Book Learning Tarot Reversals

Download or read book Learning Tarot Reversals written by Joan Bunning and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2003-11-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think of the last time you did a tarot reading or had one. How many of the cards were reversed? Close to half? Well, of course! So why do so many books treat reversed cards in what is basically a cursory manner? Joan Bunning to the rescue with Learning Tarot Reversals--finally reversed cards get the attention they deserve! Traditionally, reversed cards are read as the polar opposite of what the upright card represents. While this method of reading has its place, the effect of reversed cards, their number, groupings, and where they fall in a tarot spread can deepen any reading and bring subtle nuances into play. Bunning points out that a reversed card can also indicate a build-up to, lack of, or decline from the event or condition represented by that card. Linking cards together based on the presence of reversed cards thus gives a reading a natural flow of high points and low points without abrupt transitions. In a format usually reserved for upright cards, Bunning describes every reversed card in the deck--with a brief description of the upright meaning, and more detail about the reversed meaning. Following the format of her bestselling Learning the Tarot, Bunning, who is a masterful teacher, presents lessons that build on each other smoothly, allowing a student to progress to increasingly complex readings and understanding with ease. Bunning also includes a handy section of keywords for easy reference.

Book Ending Medical Reversal

Download or read book Ending Medical Reversal written by Vinayak K. Prasad and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2015-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medications such as Vioxx and procedures such as vertebroplasty for back pain are among the medical "advances" that turned out to be dangerous or useless. What Dr. Vinayak K. Prasad and Dr. Adam S. Cifu call medical reversal happens when doctors start using a medication, procedure, or diagnostic tool without a robust evidence base—and then stop using it when it is found not to help, or even to harm, patients. In Ending Medical Reversal, Drs. Prasad and Cifu narrate fascinating stories from every corner of medicine to explore why medical reversals occur, how they are harmful, and what can be done to avoid them. They explore the difference between medical innovations that improve care and those that only appear to be promising. They also outline a comprehensive plan to reform medical education, research funding and protocols, and the process for approving new drugs that will ensure that more of what gets done in doctors' offices and hospitals is truly effective. "Every doctor should read this book."—JAMA Internal Medicine "[A]n excellent and realistic discussion of some of the horror stories that occur in medical practice . . . Highly recommended."—Choice "Ending Medical Reversal goes far in teaching medical students and practicing physicians alike how to learn on our own."—The Lancet "This has to be on the reading list for medical and nursing students."—Nursing Times "Ending Medical Reversal presents persuasive evidence that many current standard-of-care treatments are probably ineffective or harmful, thoroughly explains how such treatments came to be accepted, and proposes a number of ways to address the general problem (only some of which involve avaricious companies and mercenary physicians) and minimize its impact on a specific patient."—Journal of Clinical Research Best Practices "Dr. Prasad and Dr. Cifu offer a five-step plan, including pointers for determining if a given treatment is really able to do what you want it to do, and advice on finding a like-minded doctor who won't object to a certain amount of back-seat driving."—The New York Times "When I describe Ending Medical Reversal as revolutionary, I don't use the term lightly. Go out and read it—right now."—Common Sense Family Doctor "Should be considered for undergraduate reading lists. Keep a copy in the pharmacy or your briefcase as a great icebreaker or discussion point with other local healthcare professionals."—The Pharmaceutical Journal

