Book Chelation Therapy in the Treatment of Metal Intoxication

Download or read book Chelation Therapy in the Treatment of Metal Intoxication written by Jan Aaseth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chelation Therapy in the Treatment of Metal Intoxication presents a practical guide to the use of chelation therapy, from its basic chemistry, to available chelating antidotes, and the application of chelating agents. Several metals have long been known to be toxic to humans, and continue to pose great difficulty to treat. These challenges pose particular problems in industrial settings, with lead smelting known to be associated with hemopoietic alterations and paralyses, and the inhalation of mercury vapor in mercury mining being extremely detrimental to the central nervous system. Clinical experience has demonstrated that acute and chronic human intoxications with a range of metals can be treated efficiently by administration of chelating agents. Chelation Therapy in the Treatment of Metal Intoxication describes the chemical and biological principles of chelation in the treatment of these toxic metal compounds, including new chelators such as meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) and D,L-2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (DMPS). Presents all the current findings on the potential for chelation as a therapy for metal intoxication Presents practical guidelines for selecting the most appropriate chelating agent Includes coverage on radionuclide exposure and metal storage diseases Describes the chemical and biological principles of chelation in the treatment of toxic metal compounds

Book Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas

Download or read book Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas written by Chang-Sik Ha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental properties, preparation routes and applications of a novel class of organic–inorganic nanocomposites known as periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs). Mesoporous silicas are amorphous inorganic materials which have silicon and oxygen atoms in their framework with pore size ranging from 2 to 50 nm. They can be synthesized from surfactants as templates for the polycondensation of various silicon sources such as tetraalkoxysilane. In general, mesoporous silica materials possess high surface areas, tunable pore diameters, high pore volumes and well uniformly organized porosity. The stable chemical property and the variable ability for chemical modification makes them ideal for many applications such as drug carrier, sensor, separation, catalyst, and adsorbent. Among such mesoporous silicas, in 1999, three groups in Canada, Germany, and Japan independently developed a novel class of organic–inorganic nanocomposites known as periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs). The organic functional groups in the frameworks of these solids allow tuning of their surface properties and modification of the bulk properties of the material. The book discusses the properties of PMOs, their preparation, different functionalities and morphology, before going on to applications in fields such as catalysis, drug delivery, sensing, optics, electronic devices, environmental applications (gas sensing and gas adsorption), biomolecule adsorption and chromatography. The book provides fundamental understanding of PMOs and their advanced applications for general materials chemists and is an excellent guide to these promising novel materials for graduate students majoring in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer science and materials science and engineering.

Book The Anomeric Effect

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eusebio Juaristi
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 1994-10-12
  • ISBN : 9780849389412
  • Pages : 248 pages

Download or read book The Anomeric Effect written by Eusebio Juaristi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-10-12 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the structural, conformational, and chemical manifestations of the anomeric effect. In order to present a cogent discussion of this most fundamental and relevant phenomenon, three chapters examine our present understanding of the origin of this conformational effect, based upon a wealth of theoretical and physical data. Equally important, however, are three additional chapters that deal with the general consequences of the stereoelectronic interactions that are associated with the basis of the anomeric effect. The remainder of the book is devoted to new areas of development in the topic-such as differentiation of the endo and exo anomeric interactions, specific analysis of the enthalpic component of anomeric effects, critical evaluation of the kinetics and reverse anomeric effects, discovery of a new substantial effect in second- and lower-row anomeric segments, and others.
