Download or read book Ring Papa Ring written by Dean Ackerman Thomson and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of one American family. Several family trees came together in two people, Blanche Klinefelter and Herbert Thomsonour grandparents. As writers, we are two grandsons who have corroborated to tell this story. Like weaving a tapestry, we have tried to interpret the story of our particular family in the context of unfolding European and American history. This is a book about our family and its stories. We write about eras long, long ago as well as times closer to the present day. As two cousins, we have two points-of-view about these times and places. As the French would have it, Vive la diffrence. It is easy to confuse family traditions with history. History is the enemy of memory. The two stalk each other across the fields of the past, claiming the same terrain. Remembered family stories trail off into forgotten places. Each in his own way, we are historians. We have benefited from each others approaches. Historians follow cautiously checking records. Memory can be misleading. But stories always have some basis in the past. The heart of our book is where the recollected stories and history meet.

Download or read book Papa s Story written by David Osborne and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 1944, and war is raging in Europe and Japan. Chuck is still in high school but his dream is to join the army and fight the Germans. One day, in the spring of 1944, he was walking on a lonely road and met someone that caused him to have another dream. This dream began when he met Betty Watson, the bank president's daughter. His good fortune began when, by a chance meeting, the Desoto she was driving had a flat tire. Her misfortune became Chuck's continuing desire to marry the girl of his dreams even though she was a few years older than he was. Although the two became good friends, Betty frequently reminded him that she had a boyfriend and that he was serving his country in the military. That information, although disheartening, did not keep Chuck from pursuing her. Betty and Chuck spent weeks together going places such as the bowling alley, the skating rink and the movies, while both insisted they were not dating. Chuck's older sister spilled the beans about the couple to his father who was not thrilled. His father suggested he date girls in school that were closer to his age but to no avail. Chuck had a one-track mind and that one track was Betty. In conversations between them Betty expressed doubt about a commitment from her soldier boyfriend and that was all the encouragement Chuck needed. After avoiding Chuck for several weeks, Betty confided in him that she was pregnant and her boyfriend, Bobby, was the father of the child. The announcement was a blow to him but Chuck was still not ready to give up on marrying her. However, when Betty's parents found out about her pregnancy, they shipped her off to California to have the baby and place it up for adoption. With one dream dimming the other was still very much alive. He graduated from high school and joined the army. Even though the war in Europe was winding down, the war in Japan was still very much alive. Chuck continued to write letters to Betty but at some point, her letters stopped. Chuck's interest in Betty had to be put on the back burner because of his military duties including guarding a brothel in Japan. After his discharge from the army Chuck attempted to rekindle their story but by that time Betty had married the father of her child. Even though he was still in love with Betty, he felt it was time for him to move on with his life. Where would he go from there?

Download or read book I am Sophie Tucker written by Susan Ecker and published by Easton Studio Press, LLC. This book was released on 2014-10-21 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Features more than 90 beautiful color and 120 black and white period illustrations. Part fairy tale, part crime novel, part rags to riches Hollywood myth, I Am Sophie Tucker tells the outrageous story of one of showbiz’s biggest personalities. From 1906 through the beginning of television, Sophie Tucker and her bawdy, brash, and risqué songs paved the way for performers such as West, Monroe, Midler, Cher, Madonna, and Gaga. “Sophie was like the Forrest Gump of the first half of the 1900s,” says co-author Susan Ecker. “She was close friends with seven presidents, King George VI, young Queen Elizabeth, Chaplin, J. Edgar, Capone, Garland, Jerry Lewis, Sinatra and every other notable of her era.” Tucker tried to get her story published for nine years, without success. Undaunted, Sophie hired half a dozen ghostwriters, but she still had no takers for her no holds barred autobiography. Eventually, Doubleday published a sanitized version in 1945. “After immersing ourselves in Sophie’s papers and surviving friends,” says co-author Lloyd Ecker, “this initial volume is what should have been the actual autobiography of Tucker.” Though she obsessively documented her life, Sophie loved to exaggerate for dramatic effect. Over the years, she told multiple versions of each important event. At the end, not even Sophie knew the difference between truth and tall tale. “This volume is 85% fact,” Lloyd explains. “The other 15% …who knows?” I Am Sophie Tucker puts back all of the delicious bits nixed by Doubleday’s lawyers and throws in other Tucker show business dirt, intrigue, arrests, romance, murder, gangsters, and scandals. Now you can read it for yourself.
Download or read book A BLESSED LIFE Updated written by Linda Anne Monica Schneider and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For once, Linda Anne Monica Schneider now is writing strictly about what she does know: her life and its circumstances. She tells the story of what it has been like for a middle-class American descended from Italian and German immigrants. It is the story of a girl who grew up and found her law vocation during the 50’s through 70’s and who happens to be blind and hard of hearing. During her life, she has used a series of wonderful guide dogs as traveling companions. Like the two discouraged, disillusioned pilgrims who fled from Jerusalem after the death and still disbelieved resurrection of Jesus, she is still in the lifelong process of finding the Lord. This book updates and supersedes the earlier version published in 2012 under a slightly different title.
