Book excerpt: A collection of twenty-one essays clustered around the theme of apocalyptic—revelations of hitherto undisclosed divine mysteries to human seers, either directly or through the mediation of an interpreting angel. Preliminary essays on the Book of Job, Messianism, and apocalyptic ethics are followed by five studies centred upon Jewish apocalypses composed around the turn of the era, two anonymous, three pseudonymous, and four essays on New Testament writers, two on Paul, one on Mark, and one on John. A reflection upon an early Islamic convert from Judaism, emphasizing the ‘Abrahamic-lexicon’ common to all three religions of the book, is succeeded by essays on two medieval Christian visionaries, Joachim of Fiore and Francis of Assisi. After a further essay on a little known Syriac apocalyptic text the volume concludes with studies of four different aspects of the Book of Revelation itself.

Book Wisdom s Root Revealed

Download or read book Wisdom s Root Revealed written by Greg Schmidt Goering and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph interprets the theme of election in the book of Sirach. Previous scholarship has often understood Ben Sira s worldview to be dualistic, and has approached the sage's correlation of Wisdom and Torah as either a nationalization of Wisdom or a universalization of Torah. By probing Ben Sira s ideas about election, this book suggests that Ben Sira does not collapse the traditional sapiential dichotomy wisdom/folly into a dualistic worldview, and that his understanding of the relation between Wisdom and Torah proves to be far more subtle than previous interpretations have allowed. The study demonstrates that the concept of election enables a profitable discussion of the relation of Wisdom and Torah in the thought of this pivotal Second Temple sage.

Book The Wisdom Codes

Download or read book The Wisdom Codes written by Gregg Braden and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cutting edge of neurolinguistics meets the spiritual wisdom of the ages in a handbook of key words that literally rewire our brains. New discoveries in biology and the neurosciences are revealing how the structure of language-the words we think and speak-can actually change the way the neurons in our brains and hearts connect. But our ancestors understood this connection intuitively, thousands of years ago. They created specific word-patterns to provide comfort, healing, strength, and inner power in difficult times, and they encoded these powerful words in prayers, chants, mantras, hymns, and sacred writings to preserve them for future generations. Now beloved teacher and thought leader Gregg Braden cracks the code and puts these powerful words in your hands. Perfect as a pocket guide, a reference for spiritual study, or a gift to someone you love, this elegant, compact book contains Wisdom Codes that cut to the core of life's greatest tests, most challenging demands, and hardest lessons. You'll find chapters devoted to healing from loss and grief, facing your unspoken fears, finding certainty in the face of uncertain choices, and finding forgiveness, as well as ancient parables that offer a "fast track" to unraveling life's deepest mysteries. Each Wisdom Code-distilled from a quote, a scripture passage, or a parable-is accompanied by a brief discussion of what the code means, why it's important, and how to apply it in your life.

Book excerpt: "Robert Thurman is a living treasure, one of today's most provocative spiritual thinkers." - Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence Robert Thurman, the preeminent scholar and interpreter of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy for the modern world, leads us on a joyful exploration into the nature of reality through Buddha's threefold curriculum of "super-education." "Buddha had to be an educator, rather than a prophet or religion founder, since he had achieved his goal of exact and complete understanding of reality by using reason, experiments to open his own mind, and vision to do so," Thurman writes. "From his own experience, he could help [others] as a teacher by streamlining the process. He could not just transplant his realization into their minds. They could not get their own realizations just by believing whatever he said. He could only provide them with a prospect of full realization along a path of learning and experiencing they could follow-they would have to travel on their own." This book is your invitation to travel that same road. Deeply felt and bracingly direct, it doesn't teach about the teaching-it is the teaching. Get ready to get real, and have fun along the way, as you chart a path to reliable, lasting happiness.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Wisdom and the Bible

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Wisdom and the Bible written by Will Kynes and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-25 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of leading scholars presents reflections on both wisdom as a general concept throughout history and cultures, as well as the contested nature of the category of Wisdom Literature. The first half of the collection explores wisdom more generally with essays on its relationship to skill, epistemology, virtue, theology, and order. Wisdom is examined in a number of different contexts, such as historically in the Hebrew Bible and its related cultures, in Egypt and Mesopotamia, as well as in Patristic and Rabbinic interpretation. Additionally, wisdom is examined in its continuing relevance in Islamic, Jewish, and Christian thought, as well as from feminist, environmental, and other contextual perspectives. The second half of the volume considers "Wisdom Literature" as a category. Scholars address its relation to the Solomonic Collection, its social setting, literary genres, chronological development, and theology. Wisdom Literature's relation to other biblical literature (law, history, prophecy, apocalyptic, and the broad question of "Wisdom influence") is then discussed before separate chapters on the texts commonly associated with the category. Contributors take a variety of approaches to the current debates surrounding the viability and value of Wisdom Literature as a category and its proper relationship to the concept of wisdom in the Hebrew Bible. Though the organization of the volume highlights the independence of wisdom as concept from "Wisdom Literature" as a category, seeking to counter the lack of attention given to this question in the traditional approach, the inclusion of both topics together in the same volume reflects their continued interconnection. As such, this handbook both represents the current state of Wisdom scholarship and sets the stage for future developments.

