Book A Season for Justice

Download or read book A Season for Justice written by David French and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2002 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this gripping, thought-provoking, and sometimes emotional from-the-trenches account of religious persecution in America, Harvard-trained lawyer David French brings a unique perspective to the culture wars. Fighting the small battles in the small places, French has seen first-hand the real-life consequences of an imbalanced legal system and a Christian political approach that sometimes works against the very freedoms it seeks to protect. Through the use of stories, case studies and personal accounts, French traces precisely how Christians fight battles in church, school, and the workplace to preserve the basic right to share the gospel and worship as they choose. A Season for Justice will challenge and move its readers and force them to think clearly and soberly about the real legal attack on Christianity in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive account of one of the twentieth century’s most brutal, yet least examined, episodes of genocide and detention The Killing Season explores one of the largest and swiftest, yet least examined, instances of mass killing and incarceration in the twentieth century—the shocking antileftist purge that gripped Indonesia in 1965–66, leaving some five hundred thousand people dead and more than a million others in detention. An expert in modern Indonesian history, genocide, and human rights, Geoffrey Robinson sets out to account for this violence and to end the troubling silence surrounding it. In doing so, he sheds new light on broad, enduring historical questions. How do we account for instances of systematic mass killing and detention? Why are some of these crimes remembered and punished, while others are forgotten? Based on a rich body of primary and secondary sources, The Killing Season is the definitive account of a pivotal period in Indonesian history.

Book Single Season Sitcoms of the 1990s

Download or read book Single Season Sitcoms of the 1990s written by Bob Leszczak and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2018-09-14 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the "Must See TV" 1990s, Americans enjoyed such immensely popular sitcoms as Friends, Seinfeld, Home Improvement and The Drew Carey Show. Shows that did not make the ratings cut numbered in the hundreds--the emergence of new networks and cable channels airing original programming resulted in a vast increase in short-lived sitcoms over the previous decade. Some of these "flops" were actually quite good and deserved a better fate. The author revisits them--along with the "dramedies" of the day--with detailed entries providing production and broadcast information, along with critical analyses, and recollections by cast and crew members. A subsection highlights sitcoms that returned for an abbreviated second season. Dozens of cast and crew photographs are included.

Book Sports Law in Slovenia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Blaž Tomažin Bolcar
  • Publisher : Kluwer Law International B.V.
  • Release : 2023-09-25
  • ISBN : 9403517174
  • Pages : 115 pages

Download or read book Sports Law in Slovenia written by Blaž Tomažin Bolcar and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of sports law in Slovenia deals with the regulation of sports activity by both public authorities and private sports organizations. The growing internationalization of sports inevitably increases the weight of global regulation, yet each country maintains its own distinct regime of sports law and its own national and local sports organizations. Sports law at a national or organizational level thus gains a growing relevance in comparative law. The book describes and discusses both state-created rules and autonomous self-regulation regarding the variety of economic, social, commercial, cultural, and political aspects of sports activities. Self- regulation manifests itself in the form of by-laws, and encompasses organizational provisions, disciplinary rules, and rules of play. However, the trend towards more professionalism in sports and the growing economic, social and cultural relevance of sports have prompted an increasing reliance on legal rules adopted by public authorities. This form of regulation appears in a variety of legal areas, including criminal law, labour law, commercial law, tax law, competition law, and tort law, and may vary following a particular type or sector of sport. It is in this dual and overlapping context that such much-publicized aspects as doping, sponsoring and media, and responsibility for injuries are legally measured. This monograph fills a gap in the legal literature by giving academics, practitioners, sports organizations, and policy makers access to sports law at this specific level. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Slovenia will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative sports law.
