Homolle l'a fouillee sur toute sa superficie, et cependant c'est une chose remarquable, dit - il, dans une exploration aussi etendue, que le tres petit nombre de pieces architecturales caracteristiques qui ont ete decouvertes, et l'absence totale de sculptures decoratives peut etre consideree comme absolument decourageante pour l'avenir. On n'a recueilli ni une metope, ni un fragment de frise ni le petit doigt d'une figure ayant appartenu aux frontons. Cependant l'exploration n'a pas ete completement sterile; si des tambours de colonnes tres nombreux et quelques chapiteaux ne suffisent pas a restituer l'elevation du temple; si de la deco ration sculpturale il ne reste que des mufles de lions ayant servi de gargouilles pas un d'ailleurs n'est complet du moins le plan se lit-il maintenant avec assez d'evidence, malgre la destruction presque totale du dallage. C'etait, eleve sur trois hauts degres, un periptere ayant six colonnes de front, suivant le canon du v1 siecle; il est malheureusement bien difficile encore de calculer le nombre des colonnes laterales. Comment l'interieur etait - il divise? M. Homolle nous dit qu'il ne parait pas avoir enferme de colonnade; il presente une disposition appropriee a son role de temple oracle, conforme aux descrip tions des anciens, et analogue a celle du temple d'apollon Didy meen. Le dallage est coupe vers le milieu du monument par une depression large et profonde, dont la longueur n'est pas encore determinee en toute son etendue. Ce n'est pas un eboulement, car les pierres des parois sont parementees, et il ne parait guere douteux que l'adyton ne doive precisement se trouver en ce point. On sera fixe quand il sera possible de degager complete ment cette cavite de tous les materiaux qui y sont tombes ou ont ete jetes pele - mele. N Tout le temple etait edifie sur une serie de murs de soutenement se recoupant les uns les autres et formant des chambres profondes dont l'existence etait deja connue, mais que l'on prenait a tort pour des souterrains ayant quelque rapport au culte ou a l'oracle.
