Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is probably the most read, but least understood book of the Bible. History is replete with examples of how not to interpret it, and books featuring end-of-world prophecy claims based on Revelation consistently top the bestseller lists. But how can the message of such an enigmatic book be applied to our lives today? In Discipleship on the Edge, Darrell W. Johnson drives home the challenging and practical message of Revelation in thirty carefully crafted sermons. Paying careful attention to the original context of Revelation and the circumstances surrounding its composition, Johnson shows that the book is not a "crystal ball" but rather a "discipleship manual." Thoroughly researched and yet accessible, this collection of sermons is a helpful resource for pastors and small group leaders who are looking for models to help them preach and teach the message of Revelation in a time when there is much confusion about the end times. Darrell W. Johnson serves as Scholar-in-Residence at The Way Church and Canadian Church Leaders Network in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A popular conference and retreat speaker, he has also served as the preaching pastor for a number of congregations in North America and the Philippines, as well as serving as Adjunct Professor of Preaching for the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a Teaching Fellow at Regent College. His other books include Experiencing the Trinity and Fifty-Seven Words That Change The World.

Download or read book Hidden and Revealed written by Dmytro Bintsarovskyi and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2021-07-14 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major contribution to ecumenical reflection on the doctrine of God. The past century has seen renewed interest in the doctrine of God. While theological traditions disagree, their shared commitment to Nicene orthodoxy provides a common language for thinking and speaking about God. This dialogue has deepened our understanding of this shared way of thinking about God, but little has been done across ecumenical lines to explore God's hiddenness in revelation. In Hidden and Revealed, Dmytro Bintsarovskyi explores the hiddenness and revelation of God in two separate theological streams—Reformed and Orthodox. Bintsarovskyi shows that an understanding of both traditions reflects a deep structure of shared language, history, and commitments, while nevertheless reflecting real differences. With Herman Bavinck and John Meyendorff as his guides, Bintsarovskyi advances ecumenical dialogue on a doctrine central to our knowledge of God.

Book Reading Revelation Responsibly

Download or read book Reading Revelation Responsibly written by Michael J. Gorman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with the varied forms of shame reflected in biblical, theological, psychological and anthropological sources. Although traditional theology and church practice concentrate on providing forgiveness for shameful behavior, recent scholarship has discovered the crucial relevance of social shame evoked by mental status, adversity, slavery, abuse, illness, grief and defeat. Anthropologists, sociologists, and psychologists have discovered that unresolved social shame is related to racial and social prejudice, to bullying, crime, genocide, narcissism, post-traumatic stress and other forms of toxic behavior. Eleven leaders in this research participated in a conference on The Shame Factor, sponsored by St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE in October 2010. Their essays explore the impact and the transformation of shame in a variety of arenas, comprising in this volume a unique and innovative resource for contemporary religion, therapy, ethics, and social analysis.

Book On Divine Revelation The Teaching of the Catholic Faith Vol One

Download or read book On Divine Revelation The Teaching of the Catholic Faith Vol One written by Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2022-05-27 with total page 953 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In On Divine Revelation—one of Garrigou-Lagrange’s most significant works, here available in English for the very first time—he offers a classic treatment of this foundational topic. It is an organized and thorough defense of both the rationality and supernaturality of divine revelation. He presents a careful yet stimulating account of the scientific character of theology, the nature of revelation itself, mystery, dogma, the grace of faith, the powers of human reason, false interpretations thereof (rationalism, naturalism, agnosticism, and pantheism), the motives of credibility, and much more. Though written a century ago, On Divine Revelation will restore confidence in theology as a distinct and unified science and return focus to the fundamental questions of the doctrine of revelation. It also serves as a salutary corrective to contemporary theology’s anthropocentrism and concern with what is relative in revelation and religious experience by reorienting our theological attention to what is most certain, central, and sure in our knowledge of divine revelation: the Triune God who has revealed his inner life and salvific will. Readers will see the great splendor of the gift of divine revelation: radiant with credibility before the gaze of reason and drawing our supernatural assent to the mysteries through the gift of faith. As Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. observes, “On Divine Revelation . . . is a stunning work of inestimable value. No other subsequent work on this topic has come close to meeting it (much less surpassing it).”

