Book When the World Takes the Wind Out of Your Sails

Download or read book When the World Takes the Wind Out of Your Sails written by Rev. James W. Moore and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the words of author James W. Moore: When the world takes the wind out of our sails and we feel down and out, we want someone to help us, to reassure us, to encourage us, to deliver us, to save us. We want some word of “good news.” We want someone with love and strength to hold us up and see us through. That is precisely where the Christian faith comes in, and that is precisely what the Christian faith is about. Sometimes in this life, the world is going to take the wind out of our sails and knock us flat. But even then, we can be courageous because we know that God is always with us and will see us through. As Christians, we have the sure confidence that nothing, not even death, can separate us from God’s presence, God’s care, God’s strength, God’s love, and God’s victory! So as we deal with the troubles of this world, may God help us to know the courage and faith and blessed assurance that come only from trust in our Lord and Savior, the One who has overcome the world. This book contains 12 chapters and a discussion guide.

Download or read book African Navies written by Timothy Stapleton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume focuses on aspects of the understudied theme of African sea-power, including African navies and the engagement of non-African navies with the continent. Africa possesses 48,000 kilometers of coastline, comprising 38 out of 54 of the continent’s states and several strategic choke points for international shipping, such as the Suez Canal, the Gulf of Aden and the Cape of Good Hope. Nevertheless, post-colonial Africa’s small navies and their relations with the navies of external powers have not received much scholarly attention. Focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa, this collection attempts to address this neglect and stimulate further research by offering original chapters related to historical and contemporary themes around Africa’s navies. The historical chapters cover the origin of the Tanzanian, Ethiopian, Nigerian and Ghana navies during the era of decolonization and the Cold War, the asymmetrical naval campaign fought during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-70), and the activities of the Soviet Navy in supporting African states and movements fighting lingering colonialism and white supremacy during the 1970s and 1980s. Focusing on the contemporary situation, other chapters discuss the engagement of the Indian Navy with Africa, the potential role of the Angolan and Mozambican navies in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the transformation and development of the post-apartheid South African Navy, and the challenges and capabilities of African navies in the early twenty-first century. The book concludes by discussing the question of whether African coastal countries need navies. This book will be of much interest to students of naval power, strategic studies, African politics and International Relations. Chapters 1, 2, 6 and 8 of this book are available for free in Open Access at www.taylorfrancis.com. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So when the ship was caught, and could not head into the wind, we let her drive (Acts 27:15). The meaning here is that the storm was so powerful they surrendered control of the ship to the storm. This book has been in the making for over twenty years. I have observed and experienced the storms of life, the unplanned and unexpected changes that blow into our lives and change the direction we were going. Everyone experiences storms in their lives. Storms can be caused by your own conduct or by the actions of others. Storms can be a satanic attack or just the events of life. It is difficult to see Gods plans in the storm. However, if He has a job for us to accomplish for Him, He will bring the circumstances into our lives to take us where He wants us. For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve (Acts 27:23). What a wonderful promise! We do not go through the storms of life alone! He is always with us. Remember the storms of life are never bigger than the God we serve!

