Book excerpt: In her prize-winning first novel, Murder Off Mike, Joyce Krieg proved that going behind the scenes of talk radio can be fun, fascinating, and sometimes downright scary. She continues to prove it delightfully in Riding Gain, Shauna J. Bogart's third escapade. When Shauna J. Bogart's former intern is shot to death in the city park, the grandmother of the suspect, another young man, asks Shauna J. for help. The young man tried to run from the murder scene and was shot and seriously wounded by the police. The youth's grandmother is certain he is innocent and Shauna agrees to look into it. A murder-mystery might be just the thing to distract her from her own problems, which are currently numerous. Shauna J.'s boss has added a weekly spot for a self-styled psychic into her program, without even telling her. She's been getting puzzling call-ins from someone who claims to be her high school friend. And she's learned that a network station with an almost-promised job for her thinks her image is "too old." Another offer is in the wind, but does she want it enough to move from her beloved Sacramento to Los Angeles? More important, would Pete Kovacs, her significant other, be willing to make the move? Taking up the case, Shauna J. enlists her willing assistant, Josh, and the pair hunts down every puzzling clue. What they turn up is an evil scheme that touches more and more of the people they encounter and threatens Shauna J., as well as those around her, with sudden death.

Book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition

Download or read book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition written by Denny Emerson and published by Trafalgar Square Books. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revised edition of the inspiring bestseller, now in paperback with new good rider profiles! This book is exactly what you need to become a better rider. It's a smart, honest, on-target kick-in-the-pants, guaranteed to rev your engines as you see how a few changes in your life, a few smart choices and strategic moves, can transform you from a run-of-the-mill rider into a good one. How does Denny Emerson know what makes a good rider? For one thing, he is one—he is the only rider in the world to have won both a gold medal in international eventing and a Tevis Cup buckle in endurance. Plus, he's been around great riders, and taught those on their way to becoming great, for over 40 years. How will what Denny knows help you become a good rider? He's boiled the whole thing down into seven broad "Areas of Choice" that determine whether you are a "gonnabe" or whether you'll be stuck in the "wannabe" category for decades. Examine how your choice of riding sport may or may not be the best for who you are and where you live. Find out how those frustrating hurdles known as "life circumstances" don't necessarily hold you back like you think they do. Learn how to build a strong support team by winning people to your cause and choosing the right teachers and mentors. Analyze your physical self (your body, how it is formed and how you care for it) and your intellectual self (your "horse smarts" and how you are adding to them or not) and apply the results to your "gonna-be-good" equation. Take a good hard look at your partner—your horse—and think critically about his ability to help you attain your riding goals. Discover the nine key character traits of successful riders and how you can learn to call each one of them your own. Along the way you'll read the stories of 23 of the world's top riders from different disciplines and sports—including dressage, reining, driving, show jumping, endurance, hunter/jumper, and eventing—and how they "got good" despite the same kinds of challenges and setbacks you face in your own day-to-day riding. You'll get an inside look at their path to success, as well as their very best tips for how to "make it" in the horse industry.

Book Fine Riding on motivated Horses

Download or read book Fine Riding on motivated Horses written by Uta Gräf and published by FNverlag. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether it be dressage, showjumping, eventing or hobby riding, our common goal is to enjoy riding, treat our horses well and reach personal goals. To demonstrate how highly successful competitive sport can indeed go hand in hand with a close-to-nature, horse-friendly way of caring for and looking after horses, we provide insights into the personal training and stable management concepts of Uta Graef. The authors will show everything that goes into this approach, including, for example, the structure of training, supporting horses in a way which respects their age, as well as general care and behaviour around horses. But you as a rider are also very important! How can you change your attitude towards horses in a positive way? How can you maintain your pleasure in riding or, if lost, win it back? How can it be possible to ride with less stress in future? The stable culture and the way classes and lessons are structured also play an important role in ensuring you enjoy your riding. The authors will show what influences each and every rider can optimise in order to reach the goal of fine riding on motivated horses. The book will encourage you to follow a horse-friendly path towards personal success, adhering to the principles of classical training and, step by step, working up towards your personal goals. This does not necessarily have to be competitive success, but it could also simply be the desire for fine riding on motivated horses. Therefore, the authors of this book wish to emphasise what kind of thought processes and which principles are particularly suitable for a positive influence on fine riding, rather than just listing training movements and the requirements at different levels. It is not a classical textbook, but rather a helpful and pleasant read with many 'behind the scenes' insights for riders of all disciplines and of all levels.

Book A Geography of Horse Riding

Download or read book A Geography of Horse Riding written by Cheryl Nosworthy and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-11 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth, qualitative exploration of the practice of horse-riding by “disabled” and “non-disabled” riders and their horses. Situated as part of an “affective turn” within human geography, creative and original use is made of poststructuralist theory to bring together animal studies and disability studies in order to decentre the human as we think about the social. Eighteen months of multi-sited performance ethnography “on the hoof” were conducted with riders recruited from local riding schools, an internet forum and three Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) groups. The study employed various methods, including diary-keeping, participant observation and video-recording of riding activities, in order to capture moments of horse-human relating. Through these methods, the embodied expressions of horses are taken seriously as demonstrative of their individual thoughts and intentions.