Book excerpt: REVELATION: THE BOOK of REVELATION: BEASTS, SERPENT, SEALS, BOWLS, VIALS and FALSE PROPHETS EPILOG to the BOOK of REVELATION DIVINE REVELATION: GOD SPEAKING to MAN OF PRINCIPLES OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE BE IT DONE ACCORDING to YOUR FAITH THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD CAN YOU FALL from GRACE? KINGDOM OF GOD or KINGDOM of HEAVEN LIFE AFTER DEATH INTRODUCTION to: FORGOTTEN BOOKS NOT IN the Bible STUDY of LEVITICUS 14: An Introduction to Old Testament Law REAL CHRISTIANITY IS SPIRITUAL: To Spiritualists and New Age Proponents GNOTICISM VS. CHRISTIANITY EXPLAINING the BOOK of LAMENTATIONS WHY READ the BIBLE?: IT IS GOD'S WORD RECORDED IN the DAYS of the KINGDOM THE MARK of the BEAST THE TRUE MEANING of CHURCH WHY SO MANY DENOMINATIONS? UNIVERSAL LAW: How God Thinks About the Law of the Earth The title of this book is Revelation. Revelation is variously defined as: "an uncovering, a bringing to light of that which had been previously wholly hidden or only obscurely seen. God has been pleased in various ways and at different times (Heb. 1:1) to make a supernatural revelation of himself and his purposes and plans, which, under the guidance of his Spirit, has been committed to writing (Easton's Dictionary). Although this book does contain an attempted interpretation of the Book of Revelation, anything God does or speaks is in and of itself revelation in that it is bringing to light something hidden. The Bible is unlike any other book written by man. The bible, although written by man, is the inspired writing of that man moved by the Spirit of God and so becomes not the word of man but the Word of God. Books written by men convey emotions, ideas, entertainment, concepts and other mental images. God's word brings revelation to the Spirit of man. Jesus said: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life" (John 6:33). The words are food for man's spirit, just as natural food nourishes the body. Revelation is highly valued in the Kingdom of God. "Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ [Messiah], the Son of the living God." And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 16:13-19). The Lord was overjoyed in that man had not talked Peter into anything regarding the Lord's identity but Peter had received revelation directly from the Father. This book, along with others I have written, attempt to convey the truth of the Lord through revelation obtained from Him. The following are some odds and ends I have gathered together helping you will gain a better understanding of Him from His words. Everything said here is confirmed by scriptures from God's word. I hope it opens an even clearer picture as to He is and His purpose in the earth. Heavens

Book Understanding the Book of Revelation The Mystery of the Book of Revelation is Finally Revealed

Download or read book Understanding the Book of Revelation The Mystery of the Book of Revelation is Finally Revealed written by Ph. D. Donald E. Mbosowo and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the truth revealed from the mystery hidden in the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation is about the missing information revealed to John because there was no record in the Bible about what happened to the perfect creation in Genesis 1:1. There was no record about Adam, created by the I AM, as the first God and his generations before this present world. The Bible has not recorded the lineage of Jesus from the I AM in order to present to the world who is Jesus. This is the truth that must be known. The Book of Revelation had been misunderstood because of the political interpretation of its images. In John 8:32, Jesus says, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" Here, the truth, refers to Jesus who has power to set humanity free from the bondage of the God of this world. Jesus declares in John 14: 6, that He is the "Truth". After the gospel had been preached for thousands of years, humanity is still in captivity of the God of this world. Many people keep asking why a good God can allow these types of suffering. This shows that Jesus the "Truth" is not yet known. Confessing Jesus as a Savior is different from knowing Him. This has been done for thousands of years and the world is getting worst. When Jesus, the "Truth" is known, He will set humanity free from this spiritual enslavement. The revealed truth from the mystery in the Book of Revelation, presented here, is a divine journey toward knowing Jesus, the "Truth". I encourage everyone to read this book.

Book excerpt: What we propose doing in this book, namely, to make a serious attempt to assist some of those who have inhaled the poisonous fumes of infidelity and been left in a state of mental indecision concerning sacred things. Our principal object will be to set forth some of the numerous indications that the Bible is something far superior to any human production, and give some of the rules which require to be heeded if the Scriptures are to be properly interpreted; and though their scope will go beyond the general title of ""Divine revelation,"" yet they will complement and complete the earlier ones.

Book The Jesus Mysteries

Download or read book The Jesus Mysteries written by Timothy Freke and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2001-12-18 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the cutting edge of modern scholarship, this astonishing book completely undermines the traditional history of Christianity that has been perpetuated for centuries by the Church and presents overwhelming evidence that the Jesus of the New Testament is a mythical figure. “Whether you conclude that this book is the most alarming heresy of the millennium or the mother of all revelations, The Jesus Mysteries deserves to be read.” —Fort Worth Star-Telegram Far from being eyewitness accounts, as is traditionally held, the Gospels are actually Jewish adaptations of ancient Pagan myths of the dying and resurrecting godman Osiris-Dionysus. The supernatural story of Jesus is not the history of a miraculous Messiah but a carefully crafted spiritual allegory designed to guide initiates on a journey of mystical discovery. A little more than a century ago, most people believed that the strange story of Adam and Eve was history; today it is understood to be a myth. Within a few decades, authors Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy argue, we will likewise be amazed that the fabulous story of God incarnate—who was born of a virgin, who turned water into wine, and who rose from the dead—could have been interpreted as anything but a profound parable.
