Book Nuclear Safety in Light Water Reactors

Download or read book Nuclear Safety in Light Water Reactors written by Bal Raj Sehgal and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This vital reference is the only one-stop resource on how to assess, prevent, and manage severe nuclear accidents in the light water reactors (LWRs) that pose the most risk to the public. LWRs are the predominant nuclear reactor in use around the world today, and they will continue to be the most frequently utilized in the near future. Therefore, accurate determination of the safety issues associated with such reactors is central to a consideration of the risks and benefits of nuclear power. This book emphasizes the prevention and management of severe accidents to teach nuclear professionals how to mitigate potential risks to the public to the maximum extent possible. Organizes and presents all the latest thought on LWR nuclear safety in one consolidated volume, provided by the top experts in the field, ensuring high-quality, credible and easily accessible information Explains how developments in the field of LWR severe accidents have provided more accurate determinations of risk, thereby shedding new light on the debates surrounding nuclear power safety, particularly in light of the recent tragedy in Japan Concentrates on prevention and management of accidents, developing methodologies to estimate the consequences and associated risks

Book Light Water Reactor Safety

Download or read book Light Water Reactor Safety written by B. Pershagen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the principles and practices of reactor safety as applied to the design, regulation and operation of light water reactors, combining a historical approach with an up-to-date account of the safety, technology and operating experience of both pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors. The introductory chapters set out the basic facts upon which the safety of light water reactors depend. The central section is devoted to the methods and results of safety analysis. The accidents at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl are reviewed and their implications for light water reactor safety are discussed. The concluding chapters examine selected safety issues and their resolution, and highlight results of reactor safety research. The book is amply illustrated, with numerous cross references and a comprehensive index.

Book Light water Reactor Research and Development

Download or read book Light water Reactor Research and Development written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Energy Research Advisory Board (ERAB) was requested to under take an examination of safety research and development (R and D) on light water reactors (LWRs) in order to advise the Department of Energy (DOE) on the adequacy of those efforts for making effective use of nuclear power. In carrying out this examination, DOE asked that ERAB: (1) review the adequacy of DOE's LWR safety R and D management plan prepared pursuant to Public Law 96-567, (2) examine the safety-related R and D conducted by the various government and nongovernment groups, and (3) identify R and D that could result in major design improvements to LWRs. To carry out this examination, ERAB appointed an expert panel. This report contains the results of ERAB's examination of the first two of the above subjects. The Board has yet to consider the subject of nonsafety-related long-term LWR R and D, as also requested by DOE. Furthermore, in keeping with the Department's guidance, this report does not include an examination of the R and D on related activities such as reprocessing, waste management, and the breeder.

Book Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook

Download or read book Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook written by C.R. Sundararajan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for a comprehensive book on probabilistic structural mechanics that brings together the many analytical and computational methods developed over the years and their applications in a wide spectrum of industries-from residential buildings to nuclear power plants, from bridges to pressure vessels, from steel structures to ceramic structures-became evident from the many discussions the editor had with practising engineers, researchers and professors. Because no single individual has the expertise to write a book with such a di.verse scope, a group of 39 authors from universities, research laboratories, and industries from six countries in three continents was invited to write 30 chapters covering the various aspects of probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor and the authors believe that this handbook will serve as a reference text to practicing engineers, teachers, students and researchers. It may also be used as a textbook for graduate-level courses in probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor wishes to thank the chapter authors for their contributions. This handbook would not have been a reality without their collaboration.
