liver, including its innate ability to regenerate and the multitude of functions it plays for the wellbeing of an organism. With all this in mind, Molecular Pathology of Liver Diseases is organized in different sections, which will coherently and cohesively present the molecular basis of hepatic physiology and pathology. The first two sections are key to understanding the liver anatomy and physiology at a cellular level and go on to define the molecular mechanics in various liver cell types. These sections also cover the existing paradigms in liver development, regeneration and growth. The next section is key to understanding the Molecular Pathology unique to liver diseases and associated phenotypes. The final sections are geared towards the existing knowledge of the molecular basis of many common and uncommon liver diseases in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic areas including pathologies associated with intra-hepatic and extra-hepatic biliary tree. Thus, this textbook is a one-stop reference for comprehending the molecular mechanisms of hepatic pathobiology. It is clearly unique in its format, readability and information and thus will be an asset to many in the field of Pathology and other disciplines.

Book Selected Topics in Clinical Oncology

Download or read book Selected Topics in Clinical Oncology written by J.M. Debois and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By Prof.Dr.A.T.Van Oosterom Head of the Department of Oncology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium The word cancer defines over 180 different diseases. Some occurring quite often and are well known, others are very rare and sometimes so unknown that the diagnosis is not even suspected at operation. In this book, Dr.Debois, a retired radiation oncologist, describes a selected group of cancer types, some of which are difficult to find in the standard textbooks, in a logical format starting with their bibliography, history, incidence, anatomy, clinical presentation, diagnosis and staging, treatment and follow-up. For the general oncologist in the community it gives the appropriate data to understand the described diseases and to familiarize him with the peculiar patient he has identified. The many tables and figures in every chapter contain an enormous amount of data difficult to collect without extensive searches. The mix of historical and new (genetic) data makes reading attractive. In my opinion this book will find his place in the library of every oncologist who wants to know more about the rarer tumors he or she encounters. We know a lot about the common tumors but too little about the diseases described here.

Book Pathology of Incipient Neoplasia

Download or read book Pathology of Incipient Neoplasia written by Donald Earl Henson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-01-25 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many malignant tumors have a morphologically recognizable precursor lesion. As screening and early detection have improved our ability to detect lesions at increasingly earlier stages of growth, an increased number of precancerous lesions are seen by pathologists. Unfortunately, a lack of uniform histologic criteria for precursors found in many organs can make diagnostic interpretation difficult. It is evident that physicians are seeking a better understanding of the genesis and progression of these lesions and their early biology, to provide optimal treatment and patient care. Pathology of Incipient Neoplasia 3E brings together all of the information available on the clinicopathologic features of precancerous lesions, defined to include atypical hyperplasias, in-situ changes, microinvasive or very small cancers in some sites, and other lesions recognized as potential precursors for invasive cancer. In some tissues, benign tumors may serve as precursors to malignant tumors, and therefore these also are considered. Organized by organ, each heavily-illustrated chapter is written by a well-recognized expert, to stress different facets of preneoplasia and minimally invasive tumors in that given tissue. Areas where strides have been made in research on molecular biologic aspects of neoplasia are discussed in conjunction with morphologic parameters. A chapter on salivary glands, and more than 350 color photos interspersed throughout the text, are new to this edition.
