Book Nonlinear Multiobjective Optimization

Download or read book Nonlinear Multiobjective Optimization written by Kaisa Miettinen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problems with multiple objectives and criteria are generally known as multiple criteria optimization or multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. So far, these types of problems have typically been modelled and solved by means of linear programming. However, many real-life phenomena are of a nonlinear nature, which is why we need tools for nonlinear programming capable of handling several conflicting or incommensurable objectives. In this case, methods of traditional single objective optimization and linear programming are not enough; we need new ways of thinking, new concepts, and new methods - nonlinear multiobjective optimization. Nonlinear Multiobjective Optimization provides an extensive, up-to-date, self-contained and consistent survey, review of the literature and of the state of the art on nonlinear (deterministic) multiobjective optimization, its methods, its theory and its background. The amount of literature on multiobjective optimization is immense. The treatment in this book is based on approximately 1500 publications in English printed mainly after the year 1980. Problems related to real-life applications often contain irregularities and nonsmoothnesses. The treatment of nondifferentiable multiobjective optimization in the literature is rather rare. For this reason, this book contains material about the possibilities, background, theory and methods of nondifferentiable multiobjective optimization as well. This book is intended for both researchers and students in the areas of (applied) mathematics, engineering, economics, operations research and management science; it is meant for both professionals and practitioners in many different fields of application. The intention has been to provide a consistent summary that may help in selecting an appropriate method for the problem to be solved. It is hoped the extensive bibliography will be of value to researchers.

Book The Management of Uncertainty Approaches Methods and Applications

Download or read book The Management of Uncertainty Approaches Methods and Applications written by Luc Wilkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thirty years, the literature on decision-making and planning has been divided into two camps : work premised on rational models of choice and work designed to discredit such models. The sustained critic of fully rational decision-making theories has al ready a long history and a constant message to deliver : in practice, consequential decision-making hardly fulfills the canons of perfect rationality. There is also evidence that decision-making and planning are not unitary processes. Although the concept of "decision-making" connotes the idea of a single process, making a single choice involves a complex of processing tasks : structuring the problem, finding alternatives worth considering, deciding what information is relevant, assessing various consequences, and a variety of others. The aim of this volume is to bring together and try to inter relate some of the concepts and relevant knowledge from various disciplines concerned with one important aspect of this complex process : the management of uncertainty. It is hardly necessary to reiterate the case made by numerous authors about our changing and increasingly uncertain world. Suffice it to say here that it is uncertainty about the future, and in many cases about the past and the present also, which makes decision-making and planning so difficul t. The management of uncertainty may be defined as the way in which uncertainty is treated and processed in decision-making.

Book Numerical Methods for Equations and its Applications

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Equations and its Applications written by Ioannis K. Argyros and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-06-05 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces advanced numerical-functional analysis to beginning computer science researchers. The reader is assumed to have had basic courses in numerical analysis, computer programming, computational linear algebra, and an introduction to real, complex, and functional analysis. Although the book is of a theoretical nature, each chapter contains several new theoretical results and important applications in engineering, in dynamic economics systems, in input-output system, in the solution of nonlinear and linear differential equations, and optimization problem.

Book Combinatorial Optimization and Applications

Download or read book Combinatorial Optimization and Applications written by Andreas Dress and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-25 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Running to almost 400 pages, and featuring more than 40 papers, this work on combinatorial optimization and applications will be seen as an important addition to the literature. It constitutes the refereed proceedings of the first International Conference on Combinatorial Optimization and Applications, COCOA 2007, held in Xi'an, China in August of that year. The 29 revised full papers presented together with 8 invited papers and 2 invited presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from 114 submissions and cover both theoretical issues and practical applications.

Book Approximation Theory Wavelets and Applications

Download or read book Approximation Theory Wavelets and Applications written by S.P. Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximation Theory, Wavelets and Applications draws together the latest developments in the subject, provides directions for future research, and paves the way for collaborative research. The main topics covered include constructive multivariate approximation, theory of splines, spline wavelets, polynomial and trigonometric wavelets, interpolation theory, polynomial and rational approximation. Among the scientific applications were de-noising using wavelets, including the de-noising of speech and images, and signal and digital image processing. In the area of the approximation of functions the main topics include multivariate interpolation, quasi-interpolation, polynomial approximation with weights, knot removal for scattered data, convergence theorems in Padé theory, Lyapunov theory in approximation, Neville elimination as applied to shape preserving presentation of curves, interpolating positive linear operators, interpolation from a convex subset of Hilbert space, and interpolation on the triangle and simplex. Wavelet theory is growing extremely rapidly and has applications which will interest readers in the physical, medical, engineering and social sciences.

Book Newton Methods

  • Author : Ioannis K. Argyros
  • Publisher : Nova Publishers
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 9781594540523
  • Pages : 422 pages

Download or read book Newton Methods written by Ioannis K. Argyros and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained treatment offers a contemporary and systematic development of the theory and application of Newton methods, which are undoubtedly the most effective tools for solving equations appearing in computational sciences. Its focal point resides in an exhaustive analysis of the convergence properties of several Newton variants used in connection to specific real life problems originated from astrophysics, engineering, mathematical economics and other applied areas. What distinguishes this book from others is the fact that the weak convergence conditions inaugurated here allow for a wider applicability of Newton methods; finer error bounds on the distances involved, and a more precise information on the location of the solution. These factors make this book ideal for researchers, practitioners and students.
