Book Stakeholder Engagement in Nuclear Programmes

Download or read book Stakeholder Engagement in Nuclear Programmes written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2022-04-30 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engaging with stakeholders is an essential part of any complete nuclear programme. Involving stakeholders in decision making processes, even those stakeholder groups that do not have a direct role in making those decisions, can enhance public confidence in the application of nuclear science and technology and strengthen communication among the key organizations in a nuclear programme. This publication provides theoretical and practical guidance on the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement programmes and activities. The key principles of stakeholder engagement are identified in it. It also includes tools such as templates to help establish a stakeholder engagement programme and identify associated activities, including tools for stakeholder analysis. The guidance provided can be further developed and adjusted to each specific type of facility, moment in its life cycle, and/or the group of stakeholders with which to engage. The publication demonstrates the importance of stakeholder engagement throughout the life cycle of all nuclear facilities, including operating and new reactors, all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to spent fuel and radioactive waste management, decommissioning, and non-power applications.

Book The United States of America Fourth National Report for the Convention on Nuclear Safety

Download or read book The United States of America Fourth National Report for the Convention on Nuclear Safety written by U.s. Nuclear Regulation Comion and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission has updated NUREG-1650, Rev. 1, "The United States Third National Report for the Convention on Nuclear Safety," issued September 2004, and will submit this report for peer review at the fourth review meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety at the International Atomic Energy Agency in April 2008. This report addresses the safety of land-based commercial nuclear power plants in the U.S. It demonstrates how the U.S. Government achieves and maintains a high level of nuclear safety worldwide by enhancing national measures and international cooperation, and by meeting the obligations of all the articles established by the Convention. These articles address the safety of existing nuclear installations, the legislative and regulatory framework, the regulatory body, responsibility of the licensee, priority to safety, financial and human resources, human factors, quality assurance, assessment and verification of safety, radiation protection, emergency preparedness, siting, design and construction, and operation. New to this update is a contribution by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) describing work done by the U.S. nuclear industry to ensure safety. Since the prime responsibility for the safety of a nuclear installation rests with the license holder, it was decided to involve the nuclear industry collectively through INPO, in explaining how the nuclear industry maintains and improves nuclear safety.

The requirements provide a consistent and coherent basis for safety assessments, facilitating the transfer of good practices between organizations. A review of Safety Requirements publications was commenced in 2011 following the accident in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. The review revealed no significant areas of weakness and resulted in just a small set of amendments to strengthen the requirements and facilitate their implementation, which are contained in the present publication."--Publisher's description.

Book Use of Periodic Safety Review for Long Term Operation of Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Use of Periodic Safety Review for Long Term Operation of Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2023-10-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A periodic safety review is considered an effective way to obtain an overview of nuclear power plant safety. It is also used to determine reasonable and practicable modifications to maintain a high level of safety during continued operation, and to justify operation of a nuclear power plant beyond the original time frame. The review considers life limiting processes and features of structures, systems and components important to safety, and whether there are any foreseeable circumstances that could endanger the safe operation of the nuclear power plant. This publication addresses the scope of assessment, methods and applicable criteria within the periodic safety review and long term operation programmes framework, to support decision making for long term operation of nuclear power plants.
