Book Rheology of Drag Reducing Fluids

Download or read book Rheology of Drag Reducing Fluids written by Aroon Shenoy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains theoretical derivations and presents expressions for fluid and convective turbulent flow of mildly elastic fluids in various internal and external flow situations involving different types of geometries, such as the smooth/rough circular pipes, annular ducts, curved tubes, vertical flat plates, and channels. Understanding the methodology of the analyses facilitates appreciation for the rationale used for deriving expressions of parameters relevant to the turbulent flow of mildly elastic fluids. This knowledge serves as a driving force for developing new ideas, investigating new situations, and extending theoretical analyses to other unexplored areas of the rheology of mildly elastic drag reducing fluids. The book suits a range of functions--it can be used to teach elective upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses for chemical engineers, material scientists, mechanical engineers, and polymer scientists; guide researchers unexposed to this alluring and interesting area of drag reduction; and serve as a reference to all who want to explore and expand the areas dealt with in this book.

Book Drag Reduction of Turbulent Flows by Additives

Download or read book Drag Reduction of Turbulent Flows by Additives written by A. Gyr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drag Reduction of Turbulent Flows by Additives is the first treatment of the subject in book form. The treatment is extremely broad, ranging from physicochemical to hydromechanical aspects. The book shows how fibres, polymer molecules or surfactants at very dilute concentrations can reduce the drag of turbulent flow, leading to energy savings. The dilute solutions are considered in terms of the physical chemistry and rheology, and the properties of turbulent flows are presented in sufficient detail to explain the various interaction mechanisms. Audience: Those active in fundamental research on turbulence and those seeking to apply the effects described. Fluid mechanical engineers, rheologists, those interested in energy saving methods, or in any other application in which the flow rate in turbulent flow should be increased.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rheology of filled polymer systems is an ever expanding field in the polymer industry today. Using a concise, practical and simple format this comprehensive work explains the concepts behind filled polymer systems and the rheological techniques involved in studying their behaviour. Aware that the readers of the book may come from differing background, the first three chapters familiarize the reader with the basics about polymers, fillers and physicochemical interactions between them, rheology and rheometry. Covering such topics as preparation of filled polymer systems, steady shear viscous properties and extentional flow properties, this book covers the areas of importance from an introductory level through to more complex issues.

Book Effect of Molecular Weight and Segmental Constitution on the Drag Reduction of Water Soluble Polymers

Download or read book Effect of Molecular Weight and Segmental Constitution on the Drag Reduction of Water Soluble Polymers written by Gail T. Pruitt and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tube flow data on some 16 polymers indicate that drag reduction is a function of molecular contour length, segmental side groups, concentration, pipe diameter and Reynolds number. The maximum drag reduction actually obtained with any drag reducing polymer is approximately 80% of that which would be obtained if completely laminar flow was maintained. A relationship that correlates drag reduction, concentration and molecular dimensions is suggested for a constant Reynolds number and pipe size. It infers that a critical concentration of polymer exists, below which no drag reduction occurs. Also for some given concentrations and pipe size a critical velocity exists below which no drag reduction occurs. Rheological data for two polymer solutions are presented in terms of elastic energy. Book Experimental Studies on the Physics and Technology of Polymer Drag Reduction

Download or read book Experimental Studies on the Physics and Technology of Polymer Drag Reduction written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental studies of polymer drag-reduction were carried out in the laboratory of Thomas J. Hanratty. Companion studies were carried out in the polymer laboratory of Anthony J. McHugh so that the performance of drag-reducing polymer solutions can be related to their rheological and rheo-optical properties in simple non-turbulent flows. The work was influenced by the notion that aggregation of polymer molecules could be an important role. A remarkable finding is that molecular weight and molecular weight distribution need not change as the drag-reducing ability of the polymer solution degraded. Rheo-optical studies in a Couette device showed that effective polymer solutions develop turbidity over a range of shear rates characteristic of those used in the flow loop. This study shows that the drag reduction can be enhanced by using mixing and delivery procedures which enhance the formation aggregates.
