Book Review of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Air Quality Modeling in the Gulf of Mexico Region Study

Download or read book Review of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Air Quality Modeling in the Gulf of Mexico Region Study written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emissions associated with oil and gas exploration, development, and production on the Gulf waters can result in increased levels of air pollutants that contribute to a range of air quality impacts in the Gulf of Mexico Region (GOMR). "Criteria air pollutants", such as carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particulate matter, and sulfur dioxide, are considered harmful to public health and the environment. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) manages the U.S. outer continental shelf oil and gas resources and is required to help manage air quality in the GOMR. Review of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management "Air Quality Modeling in the Gulf of Mexico Region" Study reviews and provides feedback on the BOEM's Air Quality Modeling in the Gulf of Mexico Region Study. This independent technical review of the study explores whether the study meets its goals, accurately reflects the scientific literature, uses reasonable data and modeling analyses, approaches quantitative modeling appropriately, documents findings in a consistent, transparent, and credible way, and aligns with necessary guidelines.

Book A Critical Review of Four Types of Air Quality Models Pertinent to Mms Regulatory and Environmental Assessment Missions

Download or read book A Critical Review of Four Types of Air Quality Models Pertinent to Mms Regulatory and Environmental Assessment Missions written by Joseph C. Chang and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is a agency within the U.S. Department of Interior. BOEM has four sections that cover the United States' waters: Alaska OCS Region, Pacific OCS Region, Gulf of Mexico OCS Region and the Atlantic OCS Region. The Gulf of Mexico OCS Region is responsible for almost 160 million acres of lands off the coast of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Currently, more than 31 million acres are leased for gas and oil development, and six million are actually producing oil and natural gas. The Gulf of Mexico Region is in charge of addressing the Environment, Leasing and Plans, and Resource Evaluation. The publish a variety of documents with topics such as: Marine Biology, Natural Gas, Oil Spills, Transportation, Chemical Products, etc. This is one of those publications.

Department U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-02 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the combined analysis of photochemical modeling results and Classification and Regression Tree (CART) analysis results for selected areas along the Gulf Coast. The objective of this analysis was to use the Classification and Regression Tree (CART) results developed as part of the MMS-sponsored data synthesis study (Volume III of this report) to assess the frequency of occurrence of the conditions that lead to impacts of emissions from oil-and-gas-related sources located within the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) region on 8-hour ozone concentrations at onshore locations, based on photochemical modeling results using the 2005 Gulfwide emission inventory (Haney et al., 2008).

Book Understanding the Long Term Evolution of the Coupled Natural Human Coastal System

Download or read book Understanding the Long Term Evolution of the Coupled Natural Human Coastal System written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Gulf Coast provides a valuable setting to study deeply connected natural and human interactions and feedbacks that have led to a complex, interconnected coastal system. The physical landscape in the region has changed significantly due to broad-scale, long-term processes such as coastal subsidence and river sediment deposition as well as short-term episodic events such as hurricanes. Modifications from human activities, including building levees and canals and constructing buildings and roads, have left their own imprint on the natural landscape. This coupled natural-human coastal system and the individual aspects within it (physical, ecological, and human) are under increased pressure from accelerating environmental stressors such as sea level rise, intensifying hurricanes, and continued population increase with its accompanying coastal development. Promoting the resilience and maintaining the habitability of the Gulf Coast into the future will need improved understanding of the coupled natural-human coastal system, as well as effective sharing of this understanding in support of decision-making and policies. Understanding the Long-term Evolution of the Coupled Natural-Human Coastal System presents a research agenda meant to enable a better understanding of the multiple and interconnected factors that influence long-term processes along the Gulf Coast. This report identifies scientific and technical gaps in understanding the interactions and feedbacks between human and natural processes, defines essential components of a research and development program in response to the identified gaps, and develops priorities for critical areas of research.
