Book excerpt: "Ripples… of the soul is a collection of poetry by Chitra Srinivasan. What makes it really interesting, is its simplicity and its ability to relate to the booklover. Be it her depiction of children “As you lay in the crib on a soft bed with tiny cushions I saw your small hands” A butterfly “In early spring bright wings a sea of flying color in a garden of flowers” A busy marketplace “The early morning rush, the train, the bus a crush” Or the Train of Life “The train of life when it arrives with its solitary passengers at the platform of death leaves behind memories that wither like flowers on a wreath”. In this day and age when we are surrounded by the concrete jungle she takes the reader on a virtual trek through nature while sitting in the drawing room. Her description of death is an eye opener as it reveals the complexities of this unchangeable and final truth of our lives. Not to mention her narrative of life, which is equally engaging. One poem that will particularly touch the reader's heart and connect with every reader is ""My Granny."" A grandmother is an indispensable part of our lives and this poem brings out in a very simple and charming manner the story of this wonderful woman. A truly appealing collection of verses wherein every poem will strike a chord with the reader."

Book excerpt: Throughout the ages, all over the world, stories have been used to inspire, to guide and to awaken humanity in our quest to rediscover our Divinity. In a style similar to Kahlil Gibran, Silent Ripples: Parables for the Soul, is a collection of 23 parables to remind the reader of our Absolute, Unchanging, Divine Self. Greatly inspired by A Course in Miracles, the tarot and the sage Ramana Maharshi, these stories were written while the author was on his world travels. The parables are eclectic in nature, incorporating a multiple of archetypes for people of different backgrounds and upon different paths. Like the tarot, which is a collection of images representing qualities the soul must develop on her way to Self-awareness, these parables represent such qualities as well. Some stories may seem contradictory to other ones, but they are actually only another viewpoint of the indefinable Truth of existence.

Download or read book Ripples of Battle written by Victor Davis Hanson and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2004-10-12 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of war refuse to remain local: they persist through the centuries, sometimes in unlikely ways far removed from the military arena. In Ripples of Battle, the acclaimed historian Victor Davis Hanson weaves wide-ranging military and cultural history with his unparalleled gift for battle narrative as he illuminates the centrality of war in the human experience. The Athenian defeat at Delium in 424 BC brought tactical innovations to infantry fighting; it also assured the influence of the philosophy of Socrates, who fought well in the battle. Nearly twenty-three hundred years later, the carnage at Shiloh and the death of the brilliant Southern strategist Albert Sidney Johnson inspired a sense of fateful tragedy that would endure and stymie Southern culture for decades. The Northern victory would also bolster the reputation of William Tecumseh Sherman, and inspire Lew Wallace to pen the classic Ben Hur. And, perhaps most resonant for our time, the agony of Okinawa spurred the Japanese toward state-sanctioned suicide missions, a tactic so uncompromising and subversive, it haunts our view of non-Western combatants to this day.

Book Ripples

Download or read book Ripples written by Phil Sisson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-01-03 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author, Phil Sisson offers a stream of non-stop insights and raw personal experiences into how to connect ones own dots. The book shows that it is possible to heal from past emotional wounds. The original title was Connecting the Dots, inspired by Steve Jobs 2005 commencement address at Stanford University. But with Jobs passing, the author realized that a very important dot, so critical to following ones heart, could not be connected by just looking backwards; it can only be connected by looking backwards and forward. The original idea of the book started in 1976, the year he graduated from UCLA. With so many dots to connect, he admits that youth and fear kept him from facing the real self, and that he didnt have a clue of where to begin. RiPpLeS is the result of his struggle to connect his own heart wrenching personal dots. By being engaged with young performing artists, he saw first-hand how others were caught up in their own quandaries and confusions, expending an extraordinary amount of energy trying to unravel them. As a young college student studying acting, and as the years accumulated, so did the confusions. He was desperate to end the charades but didnt know how, and psychologists were of no help at all. By 2006, after years of performing on stage, he discovered that he was able to help young aspiring dancers learn to act by getting in touch with their own early childhood emotions hidden so deep they were unable to give authentic performances on stage. Instead of performing, they were hiding behind words, he says. The goal of his book is about connecting the dots looking backwards and forward. The forward dots are the ones that heal, and healing is about helping others become authentic doers. That is when the concept of RiPpLeS was born! The title sums up his experiences and struggle to become an authentic human being and actor. In a single word RiPpLeS illustrates everything he believes. Starting with a single pebble thrown into the stillness of consciousness, it is the first trauma of our lives; and with the dropping of that pebble the ponds very center begins to emanate from within, causing ripples on the surface that move away in all directions in search of equilibrium, and finally to be still once again. That one image described perfectly the way I have experienced my own life, he says. Our life experiences are the trauma that not only affects the individual but all the people we meet, expanding out in all directions towards a perfect state of renewed equilibrium. That is what this book and connecting the dots is all about.

Book excerpt: Throughout the ages, all over the world, stories have been used to inspire, to guide and to awaken humanity in our quest to rediscover our Divinity and to answer the prime question: Who am I? In a style similar to Kahlil Gibran, Silent Ripples: Parables for the Soul, is a collection of 39 parables to remind the reader of our Absolute, Unchanging, Divine Self. Greatly inspired by A Course in Miracles, the tarot, Ramana Maharshi, and years of being a Waldorf teacher, these stories emerged. "The parables set forth in Silent Ripples present often forgotten and all too seldom used universal truths in a both compelling and immenently readable fashion. Janaka presents life's lessons in a manner that affects the individual and compells one to reexamine one's "truths"in a non judmental manner. Truly a beautiful and enlightening book." "Janaka, poet, artist, author, offers a collection of original parables written while traveling in Australia, Asia, and the United States. They are an archetypal landscape floating before us as we read; our attention drawn to this or that, each person, each time, differently. This is a Dreaming meant to represent the qualities Soul must find if it is ever to re-awaken to itself. Parables traditionally seem to be a special kind of writing; we have to retain ourselves to read them. It is like reading poetry or somewhere in between."
