Book Child Abuse and the Legal System

Download or read book Child Abuse and the Legal System written by Inger J. Sagatun and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 1995 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking text examines the legal contexts in which child abuse can be handled, including the criminal, juvenile, domestic relations, and civil courts. The authors focus on the legal rules in each type of proceeding and the ways in which the law has changed to accommodate the special needs of the children in the last fifteen years. Case studies provide examples and help identify the most important issues of child abuse facing the legal system. Child abuse is now a major part of the American legal landscape, involving not only the courts, but also law enforcement and child protection agencies. This is the first text for classroom use to systematically examine the fate of children in the legal system.

Book Higher Education and Innovation

Download or read book Higher Education and Innovation written by Vincenzo Sapienza and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the design of an educational module for an innovative intensive program. The theme is very relevant in the contemporary approach to teaching activities. In fact, thanks to the didactic design, it is possible to obtain a strong relationship between teachers and learners, as required by the Bologna Process. It also allows a stronger definition of learning outcomes. After a general excursus on the subject, the manuscript refers to a recent experience carried out in the Aeolian Island for the Erasmus + Programme, called VVITA. In it, an international group of students and teachers spent a period in the Aeolian Islands, to focus on the features of local vernacular architecture. The attention has been addressed to the Aeolian House, which is a wonderful example of ante litteram sustainable architecture. On the island of Filicudi, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago, it has preserved its characteristics intact. The book is completed by teachers’ lectures and students’ final reports.

Book Nobody s Children

Download or read book Nobody s Children written by Elizabeth Bartholet and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2000-11-17 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobody's Children is an intense look at child welfare policies on abuse and neglect, foster care, and adoption. Elizabeth Bartholet, one of the nation's leading experts on family law, challenges the accepted orthodoxy that treats children as belonging to their kinship and their racial groups and that locks them into inadequate biological and foster homes. She asks us to apply the lessons learned from the battered women's movement as we look at battered children, and to question why family preservation ideology still reigns supreme when children rather than adult women are involved. Bartholet asks us to take seriously the adoption option. She calls on the entire community to take responsibility for its children, to think of the children at risk of abuse and neglect as belonging to all of us, and to ensure that "Nobody's Children" become treasured members of somebody's family.

Book The Book Of David

Download or read book The Book Of David written by Richard J. Gelles and published by . This book was released on 1996-04-04 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard J. Gelles was once one of the most widely published and vocal defenders of family preservation - keeping troubled families together - as a primary goal of social policy. But everything changed when he ran into the tragic case of David Edwards, an infant who was murdered by his mother after falling through the chasms in the child welfare system. Using David's story as a starting point, Gelles eloquently argues that these children must be taken out of harm's way. Gelles also offers several suggestions for rehabilitating the system, including changing its first priority of family preservation to one of child safety, eliminating mandatory reporting of abuse, focusing the system on the more dangerous and harmful cases of maltreatment, developing better and more accurate means of assessing risk, giving better training to caseworkers, and separating the investigation of abuse from case management.
