Book Western Redcedar Site Index Models for the Interior of British Columbia

Download or read book Western Redcedar Site Index Models for the Interior of British Columbia written by Gordon Donald Nigh and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper develops models to predict top height, site index, and years to breast height for western redcedar, Thuja plicata, on interior British Columbia sites. Stem analysis & ecological data were collected from 46 plots in the interior cedar-hemlock and interior Douglas-fir biogeoclimatic zones. Four site trees were stem analyzed from each plot. These data were converted into top height-breast height age, growth intercept, years to breast height, and site index data. A site index, growth intercept, and years to breast height model were then fit to the data.

The silvics section describes morphological and reproduction characteristics, tolerance, damaging agents, growth development patterns, and genetics and summarizes several studies investigating redcedar stem form and root characteristics. The ecology section describes climatic amplitude of redcedar, its occurrence within biogeoclimatic units, edaphic amplitude, and associated tree species. Book British Columbia s Inland Rainforest

Download or read book British Columbia s Inland Rainforest written by Susan Stevenson and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast temperate rainforests of coastal British Columbia are world renowned, but much less is known about the other rainforest located 500 kilometres inland along the western slopes of the interior mountains. The unique integration of continentality and humidity in this region favours the development of lush rainforest communities that incorporate both coastal and boreal elements. In British Columbia's Inland Rainforest, scientists bring together, for the first time, a broad spectrum of information about this distinctive ecosystem. They also consider the ecological consequences of human activities in the rainforest and present strategies for its management and conservation.
