Book The Rider on the White Horse

Download or read book The Rider on the White Horse written by Theodor Storm and published by Signet Classics. This book was released on 1917 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Rider on the White Horse" begins as a ghost story. A traveler finds himself caught in dangerously rough weather. On an island just offshore he glimpses the specter of a rider on a white horse rising and plunging in the wind and rain. Taking shelter at a local inn, the traveler mentions the apparition, and the local schoolmaster volunteers a story. It is a tale of ambition, of a young man, Hauke Heien, who is out not only to make a name for himself but to remake the world; of love and family, as Hauke and his wife try to come to terms with their late-born child's mental retardation; and of politics, as the community fights back against Hauke's initiatives. It is a story, too, about the crisis of faith, of wanting and missing the presence of the divine, and of the persistence of superstition. It is an appealingly matter-of-fact picture of rural life, a harrowing glimpse of spiritual isolation, and a stark vision of the violence of the natural world. Finally, it is a story about the basis of civilization in the act of human sacrifice. Anticipating "Lord of the Flies" and "The Lottery," Theodor Storm's novella, limpidly translated by the American poet James Wright, is not just the ghost story it first appears to be but an economical and gripping dramatization of some of the bloody questions that haunt the disenchanted modern world.

Book excerpt: HOW WOULD YOU PREPARE FOR THE LAST BATTLE, THE FINAL CLASH BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL? Since the unveiling battle six months ago, the mysteries of the cloud have continued to unfold for the family. But their most significant question of all has yet to be answered-the Rider's earthly identity. The revelation that he not only flew over the clouds but earth too, and that he had an earth-name he would reveal soon, has dominated their thinking since the time he appeared in Mark's hospital room after the unveiling battle. However, months have gone by and his identity remains a mystery. Discouragement has settled over the family, and even Jake, who refused to give up his search, is now losing hope. Bob's passing has come and gone, and the hope of uncovering the Rider's identity has faded as well. As complacency turned to curiosity in My White Horse and the Rider's Cloud, desperation turns to determination in My White Horse and the Rider's Unveiling as the family finds they cannot bury their desire to know the truth about the Rider. Who is he? What is his name? And how do they find him on earth? Answers unfold in this second book of the My White Horse series, and though they are not fully aware of it, the family's preparation for the last battle is in full swing. Rose Murdock was seventeen years old when she met the Lord while sitting at the kitchen table of a new friend and mentor who was twice her age. She would sit at this table every week for years to come and learn the Bible. For many years she wrote stories, skits, and object lessons to teach young people biblical truths. She learned to find a balanced mix of accuracy, simplicity, and fun. During this time Rose had two children of her own. Eventually, her husband Tim began pastoring, and she joined him in ministry. In 2021 Rose retired from a thirty-year career as a police and fire dispatcher during which time she had encountered a wide variety of life situations from critical to humorous. Today, Rose desires to see families strengthened. First through their personal relationships with the Lord, and then with each other. Visit her website at Bibleseed.org.

Book Riding Lucifer s Line

Download or read book Riding Lucifer s Line written by Bob Alexander and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas-Mexico border is trouble. Haphazardly splashing across the meandering Rio Grande into Mexico is--or at least can be--risky business, hazardous to one's health and well-being. Kirby W. Dendy, the Chief of Texas Rangers, corroborates the sobering reality: "As their predecessors for over one hundred forty years before them did, today's Texas Rangers continue to battle violence and transnational criminals along the Texas-Mexico border." In Riding Lucifer's Line, Bob Alexander, in his characteristic storytelling style, surveys the personal tragedies of twenty-five Texas Rangers who made the ultimate sacrifice as they scouted and enforced laws throughout borderland counties adjacent to the Rio Grande. The timeframe commences in 1874 with formation of the Frontier Battalion, which is when the Texas Rangers were actually institutionalized as a law enforcing entity, and concludes with the last known Texas Ranger death along the border in 1921. Alexander also discusses the transition of the Rangers in two introductory sections: "The Frontier Battalion Era, 1874-1901" and "The Ranger Force Era, 1901-1935," wherein he follows Texas Rangers moving from an epochal narrative of the Old West to more modern, technological times. Written absent a preprogrammed agenda, Riding Lucifer's Line is legitimate history. Adhering to facts, the author is not hesitant to challenge and shatter stale Texas Ranger mythology. Likewise, Alexander confronts head-on many of those critical Texas Ranger histories relying on innuendo and gossip and anecdotal accounts, at the expense of sustainable evidence--writings often plagued with a deficiency of rational thinking and common sense. Riding Lucifer's Line is illustrated with sixty remarkable old-time photographs. Relying heavily on archived Texas Ranger documents, the lively text is authenticated with more than one thousand comprehensive endnotes.

Book The Book of Revelation from Alpha to Omega

Download or read book The Book of Revelation from Alpha to Omega written by Roy Martin and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega is like no other book you have ever read. It is a book that will take you through the full spectrum of your emotions. It will make you want to love, hate, fight, and cry—all at the same time. It reveals the 'people side' of the book in the Bible that we call Revelations. Contrary to what you might believe about God, he is people oriented. People are the only creatures that God made in his own image. So it stands to reason that people are dear to God's heart. The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega is primarily about people. It is about those things that God desires to do for people. It is about those things that people will have to deal with if they ignore what God is offering them. It is about those things that have happened, will happen, and are now happening to all nations, tribes, and tongues. It is about the mark of the beast—who the beast is, what the mark is, and the purpose for the mark. It is about the war being fought in the arena of commerce, a war about which God is trying to warn us in order for us to be prepared. It is like a trumpet calling people to prepare for battle, which destined to be awesome, the likes of which the world has never seen heretofore. The author of The Book of Revelation From Alpha to Omega realizes that some will disagree with what he has written. He respects your rights to disagree, but he does not offer a refund of the purchase price if you disagree with what he has written.

Book excerpt: The kingdom of heaven is at hand, which means you should be rejoicing—but only if you’ll be among those to survive the End of Days. Harvey E. One-Wolf presents an in-depth study of God’s Word, seeking to explain why and when the end of days will occur in this detailed study. By examining the life of Isaac Newton, who sought knowledge and truth from the originator of the universe through the Holy Scriptures, he answers questions such as: • How soon will the End of Days be? • What will we see leading up to it? • Has the day of wrath already started? • What can individuals do to ensure they are among God’s chosen? Newton—as well as other great thinkers whose ideas are highlighted in this book—believed the universe was designed by a perfect intelligence, rather than being haphazard and arbitrarily contrived, as many finite thinkers believe today. As every day passes, we move closer to the day of Satan’s authority and the end of the world. Learn the pathways that lead to the living waters of everlasting life with A Visionary’s Vision.
