Book Revolutionary Churches in Revolutionary Seasons

Download or read book Revolutionary Churches in Revolutionary Seasons written by Dagmawi M. Wube and published by Dagmawi M. Wube. This book was released on 2018-01-20 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the downfall of the Derge and the establishment of the decree for religious freedom, there have been types of problems related to the size and type of groups that have greatly affected the Ethiopian evangelical church. The first category of problem is due to the attraction that many contemporary church leaders have for reaching multitudes and building mega-church ministries at the expense of small group ministries. Because of the priority on the large group environment, small group ministries have been neglected resulting in a whole generation of students and people who have never experience the vibrant spiritual benefits of a small group. As a result, believers are inclined to attend only Sunday Worship Services and the rest of the week live disconnected from vital relational community and involvement. Too many churches in Ethiopia today have chosen to focus on the quantity of the people rather than the quality of the disciple, resulting in the spiritual diseases of nominalism and carnality. Discipleship and biblical Koinonia are being ignored; therefore, many people are not experiencing the richness of biblical Christianity in many practical ways. This has resulted in the loss of Ethiopian Evangelicals’ identity as well as an influence on all aspects of Ethiopian culture including her institutions and government.

Book Religion and Revolution in France 1780 1804

Download or read book Religion and Revolution in France 1780 1804 written by Nigel Aston and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the French Revolution has been much discussed and studied, its impact on religious life in France is rather neglected. Yet, during this brief period, religion underwent great changes that affected everyone: clergy and laypeople, men and women, Catholics, Protestants, and Jews. The 'Reigns of Terror' of the Revolution drove the Church underground, permanently altering the relationship between Church and State. In this book, Nigel Aston offers a readable guide to these tumultuous events. While the structures and beliefs of the Catholic Church are central, it does not neglect minority groups like Protestants and Jews. Among other features, the book discusses the Constitutional Church, the end of state support for Catholicism, the 'Dechristianization' campaign and the Concordat of 1801-2. Key themes discussed include the capacity of all the Churches for survival and adaptation, the role of religion in determining political allegiances during the Revolution, and the turbulence of Church-State relations. In this masterly study, based on the latest evidence, Aston sheds new light on a dynamic period in European history and its impact on the next 200 years of religious life in France.

Book The Multi Site Church Revolution

Download or read book The Multi Site Church Revolution written by Geoff Surratt and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-08-30 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fueled by a desire to reach people for Christ, a revolution is underway. Churches are growing beyond the limitations of a single service in one building. Expanding the traditional model, they are embracing the concept of one church with more than one site: multiple congregations sharing a common vision, budget, leadership, and board. Drawing from the examples of churches nationwide, The Multi-Site Church Revolution shows what healthy multi-site churches look like and what motivates congregations to make the change. Discover how your church can: • cast a vision for change • ensure a successful DNA transfer (vision and core values) to its new site • develop new leaders • fund new sites • adapt to structure and staffing change • use technology to support your worship services you’ll identify the reasons churches succeed and how they overcome common snags. The Multi-Site Church Revolution offers guidance, insights, and specific action steps as well as appendixes with practical leadership resources and self-diagnostic tools. “I wholeheartedly recommend this book for any pastor or church leader who needs to know the pertinent issues, tested solutions, and real examples of multi-site strategies that are currently being deployed around the world.” —Ed Young, senior pastor, Fellowship Church “The authors have done their homework. They have firsthand knowledge of the successes and failures of this movement, having been networking with and facilitating dialogue among churches across the country for years.” —Max Lucado, senior minister, Oak Hills Church “Look no further than this book to propel your ministry to Ephesians 3:20 proportions: exceeding abundantly above all that you could ever ask or think!” —Randy and Paula White, senior pastors, Without Walls International Church This book is part of the Leadership Network Innovation Series.

