Book Rituale im Jahreskreis

Download or read book Rituale im Jahreskreis written by Roswitha Stark and published by Mankau-Verlag GmbH. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To which extent is ritual involved in the formation of collective and personal identities? What are the mechanisms that are responsible for the (mostly pre-reflexive) constitution of identity in ritual; and - equally important - what are the strategies employed by social actors to actively influence and enhance these constitutive processes? In order to find answers to these essential questions, authors refer to case studies from their respective areas of field research such as Japan, Morocco, Taiwan, Korea, India, and the Azores. Kpping is professor of anthropology at the Institute of Ethnology at Heidelberg University and also guest-professor at Goldsmith College London. His research focusses on popular and folk-religious practices in Japan through the lens of performance theories. Leistle is a doctoral candidate at the Institute of Ethnology at Heidelberg University. In his research focussing on Moroocan trance rituals he concentrates on theories of the phenomenology of perception.

Book The Power of Discourse in Ritual Performance

Download or read book The Power of Discourse in Ritual Performance written by Ulrich Demmer and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2007 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the ways discourse is used in ritual performances as an important medium of power, enabling speakers/actors to construct, redefine and transform interpersonal relationships, cultural concepts and worldviews. The various case studies gathered here, from South Asia, South East Asia, Africa and South America, show that recent developments in linguistic anthropology, ritual theory and performance studies provide new conceptual tools to take a fresh look at these issues. Foregrounding pragmatic approaches to language and discourse, they explore the social dynamics of rhetorical discourse, text and context, normativity and creativity, the poetics of dialogue and speech, as well as the manifold interactions of speakers, addressees and audience. The volume thus embraces both the micro-level of speech activities as well as the macro-level of social and political relationships and brings out the subtle workings of control, authority, and power in situations marked as ritual. The contributions, all based on extensive fieldwork, include many concrete samples of speech and discourse which give an authentic impression of the different voices and make for vivid reading.

It crosses borders between different areas of classical studies by investigating the various forms of impact that war had on the ancient home front. To this end, the book deploys a variety of methodological approaches that shed light on several aspects of the home front. These draw on advances made in the fields of psychology, literature, history, social sciences and religious studies. The volume discusses the impact of war on the civilian communities in terms of its effects above all on the level of the social and religious sphere.

Book Symposium on High Energy Electrons

Download or read book Symposium on High Energy Electrons written by Adolf Zuppinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Owing to the tremendously rapid development of the sciences publi cations of congresses and meetings are frequently out-of-date by the time they appear in print. We endeavoured to publish the report of the Sym posium in Montreux in as short a time as possible. In order to reduce the cost, the manuscripts hat to be confined to few pages at the most and it was absolutely necessary to limit the number of illustrations. For the Symposium in question we invited all those authors of whom we knew they were acquainted with the medicinal application of fast elec trons to take part in a discussion covering their particular field of interest. Other lectures were also admitted without exception. Unfortunately on account of various extrinsic reasons the time between the application to take part in the Symposium and the Meeting itself was far too short which fact prevented some well-known scientists from coming to Montreux. In cases where no speaker was to be found for a certain subject Bernese and Milano Institutes (Doc. Dr. med. P. L. CaVA) filled the gap whenever and wherever possible.

Download or read book Efficacy of Sound written by Ruthie Meadows and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2023-11-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book-length ethnographic study on music and Ifá divination in Cuba and Nigeria. Hailing from Cuba, Nigeria, and various sites across Latin America and the Caribbean, Ifá missionary-practitioners are transforming the landscape of Ifá divination and deity (òrìṣà/oricha) worship through transatlantic travel and reconnection. In Cuba, where Ifá and Santería emerged as an interrelated, Yorùbá-inspired ritual complex, worshippers are driven to “African traditionalism” by its promise of efficacy: they find Yorùbá approaches more powerful, potent, and efficacious. In the first book-length study on music and Ifá, Ruthie Meadows draws on extensive, multisited fieldwork in Cuba and Yorùbáland, Nigeria, to examine the controversial “Nigerian-style” ritual movement in Cuban Ifá divination. Meadows uses feminist and queer of color theory along with critical studies of Africanity to excavate the relation between utility and affect within translocal ritual music circulations. Meadows traces how translocal Ifá priestesses (ìyánífá), female batá drummers (bataleras), and priests (babaláwo) harness Yorùbá-centric approaches to ritual music and sound to heighten efficacy, achieve desired ritual outcomes, and reshape the conditions of their lives. Within a contentious religious landscape marked by the idiosyncrasies of revolutionary state policy, Nigerian-style Ifá-Òrìṣà is leveraged to transform femininity and masculinity, state religious policy, and transatlantic ritual authority on the island.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Was geschah im 19.
