Book Riding for the Brand

Download or read book Riding for the Brand written by Jim Whitt and published by Lariat Press. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Riding for the Brand is a western that's set in the future. It's a short novel about leadership, human motivation and change. The story revolves around two men: Bob Fooshee, a freelance writer, and Burns Marcus, a rancher who builds a business empire. The year is 2030, and Fooshee is dispatched by a magazine to write about Marcus, whose ranch was near bankruptcy 25 years earlier. It was then that Marcus, searching for answers, attended the cattlemen's convention in San Antonio and heard a speaker who provoked him to radically change the way he approached his business. This was the catalyst that led Marcus to start Diamond Enterprises, which becomes the model organization of the 21st century. While interviewing Burns at his ranch in Oklahoma, Bob rides pasture, ropes a few steers and discovers the key to Burns Marcus' success - the power of purposeful leadership.

Book Riding for the Brand

Download or read book Riding for the Brand written by Michael Pettit and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Folks all over West Texas and eastern New Mexico will tell you: Cowdens have been ranching here for as long as anyone can remember. The Cowdens, in fact, have been at the forefront of the cattle business for 150 years. Arriving in Texas in the 1850s, Cowden men and women raised and trailed cattle, sought out water and better grazing land, tangled with Comanches—and helped extend the western line of Anglo settlement as they raised their families. They eventually moved to New Mexico, where they established the renowned JAL Ranch. Award-winning writer Michael Pettit, a Cowden descendant and former rancher, offers a compelling portrait of this genuine American ranching family. Riding for the Brand spans six generations and two states to serve up a real slice of the Old West, complete with cowboys and Indians, cattle and buffalo, open range and barbed wire. Pettit skillfully blends family saga with an urbanite’s firsthand look at life on today’s 50,000-acre Cowden Ranch, where the one dependable factor is the constant wind. Riding for the Brand traces the evolution of the Texas and New Mexico cattle business from the era of intimate ranching communities to today’s oil-enriched or corporate operations. But it’s also the story of one man’s search for identity through his connections to a family, a place, and a way of life.

Jed Asbury was one such journeyman, taking on the identity of a dead person. Allen Ring was another: He’d won his plot of land in a card game only to find he had to win again with a gun. Book You Can t Ride Two Horses with One Ass

Download or read book You Can t Ride Two Horses with One Ass written by Kurt Bartolich and published by . This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the biggest threat to your brand today? Most leaders think its disruption, competition, cyber attacks or the economy. The truth is the real enemy is between your ears. Thinking outside the box, scaling and partnerships can sabotage your brand. Even your company mission can undermine it. You Can't Ride Two Horses With One Ass turns conventional brand thinking on its ear and teaches you a new ethos: How to grow your business by protecting your brand. Much like category-killers Southwest Airlines, Google and many of the author's own clients do, you'll learn how to think like a brand, not a business; be more desirable, instead of more available; detect organizational blind spots that can subvert the brand; and build a bridge between company purpose and customer promise-the missing link to exceptional cultural engagement and brand fidelity.

Book The Ride of a Lifetime

Download or read book The Ride of a Lifetime written by Robert Iger and published by Random House. This book was released on 2019-09-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A memoir of leadership and success: The executive chairman of Disney, Time’s 2019 businessperson of the year, shares the ideas and values he embraced during his fifteen years as CEO while reinventing one of the world’s most beloved companies and inspiring the people who bring the magic to life. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. His vision came down to three clear ideas: Recommit to the concept that quality matters, embrace technology instead of fighting it, and think bigger—think global—and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets. Today, Disney is the largest, most admired media company in the world, counting Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox among its properties. Its value is nearly five times what it was when Iger took over, and he is recognized as one of the most innovative and successful CEOs of our era. In The Ride of a Lifetime, Robert Iger shares the lessons he learned while running Disney and leading its 220,000-plus employees, and he explores the principles that are necessary for true leadership, including: • Optimism. Even in the face of difficulty, an optimistic leader will find the path toward the best possible outcome and focus on that, rather than give in to pessimism and blaming. • Courage. Leaders have to be willing to take risks and place big bets. Fear of failure destroys creativity. • Decisiveness. All decisions, no matter how difficult, can be made on a timely basis. Indecisiveness is both wasteful and destructive to morale. • Fairness. Treat people decently, with empathy, and be accessible to them. This book is about the relentless curiosity that has driven Iger for forty-five years, since the day he started as the lowliest studio grunt at ABC. It’s also about thoughtfulness and respect, and a decency-over-dollars approach that has become the bedrock of every project and partnership Iger pursues, from a deep friendship with Steve Jobs in his final years to an abiding love of the Star Wars mythology. “The ideas in this book strike me as universal” Iger writes. “Not just to the aspiring CEOs of the world, but to anyone wanting to feel less fearful, more confidently themselves, as they navigate their professional and even personal lives.”

