Download or read book Revisiting the Warn Act Coverage Compliance and Enforcement written by Committee On Labor And Human Resources and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Revisiting the Warn Act; Coverage, Compliance and Enforcement: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Labor of the Committee on Labor and Human Resources, United States Senate, One Hundred Third Congress, First Session This left 235 layoffs that appeared to meet the warn criteria. The effect of the one-third rule is particularly visible in the case of large layoffs. Of the 115 layoffs in our analysis affecting 250 or more workers, for example, 47 were exempt from warn. Of these 47, 27 were exempt because they did not affect one-third of the work force. For example, a manufacturer laid off 475 of workers, but was not required to provide a warn notice because the 475 work ers did not represent one-third of the work force. Book Violent Criminal Acts and Actors Revisited

Download or read book Violent Criminal Acts and Actors Revisited written by Lonnie H. Athens and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than finding the causes of criminal behavior in external forces or personality disorders, as conventional wisdom often does, the author renews his fundamental argument that a violent situation comes into being when defined by an individual as a situation that calls for violence -- that an actor responds to the circumstance as he or she defines it. Based on the author's many firsthand interviews with offenders and on his personal experience, this book augments his call to reexamine the source and locus of violent criminal behavior.

Book Evidentiality Revisited

Download or read book Evidentiality Revisited written by Juana I. Marín Arrese and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidentiality Revisited focuses on semantic-pragmatic based frameworks for the study of evidentials and evidential strategies in European languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish). The book also presents discourse-pragmatic studies, with special emphasis on the use of evidential and epistemic expressions as resources for stancetaking in discourse. The volume addresses issues such as the relationship between the conceptual domains of evidentiality and epistemic modality, the role of evidential and epistemic resources in modelling stancetaking, the expression of speaker commitment to the validity status of the information, and the discourse-pragmatic variation of evidentiality and epistemic modality in discourse domains and genres. The volume offers a collection of contributions in which cross-linguistic studies and corpus-based studies contribute to provide further insights into a usage-based account of linguistic reality.

Book Diving Science Revisited

Download or read book Diving Science Revisited written by Michael B. Strauss and published by Best Publishing. This book was released on 2023-02-01 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diving Science...Revisited is like no other diving text, including its predecessor, Diving Science. Amplified with figures, tables, and photos in color, this book includes four unique and innovative parts amplified by nine contributors. - Medical problems of diving (MPD) are discussed from stimulus-response perspectives in the phase of a dive in which they are likely to occur. - MPD are explained by how they affect the human diver whether physical, physiological, psychological, and/or lack of awareness. - A variety of diving types and situations from breath-hold to rebreather, from children to women to older aged adults, from cold water to cave, and from deep altitude to diving with handicaps are described in individual chapters with their merits, hazards, and necessary precautions for safe diving. - Part IV contains a concise summary of the MPD from seven different perspectives ranging from the significance of the problem to when to return to diving. - Part V consists of a rhetorical question for each of the first four parts with bullet points that recap the subjects covered in each chapter. This book describes the positive as well as undesirable ways divers' interact with the aquatic environment. It is especially recommended for the following: -Diving instructors and supervisors - Those involved with clinical applications of hyperbaric oxygen therapy - Those engaged in diving-associated marine biology and underwater missions - All divers, whether novice or advanced, who want to advance their knowledge about the science and medical challenges of diving.

Book Reconsidering Law and Policy Debates

Download or read book Reconsidering Law and Policy Debates written by John G. Culhane and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-08 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book approaches a variety of social and political issues that have become highly polarized and resistant to compromise by examining them through a population-based public health perspective. The topics included are some of the most contentious: abortion and reproductive rights; end-of-life issues, including the right to die and the treatment of pain; the connection between racism and poor health outcomes for African-Americans; the right of same-sex couples to marry; the toll of gun violence and how to reduce it; domestic violence and how the criminal justice model fails to deal with it effectively; and how tort compensation and punitive damages can further public health goals. People at every point along the political spectrum will find the book enlightening and informative. Written by eight authors, all of whom have cross-disciplinary expertise, this book shifts the focus away from the point of view of rights, politics, or morality and examines the effect of laws and policies from the perspective of public health and welfare.

Termination, the program to dissolve tribal relationships with the federal government. . . . Philp brilliantly ties together the shifting stances of governmental and tribal officials."-Choice. "Termination Revisited is, without question, an important book. It will be required reading for any serious student of modern Indian history."-Nevada Historical Society Quarterly. "The best account we have to date of policy formation during the Truman administration. But there is more. Philp's narrative introduces actors who have not figured prominently in previous accounts of the period. . . . He also illuminates reservation life and politics in the 1940s and 1950s. Philp's book charts the course for many new studies come."-Western Historical Quarterly. "Philp's book is gracefully written, founded on nearly thirty years of research, and finely balanced in its assessments. This history makes sense out of much of the nonsense touching lives of several hundreds of thousands of American Indians in the twentieth century."-Oregon Historical Quarterly. Kenneth R. Philp is a professor of history at the University of Texas, Arlington. He is the author of John Collier's Crusade for Indian Reform, 1920–1954.
