Download or read book Riding the Wind with Liezi written by Ronnie Littlejohn and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-01-02 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Liezi is the forgotten classic of Daoism. Along with the Laozi (Daodejing) and the Zhuangzi, it's been considered a Daoist masterwork since the mid-eighth century, yet unlike those well-read works, the Liezi is little known and receives scant scholarly attention. Nevertheless, the Liezi is an important text that sheds valuable light on the early history of Daoism, particularly the formative period of sectarian Daoism. We do not know exactly what shape the original text took, but what remains is replete with fantastic characters, whimsical tales, paradoxical aphorisms, and philosophically sophisticated reflection on the nature of the world and humanity's place within it. Ultimately, the Liezi sees the world as one of change and indeterminacy. Arguing for the Liezi's historical, philosophical, and literary significance, the contributors to this volume offer a fresh look at this text, using contemporary approaches and providing novel insights. The volume is unique in its attention to both philosophical and religious perspectives.

Download or read book The Wind In My Wheels written by Josie Dew and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2012-08-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young girl, Josie Dew developed an overpowering urge to travel. She also fell out of a fast-moving vehicle and, rather inconveniently, developed a lifelong aversion to cars. Along came her first bicycle, and she has never looked back. Four continents, thirty-six countries and eighty thousand miles worth of astounding adventures, eccentric characters, varied cultures and ever-enduring optimism are the result of her travels. From Saharan locust invasions to tree-climbing goats, and a customs official who wouldn't let her leave India because 'You are making me a very fine wife', her encounters are described with honesty, wit and perception. Strange incidents and bizarre circumstances punctuate her journeys: in Nepal she met a team of Frenchmen running from Paris to China, and a cyclist on his way from one Olympic Games to the next. In Udaipur she was greeted by everyone with the refrain 'Hello Mr. Jamie Bond Octopussy filmed here', whilst her view of post-Ceausescu Romania, a nation suffering and starving, affected her both physically and mentally. THE WIND IN MY WHEELS is informative, illuminating, and ceaselessly amusing.

Download or read book Mysticism in Newburyport written by Peter James Ford and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 966 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second book of lighthearted tales in this seven-book series, under the title: “MYSTICISM IN NEWBURYPORT.” This is the personal journey of just another soul re-awakening to his divinity in this lifetime and reuniting with his true self. Peter was to have many profound spiritual experiences along the Merrimac River in Newburyport, Massachusetts. So, to honor this unique, historic seaport, he has chosen to use this title for his seven-book series on his continued journey of awakening. These personal accounts of Peter’s journey are more of an individual perspective of life, rather than any particular location. ‘Book One’ was introduced at the Miami International Book Fair as a modern-day version of the Herman Hesse classic novel called: “SIDDHARTHA.” After a profound spiritual awakening, through the grace of a Meditation Master, Peter was to personally have the experiences from long nights along the river in meditation, that the fictional character had experienced in Herman’s classic novel. These writings are really a ‘Unique School of Thought’ from Peter’s insights through Nature. As in Newburyport where the river revealed all its secrets. Now, the shifting sands of the Southern Maine coast are revealing its secrets for book two. Peter feels blessed as the treasures from Nature are so abundant in New England coast and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. After growing up in Lynn, Mass, where Peter was involved with heavy alcohol consumption, sixties drug use, arrests, broken bones, violence, motorcycle crashes and high-speed chases. Peter realized a deep love for motorcycles and physical training during his early years. Peter was to end up in the 12-step program at nineteen years old. He entered the program over fifty-years ago in March 1970, and almost immediately had a spiritual awakening. There is a difference between a spiritual awakening and a spiritual experience. On Peter’s path he was to experience both; as did the founder of the first 12-step program. Seven years sober, Peter was in deep emotional and mental pain (experiencing despair) and from this pain (pain is the touchstone of spiritual growth), he was to have his first spiritual experience. Peter now knew deep in his heart that God was actually The Intelligence Behind Nature and also that this intelligence was in his every cell of his body, as it is the giver of all life. It was around twenty-five years sober that Peter’s older brother introduced him to a Meditation Master, who was to become his guide at these higher levels of understanding and evolvement. Peter has said: “That the more he learned about the Ancient Universal Principles, the less he felt he knew.” Peter said: “It is kind of humorous that when you actual attain something worthwhile, what goes along with it is humility, just another soul on the path; another bozo on the bus.” Best Wishes on Your Personal Journey.
