Seventeen-year-old Will escapes from prison six years after his false conviction for murder. Found by a knight who lets Will serve as a squire, Will takes the knight’s mercy and follows him to war. He’ll protect against infidels, proving to the kingdom he’s not the monster they assume he is, and be seen kindly again. As a child, when he burned a souk, Ahmed was terrified. Now sixteen, Ahmed is confident he’s improved. Seeking to become grand vizier and bring prestige to his family is everything he thought he wanted. The sultan’s test remains: bring an enemy to the capital. He heads to war believing that an enemy’s capture is a small price for the sultan’s blessing. They’re dangerous anyway. Gems of powerful magic bring them together as kingdom and sultanate ravage each other over ignorance and religious zeal, nearing collapse. They’re mortal enemies, their monarchs say, but when Will and Ahmed meet amid fear and mistrust they learn to like each other. Their actions no longer seem right and their gems show a resolution. But who are two boys to effect change when those more likely have failed?

Book Seekers of the Fox

Download or read book Seekers of the Fox written by Kevin Sands and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dying friend, a terrible bargain, an underwater quest, and dangerous magic . . . the adventure continues in this sequel to CHILDREN OF THE FOX. Fans of twisty, clever stories like The False Prince and Ocean's Eleven will love this newest series from Kevin Sands, author of the bestselling Blackthorn Key. Rule number one: Never mess with magic. Even so, a life-or-death situation calls for Callan and his criminal friends to make a deal with the Eye—the sinister, sentient artifact they stole from a sorcerer. It's Lachlan's life in exchange for a future task, and the gang has no choice but to agree. But even as Lachlan is resurrected, it's not without cost. Through the Eye, Callan can see a tiny purple stain inside Lachlan's soul, which will eventually consume him. The cure—and their part of the deal—lies with the Dragon's Teeth, a pair of swords with extraordinary powers, and the search for them leads the thieves on a quest that will unravel the mystery of the Eye. Old friends, new betrayals, and an even more daring break-in than the last culminate in a confrontation that will take all the gang's skill and power to resist—or they'll die trying.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obedience. Self-restraint Endurance. Silence. . . These are the duties of a Highborn lady, and like the veils, masks and tight-fitting underskirts female Kencyr students are obliged to wear, Jame finds them damnably constricting. Sent here by her brother Torisen, Highlord of the Kencyrath, she has tried valiantly to fit in, but the unruly girl can't help throwing the quiet Women's Halls into an uproar. It's not entirely Jame's fault, though. While Tori's vain and vicious consort treats her like an underling, the Kencyr Matriarchs, determined to winnow out her secrets, scheme to use her to their own advantage. And her own brother wants nothing to do with her. On top of this, Shadow Guild assassins have come hunting her, eager to fulfill a long-held contract to dispose of the last of the powerful Knorth clan. It's no wonder that Jame decamps. In the company of her telepathic hunting cat, Jorin, a runaway priestling named Kindrie, and a chance-met squad of cadets, she sets out to rescue a friend from a cruel and ambitious Kencyr lord who seeks the deadly Book Bound in Pale Leather. Dodging ghostwalkers and shadow assassins, riding weirdingstorms and peripatetic trees, Jame discovers that her life is tangled up in a much larger purpose. For the war against Perimal Darkling cannot resume until three terrible objects of power, and the avatars who will wield them, appear. And she just might be one of them. . . . The long-sought third book in P.C. Hodgell's intricate and engaging fantasy series follows the warrior-magician Jame as she battles enemies both in and out of the Women's Halls at Gothregor. The search to find answers brings four complete strangers, each struggling with their own inner turmoil, together to prevent the destruction of the world as they know it. “I’m supposed to tell you my story,” she said. “It isn’t a fun one to tell. But, if the Queen believes the answer to her puzzle is in it and you want to hear it, well, here goes.” She paused, a single finger tapping the table, lips pursed in thought. “This is the story of how my world ended.” Thus begins the recount of how the struggles of four people set in motion events that reshaped an entire world.

Book Far Right Political Parties in Australia

Download or read book Far Right Political Parties in Australia written by Jordan McSwiney and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how Australian far-right parties organise and operate to better understand their limited electoral success. Australian far-right parties have yet to see results comparable to far-right parties in other contexts. Unlike many of their European counterparts that have made significant electoral gains up to and including participation in national governments, the Australian far-right parties of the ‘fourth wave’ have experienced relatively poor electoral results. But this does not necessarily mean that Australia is uniquely hostile to far-right politics. Focusing particularly on the 2019 Australian federal election, this book takes an organisational approach to better understand why Australian far-right parties struggle electorally. Through the novel lens of disorganised parties, the author argues that the failure to develop a functioning party organisation has resulted in Australian far-right parties being unable to effectively navigate their political environment. By focusing on disorganisation, this book provides a new perspective for understanding the limited electoral impact of the far right in Australia today, despite favourable conditions like normalised Islamophobia and growing dissatisfaction with mainstream parties. This book will be of interest to scholars and students of party politics, the far right, populism, and Australian politics.