Book The Great Reversal

Download or read book The Great Reversal written by Thomas Philippon and published by Belknap Press. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Financial Times Book of the Year A ProMarket Book of the Year “Superbly argued and important...Donald Trump is in so many ways a product of the defective capitalism described in The Great Reversal. What the U.S. needs, instead, is another Teddy Roosevelt and his energetic trust-busting. Is that still imaginable? All believers in the virtues of competitive capitalism must hope so.” —Martin Wolf, Financial Times “In one industry after another...a few companies have grown so large that they have the power to keep prices high and wages low. It’s great for those corporations—and bad for almost everyone else.” —David Leonhardt, New York Times “Argues that the United States has much to gain by reforming how domestic markets work but also much to regain—a vitality that has been lost since the Reagan years...His analysis points to one way of making America great again: restoring our free-market competitiveness.” —Arthur Herman, Wall Street Journal Why are cell-phone plans so much more expensive in the United States than in Europe? It seems a simple question, but the search for an answer took one of the world’s leading economists on an unexpected journey through some of the most hotly debated issues in his field. He reached a surprising conclusion: American markets, once a model for the world, are giving up on healthy competition. In the age of Silicon Valley start-ups and millennial millionaires, he hardly expected this. But the data from his cutting-edge research proved undeniable. In this compelling tale of economic detective work, we follow Thomas Philippon as he works out the facts and consequences of industry concentration, shows how lobbying and campaign contributions have defanged antitrust regulators, and considers what all this means. Philippon argues that many key problems of the American economy are due not to the flaws of capitalism or globalization but to the concentration of corporate power. By lobbying against competition, the biggest firms drive profits higher while depressing wages and limiting opportunities for investment, innovation, and growth. For the sake of ordinary Americans, he concludes, government needs to get back to what it once did best: keeping the playing field level for competition. It’s time to make American markets great—and free—again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered, "If God is real, then why doesn't He make it more obvious? If He really wants us to believe in Him, then why doesn't He make it easier for us to see him?" It's easy to read the Bible and think, "If only God would show up for us today the way He showed up for His people back then." If you have ever felt this way, welcome to the book of Esther. "The God of Great Reversals" was written to shed light on the Gospel story woven throughout the only book of the Bible that never mentions God's name. In it you will find that even in the darkest days, God never stops working to keep His promises and to rescue His people. Ultimately, the reversals in the book of Esther point us forward to the greatest reversal of all when God used the death of His only Son to bring about the salvation of all his people. It is only this great reversal that is able to bring us hope even when we don't understand where God is or what He is doing.

Download or read book Which Way written by Lidia Stanton and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-07 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For page samples, follow the link: https://books.lidiastanton.com/whichway This colourful and highly engaging resource is written for children as young as 4-5 years old but also those in Key Stage 2 of primary school (up to 9 years old) who continue to feel confused by letter and digit shapes. The latter group might become so discouraged that they avoid writing, or write very little, despite having great imaginations. They start doubting their ability to simply 'know' the correct way when writing b/d, p/q, p/g, 9/g, 6/9, s/z, 5/S, S/3, etc. Most teachers and parents are very good at playing down the reversals and encouraging the child to have another go. They say, "It's fine, it's still good writing. I love what you've written here." Yet, after so many attempts and after so many teacher corrections on the page, the child begins to think, "This writing game might not be for me after all". Those with dyslexia will have additional phonological difficulties to manage alongside poor memory for graphic shapes. This workbook is for children who can trace well at speed, thus appear to have developed adequate motor memory in their fingers, yet struggle to remember 'which way' to write the letter or digit. It is very likely that they will be ready to integrate this type of linear visual-spatial information at a later time. For now, they have no real-life representation, or model, of a handful of graphic shapes in their brains, and this, in turn, can affect their confidence in writing independently. This resource offers practical and long-term 'tricks' that will trigger the child's memory at the right moment. It adopts a complementary approach to traditional letter formation teaching to bridge the gap between children who are proficient graphic writers and those whose brains make different sense of graphic information. Many children with dyslexia and dysgraphia will particularly benefit from completing the workbook. How to use the resource The child doesn't need to work through the entire book. Choose sections that are relevant to their needs. Younger children (aged 4-6) will almost certainly need assistance when working with the resource, although older ones will no doubt choose to work independently, showing their practised strategies and completed activities to teachers and parents. It is recommended that section 7 (Use your whole body) is attempted with the help of an older helper or adult. There are more than one method to help distinguish between b/d/p and s/z in this workbook. Introduce the child to only one method at a time, evaluate the child's progress, and decide whether there is a need to move on to the next one. Some children are more practical than visual - the 'Use your hands' strategy might be sufficient for them. Other children might enjoy more visual strategies in sections 4, 5 and 6. In my experience, section 7 (Use your whole body) works well with children who need to 'experience' concepts in a multi-sensory manner. Pay attention to the child's initial response to a particular method. It will guide you along. You can mix and match strategies. Some children don't confuse b/d as much but struggle with p/9. Some activities can be completed independently of the section the child is currently working through. For example, Activity 7 can be attempted after completing the 'Use your hands' section. Flick through the book to decide which activities appear to be suitable to the child's current progress.
