Book Access Scaffolding

Download or read book Access Scaffolding written by Stewart Champion and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Access scaffolding is the most important element of plant for building, civil engineering and structural engineering contractors. In fact a building or structure cannot be constructed to a height of more than two metres without platforms to work from. These platforms have to be constructed on the site in the minimum of time but nevertheless backed up by accurate calculations and design details. Access Scaffolding brings together for the first time all the elements of scaffolding, providing a comprehensive and unique guide to the best practice in scaffolding, its engineering properties and the hazards involved. The book covers the very wide varieties of structure which have to be built and used in practice, including suspended and completed structures. Diagrammatic details of the commonest types are featured. Access Scaffolding is a unique and indispensible handbook on the subject for contractor's field and design staff, safety inspectors of statutory bodies, and structural, civil and building consulting engineers. It is also a useful resource for students of structural and civil engineering and building degree courses.

Book SCAFFOLDING THE HANDBOOK FOR ESTIMATING and PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Download or read book SCAFFOLDING THE HANDBOOK FOR ESTIMATING and PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE written by Michael "Terry" Marks and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scaffolding is used in many industries every day, all over the world, in the construction industry; for commercial and industrial maintenance; the staging and entertainment markets; the shipbuilding industry; mining; industrial plants, including power plants; hydro and nuclear power facilities; pulp and paper plants; petrochemical plants; oil refineries; and offshore drilling rigs. This book serves as a guide to any person involved with scaffolding in any way so that they will have a training and reference book that they can refer to for both scaffolding product knowledge and for estimating. The first ten chapters of this book include historical data and background information including product knowledge on all types of built-up scaffolding, suspended cradles, and swingstages. The eleventh chapter of this book is dedicated to the procedures that are used for estimating; preparing proposals, bids, and contracts, including systematic instructions on how to calculate the formulas that are most commonly used for estimating materials and labour outputs for scaffolding. Additionally, there are several sections of this book dedicated to temporary enclosures, built-up shoring and falsework, as well as manual and motorized suspended swingstages and cradles. There are very few books available on these topics. To my knowledge there are none dedicated to product knowledge and the estimating of built-up scaffolding systems. No book can be all-inclusive, and this handbook does not claim to be. Much time and research has been put into this book to ensure that as many of the proven estimating methods and design concepts for all types of built-up and suspended scaffolding have been covered. Since one of our greatest assets in any business are our employees, the proper training of all craft and support staff within an industry is of primary importance. Additionally, the continuity in the training given to staff should always be kept up to a measurable standard and continually maintained to an acceptable level.

Download or read book Games of No Chance written by Richard J. Nowakowski and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-11-13 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Nine-Men Morris, in the hands of perfect players, a win for white or for black - or a draw? Can king, rook, and knight always defeat king and two knights in chess? What can Go players learn from economists? What are nimbers, tinies, switches and minies? This book deals with combinatorial games, that is, games not involving chance or hidden information. Their study is at once old and young: though some games, such as chess, have been analyzed for centuries, the first full analysis of a nontrivial combinatorial game (Nim) only appeared in 1902. The first part of this book will be accessible to anyone, regardless of background: it contains introductory expositions, reports of unusual tournaments, and a fascinating article by John H. Conway on the possibly everlasting contest between an angel and a devil. For those who want to delve more deeply, the book also contains combinatorial studies of chess and Go; reports on computer advances such as the solution of Nine-Men Morris and Pentominoes; and theoretical approaches to such problems as games with many players. If you have read and enjoyed Martin Gardner, or if you like to learn and analyze new games, this book is for you.

Book Disciplinary Literacy and Explicit Vocabulary Teaching A whole school approach to closing the attainment gap

Download or read book Disciplinary Literacy and Explicit Vocabulary Teaching A whole school approach to closing the attainment gap written by Kathrine Mortimore and published by John Catt. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Firmly rooted in research evidence of what works within the classroom for our most disadvantaged students, Disciplinary Literacy and Explicit Vocabulary Teaching offers teachers and school leaders practical ways in which those students who are behind in their literacy capabilities can make excellent progress. Building on the work of Geoff Barton in his influential book Don’t Call it Literacy, Kathrine Mortimore outlines the unique literacy challenges posed by specific subject areas for those with weaker literacy skills, and more importantly how these challenges can be addressed and overcome. A student’s GCSE results are vital in giving them the choices they deserve in order to go on to the next stage of their academic careers. This book draws on the success stories of schools and subjects that have made significant improvements in the outcomes of the children they teach, regardless of their starting points. From the inevitable success of Michaela Community school, to the gains made by the English department at Torquay Academy and the rapid reading improvements at Henley Bank, this book draws on both whole school initiatives and subject-specific strategies which have had proven success. This book places a wide and balanced knowledge-rich curriculum at the centre of any school improvement strategy designed to improve literacy, and illustrates the role that all subjects must combine to play in building the vital background knowledge and vocabulary that young people need in order to read independently. This curriculum must then be delivered using those teaching methods that have had the greatest impact on disadvantaged learners, and this book sets out how the methodology of direct and explicit instruction can be adopted within each subject area. Alongside this is a useful summary of staff development and inset which offers practical ways in which teachers’ adoption of these effective strategies can be facilitated. There are also useful sections on creating a whole school dictionary of essential vocabulary, creating a culture of reading and writing, and also those key literacy barriers experienced by those students with some of the most common special educational needs.
