Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Woodbrook Hunt Club, cofounded in 1926 by Maj. J. H. Mathews and Thornwood Estate superintendent Thomas Bryan, is the oldest fox-hunting club west of the Mississippi. Horses have long played an important historical role on the prairies south of Tacoma. The Nisqually Indians were the first to ride horses on the Nisqually Prairie in the early 1800s, followed by the Hudsons Bay Company and horse-race activities in the 1840s. The establishment of Fort Lewis in 1917 has protected this unique prairie ecosystem, resulting in a longstanding partnership with the Woodbrook Hunt Club. Today the club continues its rich tradition on the last remaining three percent of native prairie in the Puget Sound Corridor.

Book excerpt: During the 1930s in the United States, the Works Progress Administration developed the Federal Writers’ Project to support writers and artists while making a national effort to document the country’s shared history and culture. The American Guide series consists of individual guides to each of the states. Little-known authors—many of whom would later become celebrated literary figures—were commissioned to write these important books. John Steinbeck, Saul Bellow, Zora Neale Hurston, and Ralph Ellison are among the more than 6,000 writers, editors, historians, and researchers who documented this celebration of local histories. Photographs, drawings, driving tours, detailed descriptions of towns, and rich cultural details exhibit each state’s unique flavor. The WPA Guide to Georgia describes the rich historical and cultural background of America’s Peach State. With varied and interesting photos, the guide gives readers a real taste as to what sweet southern living was like in the 1940’s, all the way from the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains down to the roaring Mississippi River valley.

Book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition

Download or read book How Good Riders Get Good New Edition written by Denny Emerson and published by Trafalgar Square Books. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revised edition of the inspiring bestseller, now in paperback with new good rider profiles! This book is exactly what you need to become a better rider. It's a smart, honest, on-target kick-in-the-pants, guaranteed to rev your engines as you see how a few changes in your life, a few smart choices and strategic moves, can transform you from a run-of-the-mill rider into a good one. How does Denny Emerson know what makes a good rider? For one thing, he is one—he is the only rider in the world to have won both a gold medal in international eventing and a Tevis Cup buckle in endurance. Plus, he's been around great riders, and taught those on their way to becoming great, for over 40 years. How will what Denny knows help you become a good rider? He's boiled the whole thing down into seven broad "Areas of Choice" that determine whether you are a "gonnabe" or whether you'll be stuck in the "wannabe" category for decades. Examine how your choice of riding sport may or may not be the best for who you are and where you live. Find out how those frustrating hurdles known as "life circumstances" don't necessarily hold you back like you think they do. Learn how to build a strong support team by winning people to your cause and choosing the right teachers and mentors. Analyze your physical self (your body, how it is formed and how you care for it) and your intellectual self (your "horse smarts" and how you are adding to them or not) and apply the results to your "gonna-be-good" equation. Take a good hard look at your partner—your horse—and think critically about his ability to help you attain your riding goals. Discover the nine key character traits of successful riders and how you can learn to call each one of them your own. Along the way you'll read the stories of 23 of the world's top riders from different disciplines and sports—including dressage, reining, driving, show jumping, endurance, hunter/jumper, and eventing—and how they "got good" despite the same kinds of challenges and setbacks you face in your own day-to-day riding. You'll get an inside look at their path to success, as well as their very best tips for how to "make it" in the horse industry.

Book The Horse and His Rider

Download or read book The Horse and His Rider written by Charmazelle Bryant and published by Partridge Africa. This book was released on 2014-09-08 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In presenting this book, which is a true story, I relate a dramatic chain of events featuring dynamic miracles. During a time frame of just over half a year, pertinent scriptures were quickened to me at a time of impending bankruptcy, after trials of childhood trauma, coping pshychologically with a twenty year old incurable wound, and the need for deliverance from evil spirits. The first chapter of this testimony presents the mystery that the names of books, and the numbers of chapter and verse of scriptures spontaneously came to mind twice in relatively quick succession when I travailed before God to get a word.. I rejected the first word because it baffled me and seemed irrelevant; therefore I tried again, only to receive a different text with exactly the same meaning, which, I believe, defied co-incidence: .....and whoever will not receive you, nor heed your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Matthew 10:14 (italics mine) similar text from Luke 9:5 After recording the events of this book, I dwelt on amplifying the personification of the word city in an unrelated scripture: .....and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken, Isaiah 62:12 A mystery is thus unfolded to those of my readers, who will embrace this testimony of victory in the spirit and echo the words which are the theme of this book, the song of praise and thanksgiving that Moses sang when God brought the Israelites safely through the Red Sea: Sing unto the Lord For He has triumphed gloriously The horse and his rider Hath He thrown into the sea Exodus 15:1