Book Churches in South Carolina Burned During the American Revolution

Download or read book Churches in South Carolina Burned During the American Revolution written by Jim Neal and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Captain Wilkins: Ready to fire the town on your order, sir. Colonel Tavington: The town? Huh, burn the church. Captain Wilkins: There's no honor in this. Colonel Tavington: Didn't you say, all those who stand against England deserve to die a traitor's death? Burn the church, Cap This scene in the movie The Patriot raises several questions. Did the British burn churches during the American Revolution? Were churches burned with people locked inside? As you have probably guessed, the correct answers are "yes" and "no." Like many South Carolinians, Jim Neal saw this movie. Since retiring, he had done some part-time work, but always finds himself drawn back to his first love - South Carolina history. Neal knew of a couple of churches had been burned - Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, where his mother had been a member, and Sheldon in Beaufort County, where a roadside marker states it was burned by the British. He became intrigued with learning about the churches in South Carolina that were burned and quickly discovered that a list did not exist. With help from the South Caroliniana Library, S.C. Department of Archives and History and Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution, he began to research the churches. Bill Segars's career as a general contractor working from his home base in Kellytown, S.C., was rewarding, but he was drawn to the older churches that he would drive by as he traveled to his company's building sites. His passion for history and his knowledge of construction came together, thanks to Larry Nix, who introduced him to old churches through his book The Old Churches of South Carolina. This 46-page volume contained a brief description of 185 pre-Civil War churches that exist in South Carolina. With this book, a camera and a map in hand, Segars set out on a quest to find, photograph, and research these buildings. His file of churches exceeded 700 when he encountered a book on historical United Methodist churches and places in South Carolina...written by Jim Neal. A phone call by Segars and a couple of meetings resulted in a partnership. The book is subtitled A Pictorial Guide, but it could have justifiably been named A Pictorial Journey. You will find photographs of each site, directions, even GPS coordinates. In addition, the authors have included information on what happened at each site. You will find that history is not always as presented and that we are still learning about these churches. Join Neal and Segars on this adventure to Churches in South Carolina Burned During the American Revolution

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's word illumines the darkness of society. Groen van Prinsterer's Unbelief and Revolution is a foundational work addressing the inherent tension between religion and modernity. As a historian and politician, Groen was intimately familiar with the growing divide between secular culture and the church in his time. Rather than embrace this division, these lectures, originally published in 1847, argue for a renewed interaction between the two spheres. Groen's work served as an inspiration for many contemporary theologians, and as a mentor to Abraham Kuyper, he had a profound impact on Kuyper's famous public theology. Harry Van Dyke, the original translator, reintroduces this vital contribution to our understanding of the relationship between religion and society.

Anyone who has ever served on a sports team, a corporate team, or in the military, knows that teamwork requires discipline, focused effort, humility, honor, respect for authority and character development. It is no different in living life as a Christian. It’s time to become the army of God and the bride of Christ, not just the body of Christ. Make yourself ready Church. You are God’s answer and solution and wisdom to the world’s woes. It’s time to shine even brighter as the darkness increases. It’s not too late Church! Both the world and the Kingdom of God need and deserve your best. Jesus set the example, and modeled transformation for us. He purchased our freedom and redemption and victory and inheritance with His own blood, and His own life. He gave His best; we can do no less. The Church is God’s only plan for the earth; there is no Plan B. We have everything we need to get the job done, so it’s time to stop making excuses and feeling sorry for ourselves. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth volume in a series of books with daily messages by R. J. Rushdoony on the uncompromising faith. These daily messages on the faith for all of life are unlike any compilation of Christian "devotional" ever published. In these pages, you won't find the overly introspective musings of a Christian pietist; what you'll discover are the hard-hitting convictions of a man whose sole commitment was faithfulness to God's law-word and representing that binding Word to his readers. Although Dr. R. J. Rushdoony is most known for his scholarly works on theology, history, philosophy, economics, education, and statecraft, A Word in Season reveals the intense, but simple, approach to applying one's faith to every area of life and thought. This is all done in a format of bite-sized readings on the uncompromising faith. The multi-volume series is taken from over 430 articles written by Rushdoony over the span of 25 years (1966-1991) for the California Farmer, an agricultural periodical that provided him a regular column entitled "The Pastor's Pulpit." It has long been a desire of many to see these insightful and challenging articles published in a book format. We're happy to announce that the wait is over. Read and enjoy!
