Book Remote Medicine A Textbook For Trainee And Established Remote Healthcare Practitioners

Download or read book Remote Medicine A Textbook For Trainee And Established Remote Healthcare Practitioners written by John Nelson Norman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-07-13 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first major textbook on the emerging speciality of remote medicine. The modern concept emerged in the 1970s when the medical directors of the main oil companies operating in the North Sea — BP, Shell and Mobil — sought advice from the University sector since the morbidity and mortality levels of offshore workers had become unacceptable. A system of healthcare was jointly developed and applied by the industrial doctors and the academic doctors of Aberdeen University which worked well and greatly improved the healthcare of the offshore personnel. It was subsequently validated by duplication for the very different scientific population of the British Antarctic Survey where it worked even better. It was next introduced to the oilfields of the Middle East — Qatar (QGPC, Offshore and Onshore), Abu Dhabi (ADMA and ADCO) and Oman (PDO) where it worked equally well. The Aberdeen Universities next collaborated with the UAE University in Abu Dhabi to evaluate and develop telemedicine mainly in the area of education and research and they established early transcontinental courses and conferences together with joint supervision and production of higher degrees between collaborating universities in different parts of the world. The recently established International Remote Healthcare Association (IRHCA), backed by the University of Glasgow, the UAE University in Abu Dhabi and the Siberian State Medical University has established an ongoing study to determine the education and skills required to produce a competent Remote Healthcare Practitioner. The chapters in this book contain the knowledge base currently thought by the IRHCA to be necessary to produce a competent remote healthcare practitioners and thus to allow curricular development of the new courses necessary for the establishment of University qualifications and for the regulating authorities to design examinations and establish appropriate registration. Since this is a new speciality the continuing research of the IRHCA is necessary to act as an audit to ensure that the information in the book, and the courses derived from it remain relevant and also to detect omissions as they are recognised.

Book Evidence based Handbook Of Neonatology

Download or read book Evidence based Handbook Of Neonatology written by William Oh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide evidence-based information on the management of high-risk newborn infants. The book is not meant to be a comprehensive textbook of Neonatology. It is a handbook that will provide useful and practical information for the clinician who manages the sick newborn infants.Sick newborn infants represent a very high-risk population that carries high mortality and morbidity. Neonatal Intensive Care Units around the world have been built and staffed to take care of these sick newborns. Although many of the treatment modalities to improve their outcomes are based on solid data derived from basic science and clinical research, some are not and are simply based on anecdotal experience and clinicians' intuition and belief. This publication will elaborate and affirm the management strategies that are based on solid scientific evidence and discuss those that are not. The information will assist neonatologists and pediatricians in providing the best management options for various illnesses that affect this vulnerable population.

Book Medicine and Surgery E Book

Download or read book Medicine and Surgery E Book written by Eric KS Lim and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2007-07-27 with total page 1059 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a stunning new hybrid textbook that has evolved as a direct response to the increasing integration of the two disciplines of medicine and surgery in today's medical curricula. The advantage of this combined approach is it reduces the amount of reading by the elimination of repetition (and inconsistencies) to provide an integrated explanation of the common problems faced both by students during exams and clinicians in daily practice. This book's greatest asset is the ability to illustrate that medical and surgical treatment options are actually part of a continuum in the management of disease. An integrated textbook combining the two major clinical specialities of general medicine and general surgery. Written and edited by a team of physicians and surgeons supported by a team of specialist subject advisors. Puts medicine and surgery in the context of the continuum of disease management and outlines a comprehensive and structured approach to patient management. Adopts a current evidence-based approach with extensive use of national and international guidelines. A full colour textbook with innovative design features and illustrations.

Methods for designing optimal strategies of cancer surveillance are systematically presented for the first time in this book. It offers new approaches to the stochastic description of tumor latency, employs biologically-based models for making statistical inference from data on tumor recurrence and also discusses methods of statistical analysis of data resulting from discrete surveillance strategies. It also offers insight into the role of prognostic factors based on the interpretation of their effects in terms of parameters endowed with biological meaning, as well as methods for designing optimal schedules of cancer screening and surveillance. Last but not least, it discusses survival models allowing for cure rates and the choice of optimal treatment based on covariate information, and presents numerous examples of real data analysis.