Book Peace in the Midst of the Storm

Download or read book Peace in the Midst of the Storm written by Pastor Jimmie Duran and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a society filled with broken people. Over the years the church has had to make a fundamental decision regarding those of us who have faced such trying times. This book, although speaks about divorce, death, financial difficulties, is a book about how someone like me faced one of the most difficult times in my life. This book is not about how unfaithful we are, but rather, how faithful God is. Through some of our darkest times-those caused by our own choices and those allowed by God, we see just how faithful God is. If you are struggling to find answers, if you are struggling to find solutions, this book is written for you. It demonstrates through the Word of God that we could find peace in some of life's most dangerous storms. The storm of death, the storm of divorce, the storm of financial ruin are nothing compared to God's ability to take our broken world and heal it. All too often the church has failed to minister to those of us who are broken, to those of us who have baggage, and to those of us who need deep spiritual, emotional, and psychological healing. This book chronicles my marriage that fell a part when my then wife lost a pregnancy. Watching my marriage fall a part and incapable of fixing it, I journeyed on a 40 day fast. This book is the result of the insight God gave me concerning my hardship. I invite you to take this journey with me and hopefully along the way you discover what I did so many years ago. The very fact that God is faithful and that no matter what you are facing God is on your side.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FIGHTING THE FIGHT OF FAITH"The LORD is a man of war; The LORD is His name." Exodus 15:3As New Testament Christians, our focus must fully be on Christ and His Kingdom. This, however, neither support living a life that is focused on human enemies and the human agents of darkness nor is it in support of the spiritual foolishness that says that the death of Jesus on the cross or our salvation retires us from spiritual warfare; on the contrary, salvation enrols us in the army of Christ and equips us to fight the good fight of faith. Understanding the will of God for us through His Word and the enablement of His Holy Spirit gives us the privilege of knowing how to fight the good fight of faith. The peaceful nature of our calling and assignment as Christians must combine the gentleness of the dove with the cleverness of a serpent. The dove does not go round looking for trouble but the serpent won't be safely trampled upon. We're the offspring of The Lion of the tribe of Judah. Our heritage in Christ puts us in charge on earth and we are to shine the light of Christ to overcome the darkness of God's enemy everywhere we find ourselves. This worldwide crisis is an opportunity for the children of light show the power of God to our world instead of succumbing to the fear-mongering tactics of the enemy of God and the pandemic scare going in our communities. While we are to obey government rules concerning lockdown and the use of masks and sanitizers, we must not allow the spirit of fear to capture us along with the rest of the world."For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" John 5:4, 5We are a different breed and we are put in the world as a major part of God's solution to the problem of the Devil in this world. The lessons in this booklet will help us to understand and dominate amid life's crisis.Whatever you tolerate you will entertain. We are put on earth to rule in the light of God. We must not succumb to being ruled by the darkness of God's enemy."Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle-." Psalm 144:1.

Download or read book Faith in the Midst of Storms written by Anne K Leipego and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As long as we walk the earth, storms of life will hit us, especially when we least expect. A storm can be short lived, prolonged, overwhelming and stressful, however, a storm is seasonal and temporary. It begins and ends. A storm can be caused by the enemy to distract you or plant a seed of doubt in your mind so that you start questioning God's power or presence in your life. You then fail to pick the inherent lesson or see the hidden beauty of a storm. God also causes storms in our lives to prove the genuineness of our faith; to perfect us; complete us and build our character. Storms recreate us in the image and likeness of God, as was meant to be in the beginning. In the midst of a raging storm, do not cry and do not give up. Be still, listen to His small voice and detect His presence. He is always with us be it in the car, workplace, grocery shop and even in the midst of a raging and fiery furnace. ...ONLY BELIEVE... Book Hearing God in Conversation

Download or read book Hearing God in Conversation written by Sam Williamson and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I picked it up out of curiosity and I couldn’t put it down."--Eugene Peterson Christians are comfortable saying that Christianity is about a relationship with God. Yet many might also say that they sense little meaningful relationship with God in their own lives. After all, the foundation of good relationship is communication—-but conversation with God often seems to go only one way. We may sing of walking and talking with God in the garden, His voice falling on our ears, but few have heard that beloved voice themselves. Sam Williamson acknowledges the fundamental human longing to hear God’s voice and offers a hopeful supposition: God is always speaking—-we’ve just never been taught how to recognize His voice. Williamson handles this potentially heady topic with his characteristic straightforwardness and leavening humor. This book deftly bridges the gap between solid biblical theology and practical application, addressing topics such as how to truly pray without ceasing, how to brainstorm with God, how to navigate our emotions, how to answer God’s questions, and how to hear God’s voice for others. Hearing God in Conversation offers simple, step-by-step lessons on how to hear God. Williamson begins with Scripture meditation. He then expands the practice of listening for that voice everywhere—in the checkout line, on the job, in a movie theater, and even in silence. From there, he demonstrates how to hear God’s guidance when making any decision. By the end, readers’ eyes and ears will be opened to the limitless methods through which God speaks.
