Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Riddles, Rhyme and Alliteration" is an activity-based resource that encourages children aged 4-7 years to concentrate, listen to and discriminate between different speech sounds. Teachers can use the material separately or as part of a phonics programme, as each activity has the flexibility to be used with individuals, groups or whole classes. Older children who have listening and auditory discrimination difficulties, poor listening skills, and mild to moderate hearing loss or 'glue ear' can also benefit from using the material. Each of the eighteen sections is based on a particular phoneme and includes two or three pages of illustrations to accompany the activities. The activities are photocopiable and include: riddles which can be solved with the help of the picture pages; exercises on alliteration and rhyming words; tongue twisters; a story containing words beginning with the target phonemes; and a puzzle worksheet based on some of the words from the picture pages. All of the activities have clear instructions and are presented orally by the teacher, except the puzzle worksheets that encourage the child to work independently. The picture pages can also be coloured in at school or at home to help consolidate what has been taught. Written by a teacher for teachers, "Riddles, Rhyme and Alliteration" will prove a welcome resource for those who have limited time for preparation.

Book A Feast of Rhyme Rhythm and Song

Download or read book A Feast of Rhyme Rhythm and Song written by Nancy Cecil and published by Portage & Main Press. This book was released on 2010-02-05 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LEVEL: Grades PreK–1A Feast of Rhyme, Rhythm, and Song presents an interactive and engaging approach to teaching phonemic awareness – an essential foundation for later reading success. Using sound, music, and rhythm activities, young children develop the ability to hear inside a word – to hear specific sounds, identify the sequence of sounds in words, and understand the role sounds, or phonemes, play in word recognition. Lessons are presented sequentially, through the developmental steps involved in acquiring phonemic awareness. The process begins with the rudimentary awareness that sounds exist, and progresses in complexity to the final insight that sounds within words can be manipulated, deleted, replaced, or added. In this resource, you will find:- easy-to-follow, step-by-step lesson plans - variations for or extensions of the activities - ongoing assessment for each lesson - notations and lyrics for all the songs - templates for a full set of picture cards on CD - a Phonemic Awareness Assessment Tool - an outline of music-content standards applicable to most provinces (and states) The authors of A Feast of Rhyme, Rhythm, and Song believe that children who have experienced the joyful phonemic awareness and music activities contained in this book will be primed and ready for this next step in the remarkable journey of learning to read.
