Book Swing the Sickle for the Harvest is Ripe

Download or read book Swing the Sickle for the Harvest is Ripe written by Daina Ramey Berry and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Swing the Sickle for the Harvest Is Ripe" compares the work, family, and economic experiences of enslaved women and men in upcountry and lowland Georgia during the nineteenth century. Mining planters' daybooks, plantation records, and a wealth of other sources, Daina Ramey Berry shows how slaves' experiences on large plantations, which were essentially self-contained, closed communities, contrasted with those on small plantations, where planters' interests in sharing their workforce allowed slaves more open, fluid communications. By inviting readers into slaves' internal lives through her detailed examination of domestic violence, separation and sale, and forced breeding, Berry also reveals important new ways of understanding what it meant to be a female or male slave, as well as how public and private aspects of slave life influenced each other on the plantation.

Book excerpt: The Gospel written by the Beloved Disciple St. Augustine once said about the Gospel of John, that, "It is shallow enough for a child not to drown, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim in it." John contains the Bible's favorite verse - John 3:16. John's themes are essential to our understanding of Jesus as Son of God and Messiah. Here we learn about the Holy Spirit, the Counselor who lives within us to guide and empower us. We learn about the Father's love and eternal life. Some of the most beloved stories of Jesus' ministry are found only in the Fourth Gospel -- changing the water into wine, the woman at the well, the woman taken in adultery, raising Lazarus, washing the disciples' feet, and many more. In John's Gospel you find Jesus as the Bread of Life; the Light of the World; the Good Shepherd; the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John's Gospel is lengthy - 21 chapters, but rich and deep. Each chapter concludes with a summary of lessons for disciples to ponder. This study's helpful thought and discussion questions make it useful for personal enrichment and by small groups and classes. Extensive research contained in the footnotes makes it a goldmine for teachers and a boon to preachers involved in sermon preparation.

It's about the land we all must enter someday, if we're lucky, and a look at why we're so afraid of going where others before us have so brilliantly, wonderfully, beautifully tread. Here we spend half our lives wanting to be all grown up, mature. And then when we get there we cower and complain and want to go back-when there is no going back. There's only going forward. So fasten your seat belts, women. And please, enjoy the ride. Book jacket.

Even if you aren't a Christian, there is a wellspring of information and wisdom for your life's problems.I have witnessed hundreds of people that say they have tried self-help books and support groups. They have refrained from their addictions, and have gone to great lengths to try to change their thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. But most often, they go right back their old thoughts, habits, and ways of life.Others have tried money, looks, material gain, power, education, sex, and relationships to make themselves 'happy'. But I find that a great majority of them are dissatisfied and disillusioned. While it may sound too good to be true, I am here to tell you from my own experience that you really can have true and lasting peace, joy, love, hope, and stability in life.Pick up your copy today. Book The Harvest Is Ripe A Farmer s View of Global Harvest

Download or read book The Harvest Is Ripe A Farmer s View of Global Harvest written by Barry Wissler and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Barry Wissler uses his experience growing up on a farm to call for mass-collaboration in fulfilling the great commission. Barry writes about how each of his father's brothers, who owned and operated their own farms, all chose to approach the task of harvesting their crops together. Barry believes that the church will be successful in fulfilling the great commission as it embraces a new paradigm of partnership in harvest. Jesus said that "the Kingdom is like a net," so in our day God is calling leaders around the globe, as fishers of men, to sow their nets together in preparation for an unprecedented explosion of the Kingdom of God on the earth.

Book excerpt: The genius and the sunshine girl. As children, we fought bitterly and often, bickering every chance we got. But then we grew up. Then we came back. Delphine Dansey carries her heart on the outside of her body; she’s looking for love and chasing dreams. She’s spoiled and selfish, the kind of beautiful that’s made for money and fame. But somehow she’s ended up in my keeping: a pretty submissive I can’t seem to resist, a lover who obsesses and tempts me. I thought I’d locked my heart away a long time ago, along with all my other weaknesses. But some doors won't stay closed, no matter how hard I fight to keep them shut. She unravels me, just like our friends are unraveling, just like Thornchapel itself is unraveling. All year long, we’ve been sowing lust and jealousy and pain, heedless of the consequences. But a harvest is inevitable, and so now we must reap our sorrows. And our sighs. *Harvest of Sighs is Book Three in the Thornchapel series.*

Book excerpt: Ripe for Harvest is a contribution to the continuing debate about the meaning, significance and practise of mission. Aware that the whole field of missions is marked by controversy and much theological weakness, the contributors to this volume respond to the call for mission to be set upon firmer biblical theological foundations. Based on papers presented at Moore College's 1997 School of Theology, this book offers Scripture-based answers to some of the most important issues encountered by the modern missionary movement in today's relativistic and pluralist world.

Book excerpt: The steadfast and sturdy Continental Op has been summoned to the town of Personville—known as Poisonville—a dusty mining community splintered by competing factions of gangsters and petty criminals. The Op has been hired by Donald Willsson, publisher of the local newspaper, who gave little indication about the reason for the visit. No sooner does the Op arrive, than the body count begins to climb . . . starting with his client. With this last honest citizen of Poisonville murdered, the Op decides to stay on and force a reckoning—even if that means taking on an entire town. Red Harvest is more than a superb crime novel: it is a classic exploration of corruption and violence in the American grain.