Book God s Ambiance

    Book Details:
  • Author : William John Meegan
  • Publisher : Outskirts Press
  • Release : 2016-10-03
  • ISBN : 1478780479
  • Pages : 347 pages

Download or read book God s Ambiance written by William John Meegan and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MATRIX OF WISDOM is all about God’s Ambiance residing in the soul of the individual. This volume is about unraveling the deep mysteries of God esoterically codified into the world’s sacred scriptures, literature, artworks, monuments and architecture in all times and climes via the ESOTERIC SCIENCE: i.e. the harmonious integration of the Seven Liberal Arts: Quadrivium (Four Mathematical Sciences) and the Trivium (Three Grammatical Arts) that are the foundations of the ancient Mystery Schools. The MATRIX OF WISDOM is a 10 x 10 matrix that is the original source material that wrote the sacred scriptures in all religious cultures around the world. From the mystical depths of this 10 x 10 matrix China created the I Ching and the Tao te Ching, Buddhism created their Stupas, Hinduism and Christianity builds their temples, cathedrals and churches, numerous cultures around the world built their pyramids based upon it schematics and the Native American Indians knew of it, Astrology and the Game of Chess were developed from it, and Pythagoras developed his mathematical theorems from it, and Freemasonry is founded upon it and the city of Washington DC is built on its esoteric design and this latter is provided for in the United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 8; however, this matrix is never-ever discussed explicitly to the general public. Throughout this volume there will be a continuous tsunami of demonstrable evidence directly and indirectly challenging the status quo of academia and the orthodoxy of all religions around the world. The WORD OF GOD will be discussed mainly from the perspective of the Judaeo Christian Scriptures, the secret teachings of the Roman Catholic Church’s literature, artwork, monuments and architecture and Freemasonry symbolism designed into the landscape of Washington DC. The MATRIX OF WISDOM (spiritual waters of creation: i.e. sum total or all knowledge) is inherent in the psyche of every human being. The MATRIX OF WISDOM is a commentary or the MONAD, which is the soul’s raison d’être: i.e. God/Man Christ (Tao, Krishna, Buddha, Horus. etc.). When the soul comes into the world it splits into a two-part psyche: ego-consciousness and the unconscious mind and this knowledge is esoterically codified into the mythoi of the Judaeo Christian Scriptures; thus, the sacred scriptures of the world are all about explaining to the worthy initiate the dynamics of the soul and its psyche. The sacred scriptures are written first and foremost for the Born Again initiate; though, the average member of the laity has direct access to both its exoteric writings (REVEALED) and its secret esoteric teachings (COVERED). The inexplicable WORD OF GOD (HIDDEN): however, cannot be explained to another in the vernacular. The initiate can know of the ESOTERIC SCIENCE; however that does not avail him or her of the true understanding of the WORD OF GOD. Only God can communicate that unfathomable and inexplicable knowledge to the individual The ESOTERIC SCIENCE can somewhat prepare the worthy initiate for the spiritual Initiatic Visionary Experience, which is gifted only to those that are worthy and truly DESIRE to know the WORD OF GOD. The sacred scriptures around the world are written to explain the spiritual Initiatic Visionary Experience; furthermore, the sacred scriptures in their indigenous languages are the most scientific instruments on the face of the Earth; though, modernity will most likely dispute that fact ad nauseam.

Book Wisdom and Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and in the Biblical Tradition

This book was released on 2003 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume contains the papers read at the 51st Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense (July 31 - August 2, 2002) dedicated to the study of the theme of Wisdom and Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls and in the biblical tradition in general. The "Main papers" and some of the "Offered papers" have been thematically grouped in four parts. Part I comprises four articles dealing with the relationship between wisdom and apocalypticism in the Scrolls compared to the biblical tradition. Part II includes five papers which focus on specific wisdom compositions from Qumran, such as 1Q/4QMysteries, 4QInstruction, 4QTime of Righteousness, or the "Tractate of the Two Spirits" from the Rule of the Community. The nine contributions of Part III analyse different aspects of biblical Wisdom compositions (in Qohelet, Sirach, and the Wisdom of Solomon) or of apocalyptic writings (in 1 Enoch and 4 Ezra) in the light of the Qumran Wisdom texts. Part IV groups six studies on several aspects of the Wisdom compositions from Qumran (messianic ideas, ecstatic worship, the beatitudes, or the fate of the righteous) which are directly relevant for the study of the New Testament. The articles are written in English (14), French (6), and German (4). Among the contributors are specialists of the Dead Sea Scrolls (Jean Duhaime, Torleif Elgvin, Armin Lange, Hermann Lichtenberger, Emile Puech, Eibert Tigchelaar) and of Early Judaism (e.g., John J. Collins, Daniel Harrington, Michael Knibb), as well as Old Testament scholars (e.g., Hainz-Josef Fabry, Maurice Gilbert, Klaus Koch).

Book Vision Narrative and Wisdom in the Aramaic Texts from Qumran

Download or read book Vision Narrative and Wisdom in the Aramaic Texts from Qumran written by Mette Bundvad and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Aramaic Dead Sea Scrolls from Qumran have attracted increasing interest in recent years. These texts predate the “sectarian” Dead Sea scrolls, and they are contemporary with the youngest parts of the Hebrew Bible. They offer a unique glimpse into the situation before the biblical canons were closed. Their highly creative Jewish authors reshaped and rewrote biblical traditions to cope with the concerns of their own time. The essays in this volume examine this fascinating ancient literature from a variety of different perspectives. The book grew out of an international symposium held at the University of Copenhagen in August 2017.
