Food Policy and Nutrition Division and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1982 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Data are presented in 3 major food composition tables for the nutrient content of foods consumed in the Near East, including the amount of the various nutrients in 100 g of the edible portion of the food and the amount in the edible portion of 100 g of the food as purchased. The 3 major tables provide food composition data for: the proximate composition, mineral and vitamin content of the foods; the amino acid content; and the fatty acid content. The foods are organized under each of these tables into 14 food classes (e.g., cereals and grain products, sturdy roots and tubers, nuts and seeds, vegetables, fruits, meat and poultry, eggs, etc.). Five appendices (e.g., factors used to calculate food nutrient contents, common names of foods, scientific names of plants and fish) and 3 bibliographies (data sources for food composition tables, scientific nomenclature of plants and fish, descriptions of selected processed foods) are included. This book was released on 2006 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains monographs prepared at the 64th meeting of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food additives (JECFA), which met in Rome, Italy, from 8 to 17 February 2005. Six food contaminants or groups of contaminants were evaluated at the meeting (acrylamide, cadmium, ethyl carbamate, inorganic tin, polybrominated dipenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The monographs summarise data reviewed on these contaminants, including information on metabolism and toxicity, epidemiology, analytical methods for their measurement in food commodities, sampling protocols, effects of processing, levels and patterns of contamination of food commodities, food consumption, and prevention and control.

Download or read book The Double Burden of Malnutrition written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In several developing countries, undernourishment is still prevalent while obesity and its related co-morbidities, including chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, are emerging and contributing increasingly to morbidity and mortality. Several countries are now facing a double burden of malnutrition, i.e. caloric (energy) and micronutrient deficiencies and, at the same time, obesity and diet-related chronic diseases. This "nutrition transition" is associated with rapid economic development, urbanization and global changes, which lead to shifts towards a more energy dense diet, including more fat and sugar and more processed foods, and at the same time dramatic alterations in physical activity patterns and lifestyles. While infectious diseases and maternal and child undernutrition continue to take an enormous toll in lives and health worldwide, the rapid rise of NCDs represents one of the major health challenges to global development in the twenty-first century and threatens economic and social development of nations as well as the lives and health of millions globally. This publication explores the situation of the double burden of malnutrition in six geographically and culturally diverse case study countries and presents conclusions and recommendations from a follow-up workshop with the case study authors.
