Hopalong Cassidy is a cowboy hero created by the author Clarence Mulford, who wrote a series of popular short stories and many novels based on the character. In his early writings, Mulford portrayed the character as rude, dangerous, and rough-talking. He had a wooden leg which caused him to walk with a little "hop", hence the nickname. The character—as played by movie actor William Boyd in films adapted from Mulford's books—was transformed into a clean-cut, sarsaparilla-drinking hero. Sixty-six popular films appeared. The Coming of Cassidy and Others Hopalong Cassidy Bar-20 Days Buck Peters, Ranchman The Bar-20 Three Tex Clarence E. Mulford (1883–1956) created Hopalong Cassidy in 1904 while living in Fryeburg, Maine, and the many short stories and 28 novels were adapted to radio, feature film, television, and comic books, often deviating significantly from the original stories, especially in the character's traits. But more than just writing a very popular series of Westerns, Mulford recreated an entire detailed and authentic world filled with characters drawn from his extensive library research.

  • Pages : 287 pages

Download or read book Ride the Ranger Winds written by E. Richard Womack and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From barroom brawls to Main Street shootouts, Ride the Ranger Winds offers non-stop action of true to life Texas Rangers. From Captain Beasley to Laughlin McFarland and all the other Ranger Recruits, their one common denominator was their own personal integrity and straight forward approach to the dangerous life on the frontier. See how the author grasps the savagery of the times in the Ranger's raw dealings with murderers, rapists, cattle rustlers, outlaws and Indians. In an era with little, or no, political influence, the action is sometimes brutal and crude. Intertwined with the perils of the untamed west, romance is incorporated into the daily lives of the characters. Like mythical sailors with a girl in every port, the Rangers had their romantic interludes while on the trail of desperados. Follow Laughlin as he grapples with his life on the trail and his decision whether to marry Melissa and quit the Rangers, or continue his dangerous life on the Range.......Does he find an acceptable compromise?

  • Pages : 357 pages

Download or read book Spatial Cognition VII written by Christoph Hölscher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-08-09 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the seventh volume of a series of books on fundamental research in spatial cognition. As with past volumes, the research presented here spans a broad range of research traditions, for spatial cognition concerns not just the basic spatial behavior of biological and artificial agents, but also the reasoning processes that allow spatial planning across broad spatial and temporal scales. Spatial information is critical for coordinated action and thus agents interacting with objects and moving among objects must be able to perceive spatial relations, learn about these relations, and act on them, or store the information for later use, either by themselves or communicated to others. Research on this problem has included both psychology, which works to understand how humans and other mobile organisms solve these problems, and computer science, which considers the nature of the information available in the world and a formal consideration of how these problems might be solved. Research on human spatial cognition also involves the application of representations and processes that may have evolved to handle object and location information to reasoning about higher-order problems, such as displaying non-spatial information in diagrams. Thus, work in s- tial cognition extends beyond psychology and computer science into many disciplines including geography and education. The Spatial Cognition conference offers one of the few forums for consideration of the issues spanning this broad academic range.