Meet Jane. Newly arrived to Birmingham, Alabama, Jane is a broke dog-walker in Thornfield Estates––a gated community full of McMansions, shiny SUVs, and bored housewives. The kind of place where no one will notice if Jane lifts the discarded tchotchkes and jewelry off the side tables of her well-heeled clients. Where no one will think to ask if Jane is her real name. But her luck changes when she meets Eddie Rochester. Recently widowed, Eddie is Thornfield Estates’ most mysterious resident. His wife, Bea, drowned in a boating accident with her best friend, their bodies lost to the deep. Jane can’t help but see an opportunity in Eddie––not only is he rich, brooding, and handsome, he could also offer her the kind of protection she’s always yearned for. Yet as Jane and Eddie fall for each other, Jane is increasingly haunted by the legend of Bea, an ambitious beauty with a rags-to-riches origin story, who launched a wildly successful southern lifestyle brand. How can she, plain Jane, ever measure up? And can she win Eddie’s heart before her past––or his––catches up to her? With delicious suspense, incisive wit, and a fresh, feminist sensibility, The Wife Upstairs flips the script on a timeless tale of forbidden romance, ill-advised attraction, and a wife who just won’t stay buried. In this vivid reimagining of one of literature’s most twisted love triangles, which Mrs. Rochester will get her happy ending?

Book Cowboy Ethics

Download or read book Cowboy Ethics written by James P. Owen and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new approach to business ethics is quietly taking hold in executive suites and corporate boardrooms across America. Frustrated by an epidemic of misbehavior at all employee levels, management teams are getting back to basics—back to the idea that personal character and individual responsibility are the ultimate keys to integrity, just as they were back in the days of the Open Range. A decade ago, the book Cowboy Ethics first inspired businesspeople to look to the Code of the West. Once they did, they discovered that its simple, common-sense principles can be more effective guides to business leadership than a truckload of corporate mission statements, rules, and ethics manuals. “Cowboys are role models because they live by a code,” says author James P. Owen. “They show us what it means to stand for something, and to strive every day to make your actions line up with your beliefs. And isn’t that as good a definition of integrity as you can find?” In the years since, the book’s “Ten Principles to Live By” have been embraced by scores of companies, universities, and even a state government. This updated Tenth Anniversary hardcover edition traces the evolution of this grassroots business movement in brand-new chapters while preserving the inspirational lessons and stunning photography of the original. It’s ideal for corporate gifts, the new graduate, business students, or any career person who cares about doing the right thing.

Book excerpt: Terry's book, What a Ride! is a must read for any cowboy, young or old. It's laced with danger, wit, and Terry's brand of humor. What a Ride! is a lot of fun. Even though Terry never made the National Finals Rodeo, he was a very successful bull rider. National Finals Rodeo qualifications don't justify or quantify a bull riding career nor should it! I trust Terry totally for his expertise in bull riding instruction. He's a great role model and prayer warrior. The Holland's are a wonderful family who love the Lord Jesus and live life to its fullest. While reading the book, I found myself with sweaty palms and that feeling only bull riders know. I was continually amazed at how accurately Terry describes all the emotions that occur while anticipating and executing a ride-fear, joy, excitement. Wow! Do yourself a favor and give it a read-you won't be disappointed. Don Gay-Eight time PRCA World Champion Bull Rider, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1984. * * * Terry Holland and I have been friends since 1985. I admire him for his love and faithfulness to Debbie Jo. His life is an example to his daughter Khakie, of what godly manhood looks like. Besides being a great bull rider, he has always had an extraordinary gift for telling a story. Terry has told stories that have made my sides hurt from laughter as well as stories about his relationship with God and compassion for people that have brought tears to my eyes. Reading through the pages of What A Ride! stirred up in me the very reason I felt so passionate about riding bulls and reminded me of what has kept me so close to the sport. Many people's lives have been affected because of having Terry a part in them. Terry is a shining example of what Jesus meant when he said in John 15:8, "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." Enjoy reading What A Ride! and you'll understand why thousands of men have followed the dream of riding bulls. Cody Custer-PRCA World Champion Bull Rider, 1992
