Book Fair Revenue Sharing Mechanisms for Strategic Passenger Airline Alliances

Download or read book Fair Revenue Sharing Mechanisms for Strategic Passenger Airline Alliances written by Demet Çetiner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major problem arising in airline alliances is to design allocation mechanisms determining how the revenue of a product should be shared among the airlines. The nucleolus is a concept of cooperative game theory that provides solutions for allocating the cost or benefit of a cooperation. This work provides fair revenue proportions for the airline alliances based on the nucleolus, which assumes a centralized decision making system. The proposed mechanism is used as a benchmark to evaluate the fairness of the revenue sharing mechanisms, where the alliance partners behave selfishly. Additionally, a new selfish revenue allocation rule is developed that improves the performance of the existing methods.

Book Liberalization in Aviation

Download or read book Liberalization in Aviation written by Hartmut Wolf and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few decades have witnessed substantial liberalization trends in various industries and countries. Starting with the deregulation of the US airline industry in 1978, regulatory restructuring took place in further network industries such as telecommunications, electricity or railways in various countries around the world. Although most of the liberalization movements were initially triggered by the worrying performances of the respective regulatory frameworks, increases in competition and corresponding improvements in allocative and productive efficiency were typically associated with the respective liberalization efforts. From an academic perspective, the transition from regulated industries to liberalized industries has attracted a substantial amount of research reflected in many books and research articles which can be distilled to three main questions: (1) What are the forces that have given rise to regulatory reform? (2) What is the structure of the regulatory change which has occurred to date and is likely to occur in the immediate future? (3) What have been the effects on industry efficiency, prices and profits of the reforms which have occurred to date? Liberalization in Aviation brings together renowned academics and practitioners from around the world to address all three questions and draw policy conclusions. The book is divided into five sections, in turn dealing with aspects of competition in various liberalized markets, the emergence and growth of low-cost carriers, horizontal mergers and alliances, infrastructures, and concluding with economic assessments of liberalization steps so far and proposed steps in the future.

Book Global Air Transport Management and Reshaping Business Models for the New Era

Download or read book Global Air Transport Management and Reshaping Business Models for the New Era written by Kankaew, Kannapat and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-05-27 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The air transport industry is highly vulnerable to environmental changes as was seen when the recent COVID-19 pandemic caused most airline operations to cease. However, for decades airlines have been collapsing around the globe as the business of managing airline operations has become stressed due to price competition. This is detrimental to air carriers since air transport products and services are the same. Moreover, it impacts other industries such as tourism, hotels, and restaurants, which contribute to the derailment of economic and social activities. Thus, it is essential to determine new practices and strategies that can allow air transport management to be enriched and to flourish. Global Air Transport Management and Reshaping Business Models for the New Era provides a comprehensive collection of knowledge on the new era of business management on air transport. It provides strategies, technologies, and tools used in the reshaping of the air transport business model. Covering topics such as customer experience, robotic process automation, and airline alliances, this major reference work is an essential resource for airline managers, supply chain specialists, air transport managers, students and faculty of higher education, libraries, researchers, economists, government officials, and academicians.

Book Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law written by Paul Stephen Dempsey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law is the first book to incorporate a comprehensive analysis of Public Aviation Law – principally international, but also domestic law in a comparative context – in a single volume. International Law is pervasive in Aviation Law, and is incorporated into a number of major multilateral treaties (e.g., the Chicago Convention of 1944, for Public International Air Law). This is supplemented by various Annexes (promulgated by the International Civil Aviation Organization) and Conventions and Protocols (promulgated by States in diplomatic conferences). States then implement these international obligations in domestic laws that create aviation regulatory administrations that, in turn, promulgate regulations. Bringing together leading scholars in the field, this prestigious reference work provides a comprehensive and comparative overview of Public Aviation Law. It surveys the state of the discipline including contemporary and emerging areas of law, regulation, and public policy in air transportation. Each chapter begins with an overview of the international law applicable to the subject matter, followed, where appropriate, by a comparative examination of domestic statutes, regulations, and jurisprudence. The objective of the book is to identify and summarize existing areas within the context of international research, and to identify and highlight emerging areas. Both practical and theoretical in scope, the Routledge Handbook of Public Aviation Law will be of great relevance to scholars, researchers, lawyers, and policy makers with an interest in aviation law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airline Choices for the Future: From Alliances to Mergers offers an up-to-date assessment of the industry as it stands today, delivering a comprehensive insight into how the world of airline alliances is changing, and how the merger phenomenon is likely to fit into the new scenario. The purpose of this book is twofold. Secondly, drawing on past and more recent developments in the industry, it examines the experiences airlines involved in cross-border mergers have gone through and the advantages and difficulties they have come across. Book The inclusion of aviation in the European Emission Trading Scheme Analyzing the scope of impact on the aviation industry

Download or read book The inclusion of aviation in the European Emission Trading Scheme Analyzing the scope of impact on the aviation industry written by Vincent Schade and published by Anchor Academic Publishing (aap_verlag). This book was released on 2014-02-01 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A significant volume of literature already exists concerning the inclusion of aviation in the EU-ETS. Most of the research laid its focus on specific industry levels such as the individual airline, the aviation industry in general or macroeconomic aspects. In this context, these studies tried to anticipate market reactions triggered by the EU-ETS by analyzing specific issues such as the financial impact on airlines, changes in competitive behavior or implications for the overall industry development. As a consequence, the existing studies took only a limited market view and made assumptions about expected developments in specific fields of the aviation industry. However, at the time of writing this thesis, conclusions about the scope of impact could hardly be drawn from existing impact assessments because of the wide range of issues that exceeded the scope of most impact studies. Hence, a broader research approach is needed which takes different analytical perspectives to describe the scope of impact of the EU-ETS and depict potential effects for the aviation industry.

Book Airline Microeconomics

Download or read book Airline Microeconomics written by Tony Webber and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-25 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents readers with a technical tool-kit to understand the economics of airlines. It starts by covering the key language and glossary of the air travel business, which is necessary for graduates or first-time employees in aviation to understand the content of conversations, meetings, presentations and internal aviation communications. It then breaks down the complexity of the demand side of the air travel business. The book then analyses revenue over two distinct time horizons, specifically the short and medium runs, recognising the fact that airlines operate to a fixed number of seats over a short horizon because of the way that they schedule services in advance of departure. By combining revenue and costs, the book then analyses airline profit, with a focus on the short run and medium run decision variables that maximise airline profit. The remainder of the book analyses various important topics in air transport economics, including competition in airline markets, key rules, regulations and taxes that affect the return on capital in aviation, the way that airlines form relationships, and the economics of the market for oil and jet fuel, among others.
