Download or read book Project and Policy Evaluation in Transport written by Liana Giorgi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: There is a multitude of assessment methods available for analyzing and reporting on the impacts of policies, all with different underlying assumptions and a wide range of criteria. Since the 1950s, much research has gone into creating guidelines for policy analysis, yet only a small percentage of evaluation has been carried out on transport policy - and none by political scientists or social policy specialists. The editors of this volume recognize that European integration has seen a drive to bring policy evaluation on to the transport agenda and has increased demands for ’strategic assessments’. It has become apparent that to gain a fuller understanding of the success of a transport programme, a much more complex combination of analytical methods must be used, and a set of guidelines specifically for the field of transport must be developed. This book achieves this by bringing together a multidisciplinary team of analysts from throughout the EU to discuss in a much broader way the various types of assessment methods and how they can best be used to evaluate transport programmes and systems, both individually and in combination.

Download or read book Transport Issues and Problems in Southeastern Europe written by Caralampo Focas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collapse of previous command economic structures in Eastern Europe has led to an often chaotic reorganization of transport operations. Southeastern Europe in particular not only lags behind the western EU countries in terms of transport infrastructure, but also in terms of management and policy. However, despite this, or perhaps even because there are no long-standing established patterns, this region is a fertile territory for innovation. Based on the first major international conference dealing with transport issues in Southeastern Europe, this edited volume brings together key researchers and policy makers to discuss and critically analyse these innovations. Focusing on issues related to privatization and harmonization of national legislation, the contributors also address the countries' struggle with inadequate management structures and the challenges posed in running shipping, ports and railways in a region fragmented into numerous nations and states. It not only provides an up-to-date overview of transport operations and planning in Southeastern Europe, but also provides more general insights into recent and current developments in a region that has undergone widespread upheavals in the past two decades, and is now experiencing renewed growth.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book deals with corporate reorganisation in the European transport and logistics sectors. Major structural shifts, such as the globalisation of markets or technological innovations, have given rise to tremendous reorganisation efforts. In addition to a general introduction to the issue of corporate reorganisation the book contains 12 in-depth company reorganisation profiles encompassing European freight forwarders, cargo railways and postal organisations. In its concluding remarks, the book compares the different reorganisation patterns and offers an outlook regarding the ""finalists"" in an industry that will see a process of further concentration over the next decade. Download or read book Railway Transportation in South Asia written by Saptarshi Mitra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses policy instruments for sustainable infrastructure developments. Railways are one of the most important developmental instruments of a region, province, or country. They play a crucial role in economic development, urban growth, urban mobility, regional susceptibility, market integration, and world trade. Railways are an integral part of regional and urban development, both in terms of freight and passenger transport. By offering case studies from various regions and cities in South Asia, this book examines the evolution of railway transportation and the impact of these infrastructure projects on regional and urban development. It examines the interactions between evolving infrastructures and competing demands and considers the negative and positive externalities of railway transportation for people, places, and locations. The contributions analyze issues such as network infrastructure planning and technological development, passenger mobility and satisfaction, vulnerability to environmental impacts, and cross-border trade.
Download or read book Formal Methods for Components and Objects written by Frank S. de Boer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All modern industries rely on large and complex software systems. In order to construct such large systems in a systematic manner, the focus of the development methodologies has switched in the last two decades from functional to structural issues. Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design. However, their application to the development of large systems requires a greater emphasis on specification, modeling, and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. This state-of-the-art survey presents the outcome of the 8th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in November 2009. The volume contains 17 revised contributions submitted after the symposium by speakers from each of the following European IST projects: the IST-FP6 project BIONETS on biologically inspired services evolution for the pervasive age; the IST-FP7 project COMPAS on compliance-driven models, languages, and architectures for services; the IST-FP6 project CREDO on modelling and analysis of evolutionary structures for distributed services; the IST-FP7 DEPLOY on industrial deployment of advanced system engineering methods for high productivity and dependability; the IST-FP7 project HATS on highly adaptable and trustworthy software using formal methods; the IST-FP7 project INESS on integrated European railway signalling system; the IST-FP7 project MOGENTES on model-based generation of tests for dependable embedded systems; the IST-FP6 project PROTEST on property based testing; and the IST-FP7 project QUASIMODO on quantitative system properties in model-driven-design of embedded systems.
Download or read book Operation and Maintenance of Large Infrastructure Projects written by J.S. Jensen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major Infrastructure links across water represent large investments. The structures and systems must be optimised to keep costs in control. Optimisation needs and the tendancy to more slender and light structures imply that engineering disciplines like Bridge Aerodynamics and Ship Collision Analysis have an increasing impact on the overall design of links. Also the attention to life cycle costs implies Operation and Maintenance must to investigated and planned in parallel to the design and construction of the links. The 1998 International Symposium aims at presenting state-of-the-art and future development within the three mentioned engineering disciplines. Exploring the many facets of major infrastructure projects, this symposium concentrated on developments within organisational, strategic and policy areas and both traffic and o & m management. Contributors to the papers include operators, consultants and international, experienced owners.
Download or read book Financing European Transport Infrastructure written by S. Farrell and published by Springer. This book was released on 1999-02-08 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financing European Transport Infrastructure examines organisational arrangements for planning and financing transport infrastructure in Western Europe. It covers all modes of transport - road, rail, sea, air, urban, and inland waterways - and asks why their financing arrangements are so different. It looks at the division of responsibilities between central and local government, and the growing role of autonomous public bodies, the European Commission and private finance. It examines the consequences of investment failing to keep up with demand - in congestion, environmental damage and slower growth - and the impact of new approaches, including public-private partnerships.
