Book Heating Services in Buildings

Download or read book Heating Services in Buildings written by David E. Watkins and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water based heating systems are efficient, flexible, versatile and offer many advantages over other heating systems. These advantages (fast response, good controllability, efficient zonal heating and largely silent operation) all require that initial design, installation, commissioning and maintenance be carried out to a high standard by competent engineers. Heating Services in Buildings provides the reader with a detailed and thorough understanding of the principles and elements of heating buildings using modern water based heating systems. A key theme of the book is that there is little difference, in the approach to the design and engineering, between domestic and commercial installations. The author’s detailed but highly practical approach to the subject ensures there is sufficient information for students from both a craft background and those with more academic backgrounds to understand the material. This approach is complemented by straightforward, easy-to-use diagrams. Heating Services in Buildings supports a range of educational courses, including degree level building services engineering; NVQ Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Building Services Engineering; City & Guilds supplementary heating course and the Heating Design and Installation Course accredited by the European Registration Scheme (ERS).

Book excerpt: A prize-winning, magisterial history of World War I from the perspective of the defeated Central Powers For the Central Powers, the First World War started with high hopes for an easy victory. But those hopes soon deteriorated as Germany's attack on France failed, Austria-Hungary's armies suffered catastrophic losses, and Britain's ruthless blockade brought both nations to the brink of starvation. The Central powers were trapped in the Allies' ever-tightening Ring of Steel. In this compelling history, Alexander Watson retells the war from the perspective of its losers: not just the leaders in Berlin and Vienna, but the people of Central Europe. The war shattered their societies, destroyed their states, and imparted a poisonous legacy of bitterness and violence. A major reevaluation of the First World War, Ring of Steel is essential for anyone seeking to understand the last century of European history.

Book Structural Optimizations in Strategic Medium Voltage Power System Planning

Download or read book Structural Optimizations in Strategic Medium Voltage Power System Planning written by Leon Thurner and published by kassel university press GmbH. This book was released on 2018-06-25 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis introduces a comprehensive methodology for the automation of the strategic power system planning process in the medium voltage level. The methodology takes the predicted development of load and distributed generation as well as the age structure of the components into account. Target grid structures are computed with a heuristic search that considers constraints for the grid topology, power flow parameters in normal as well as contingency operation, fault currents and service reliability. The implementation is based on the newly presented open source power systems analysis tool pandapower, which allows grid modelling and analysis with a high degree of automation. The developed methodology is applied to three real case study grids from different power system operators. The structural optimization leads to a reduction of investment and operational costs within the planning horizon of up to 56% in the target grids compared to the present grid structures. The successful application of the developed method to a diverse set of case studies demonstrates its general applicability in realistic planning problems.
