Book excerpt: Thirty years of daily meteorological data from 37 locations in the Maritime provinces were analyzed to determine the heat units available for silage and grain corn production (CHU). Dates for starting and ending seasonal CHU accumulations were estimated for each year at each location. Yearly data were then subjected to probability analyses to determine availability of CHU at various risk levels. Linear regression equations were used to estimate available CHU for selected probability levels from the mean value and to estimate the probability of selected CHU thresholds being exceeded. Heat unit requirements of corn hybrids recommended for silage and grain production in 1990 were evaluated.
